I have to be honest and say that at first i was super excited about multiplayer online racing and enjoyed it a lot. But at some point i also got aware of the level of actual stress it causes me and then i sort of started to play less and play more single player races which i found relaxing.
I for one never quite enjoyed online PvP so to speak and i think i might just not be the type of perspn for multiplayer battles. I loved playing with others in PvE content (like World of Warcraft) but playing agains another human being is somehow too stressful for me. Sure i get my kicks out of it, but it takes some time to wear off afterwards and that i dont like.

The only course that seems to get me at the moment (lol) is Brands Hatch GP as I'll be at the front chillin' , sunday driving to keep my 3rd place always on track nailing every corner perfectly ...without fail I get 🤬 off by a train of cars driving like idiots not knowing where to overtake etc a little courtesy doesnt go amiss...another is the constant flashing lights when they don't have the pace ....seriously ha ha ha ...still waiting for that win (or everyone elses fail) I'm cherry picking the tracks I'm competitive on now that way I can always pull back to above 10th place without qualifying

Your profile pic suits your explenation pretty well

Got super stressed yesterday. Racing the 8 lap Nurb without pitting, running third in a sandwich between two others who just like me didn't pit. To add to our worn out tires, both of them had very bad connectivity. So avoiding the guy in front exactly because he was teleporting all over the track, the guy behind me was the same. Seeing him in the rear view mirrors flying off track, then teleporting like nothing happened got me really, really worried as he was closing in on us. In the end his lag doppelganger did torpedo me out of the track through the sands and into 9th, while he continued by just teleporting back in to the perfect line. Not his fault as I saw from the replay - he was following the line and braked correctly, but I got pushed and he didn't even get a penalty.

But the fewer the connectivity bars, the higher the stress.

I'm with you. Single player for me. I know how the AI will behave. And I have a lot of fun, which is what it's all about.

Never got stressed racing in 2D but just recently switched over to PC and VR and that will have you white knuckled. Specially in AC using SRS knowing that these people are more dedicated and serious from top to bottom on the whole grid.

Aww man. I can only imagine. I haven't had the most intense races in Driveclub VR yet so maybe I should play more but otherwise all I've experienced are Dirt Rally (rally mode so no opponents), and GT Sport (no opponents either).

Driving alone is so much better in VR I wish I could experience AC in VR. I'll try to get Trinus PS VR working on PC but I'm betting any money the head tracking is trash. Might not need a ton of head tracking though for racing. I hope.

It shows just how immersive these sims are getting.
Yes, there is often a palpable effect when competing against real drivers online. And unlike real racing, where the level of other competitors is more of a known quantity, what makes the racing online in games spicier - even with GT Sports rating system - is you more often than not don't know the calibre of those around you. You're thinking, "this guy on the grid behind me... is he any good or is it like having a loaded gun at my head?"
So we are racing trying to watch where we are going, and watch over our shoulder for a torpedo run from somebody that'll ruin our race, and if you're a considerate driver you're also trying to make a clean pass; not easy when a car can be lag bouncing around three feet one side to another, and you're never actually sure where it is.
There's a lot to consider. Managing all that can be a bit stressful.
And I think it's fair to say, the more you're trying to do it properly, the more stressful it is, because you don't want to ruin your own race, some one else's race, be seen as a noob or accused of being a dirty driver. Those that race with a totally careless attitude are probably less stressed.
So if you're feeling the pressure, hey, maybe it's because you're trying to be a good racer? Kudos to you then!

Happy Laps

Thats very well said and a good thought. Thanks for that :)

I bank on causing stress. If the guy in front of me is hard to pass, I will make fake dives. I try to get him to flake out and make a mistake.

Sometimes they get downright angry about it

Yes, but then you run the risk of them side swiping you when you pass

Like that doesn't happen anyway?

There's no penalty for it so it happens all the time. I get squeezed on almost every pass. I usually just pass anyway. I hear the grumbles of "you hit me" but, of course, I wouldn't have "hit them" if they were't blocking or turning down into me.

It's funny how I never manage to make the same kind of contact when someone is passing me. It's like there's...I dunnnnno...more room for their car or something.:dopey:

See, I look at it this way, if someone is faster than you, let them pass and try to follow them through the pack. When they come to the next guy, there's a chance you can follow the faster driver through. If you fight and block, you both go slower and you both run the risk of finishing worse than where you started.

It's so frustrating wasting seconds in a pointless fight.

Real life racing tactic. Use it too. Another fun one is getting along side someone before 130R causes them to get reeeaaaaally sketchy before the braking zone. I'm happy to go through 2 wide, but are they? haha.

I do that all the time! That makes people SOOOOOOOOO angry!! Lol.

It's annoying when you have to slow down for an accident, then someone catches up and thinks he's faster because of drafting and forces a pass, Then slows down and starts blocking in front of you holding you up.

If they come from way back and want to pass, sure go for it, yet if it's just a catch up from being held up by people in front, I'll block, or drive the next corner so far to the outside edge that they'll overshoot when trying to follow. Although usually they force a pass you can easily undercut in the same corner and come out faster.

I rather take the inside on a pass and stick to the inside. Chances are they'll hit me, yet less consequences for me on the inside when they dive for the apex that is not currently available. Plus plenty of room to survive a bump from behind. going side by side on the outside is always a gamble, especially with lag involved. Better brake and try to go underneath their line. 80% won't leave room at corner exit anyway.

Let us know how it goes if you do it, my PC is so old it doesn't even have hdmi ports.

I am a programmer but extremely new to pc components. After buying a nice gaming pc for myself my son was a bit jealous with his older rig I bought him two years ago that was on the lower end to begin with. Well after just one YouTube video I realized it's not very hard to upgrade the GPU, RAM, adding fans, hard drives, or even solid state drives to increase performance. Ended up upgrading my son's gpu from a cheap integrated 2GB Radeon R5 200 series. Didn't get him anything major but it took less than 5 minutes to swap a GPU which has the hdmi, dvi, vga, etc ports and another 20 minutes to download and install the drivers.

Now I'm contemplating updating his CPU from a dual core to a quad core i5. It's a lot easier than I imagined. Never too late for a PC.

I built my PC over 10 years ago, I would probably need to start again from scratch except for the case/maybe power supply.
