SSD In A PS3

What would happen if hypothetically I put an SSD into my PS3. Would it work at all, and if it did, would it have any major impact on the experience (particularly in GT5's snail pace menus)?

Like what @VBR linked to. Installing an SSD for GT5 is definitely worth it. I did it recently to my PS3 and runs well
