I'm planning to build and/or buy what it takes for a great GT racing setup.
Any suggestions are welcome. The final setup will include frame and chasis elements.
Goal:
- dedicated setup (not shared with Home Theater)
- includes everything: frame, chasis, PS/3, A/V equip., cables, etc.
- budget is between $5000 - $10,000 --(go wild!)
Needs:
- Great comfort. I currently have a wheel/coffee table big screen TV arrangement. I want a dedicated setup for GT that I don't share with my living room or den at all!
- Great sound. It must have integrated sound (5.1) with optional headphones.
- Great display. Best possible (flat screen) display for the game. T.V not required --can be monitor only.
Wants:
- to keep it relatively compact, lightweight and modular.
- PC-Friendliness. I'd like to support both PS/3 gaming and PC gaming/computing within the same environment.
Frame:
From my general research on this forum, there are several manufacturers of seat/wheel/pedal frames to choose from. Since these cover the basic's, I will probably buy one of these to integrate into the final setup.
The $200-$400 dollar products are light years ahead of what I'm using now and I'll buy one imminently, --but I consider these to be 1/2 of the goal only.
Chasis:
It seems that there are also some suppliers of frame+ configurations that include speakers, wheels, etc. This get's me closer to where I want to be with a 'true' cockpit simulator feel. But I think, in the end I will need to customize the final configuration. I'm willing/able to DIY the cockpit chassis aspect of the setup.
Dream list:
Logitech Force feedback seats (need I say more?)
3D VR HMD interface?
(I'm looking for practical ideas, but I just had to throw in some dream-list items!)
Component List:
Here are the basics so far:
PS/3, Logitech GT Wheel, GT5P, GT4, etc.
??? frame, ??? seat
??? DVI display
??? Optical Digital input Surround Decoder/Amplifier
??? 5.1 speakers
