-> I've found this on Edmunds.com's Inside Line:

Well, here are the first of what are sure to be many spy photos of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Caught somewhere in California, this Evo prototype looks about like we expected. In other words, it's exactly like the Prototype X "concept" shown in Detroit earlier this year. So what's different? Well, it's clear this prototype has production headlights supplemented by a pair of foglights underneath. The wheel design hasn't changed, but their diameter is down to 18-inches from 20. Tires are 245/40 at each corner. Other than the production mirrors, the rest of this test mule's bodywork looks unchanged from the concept. And we consider that a good thing. Hmm, the headlights don't seem to be as pissed off looking as before. Too bad, I'd still take one in a heartbeat. Is this Evo finally coming to Canada?

...Its still better than the STi, no matter how Subaru does it. I'll take mine in electric blue with all of the fancy wheels and spoilers taken off, please.

Everyone, say goodbye to the 4G63! I hope the GEMA engine lives up to the standard set by it's predecessor.

I'd say the STi EJ25 we get here is a more flexible motor than the GEMA engine.

I'm glad to see this project coming along. I am seriously looking forward to the time when these hit the streets. Good luck beating this, Subaru!

Bravo, Mitsubishi, Bravo. Not since the Plymouth Prowler has such a daring concept been pulled so close to production, unless I'm forgetting something. Except maybe the Solstice, but that was more of a case of whether GM would do it at all rather than if they would do it similar to the prototype.
And yes, I ignored the Chevy SSR on purpose.

...Don't forget about the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger, R8, TT, Tiguan, Pacifica, etc...

Sometimes they do it right, but yes, not everyone...

The Mustang was changed considerably (and wasn't a new design anyways) from its concept car debut.
The Camaro isn't out yet. For all we know, they may end up selling them so they look like big Cavaliers. Again.
The Challenger probably will be changed considerably, particularly in the rear, before it launches. Also was not a new design.
The TT was a natural, conservative evolution from the previous car. No daring.
The Pacifica is almost generic in its design elements, as it looks like what happens when a generic suv meets a generic minivan. It still manages to look nice, but no daring.
The Tiguan isn't out yet. It also looks like a generic "Extreme Jacked Up Station Wagon," reminiscent of nearly every other cross-over on the market. No daring.
The R8 I would give you based on appearance, but the changes in the performance of the car from concept to production ruins its chances.

Not as good as the concept, but nothing ever is. This is damned close, though, and as a Subaru owner & fan, the Evo X looks the business. For some reason, blue doesn't quite work on post-VI Evo's, but red & graphite look great. Keeping the concept's headlights probably would have finished it, but it should look fine anyway. I still won't buy one, but I respect it nevertheless.

What I'm really interested in is Mitsubishi's supposed sequential transmission. Is it truly a DSG-type setup or just another Tiptronic falsey thing?
