I don't think a lot of them will.

....I don't think Disney will allow that - if this movie makes a ton of money (which it will) then they would want to green light the sequel asap with largely the same cast. Or not...

Story-wise it'd be more dramatic to see almost everyone sacrifice themselves one way or the other, but this being a part of a massive Hollywood money printing machine, who knows what will happen?

Well, the Galaxy is huge so I suppose they can all go live in some lost planet in the outer rim of the outer rim's outer rim (to not interfere with "A New Hope")

The amount of people that has to be killed off (or go to some remote planet not even known or sensed by Yoda in Dagobah) just prior to the events of "A New Hope" is increasing.

As of now we have:
- Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus
- His Padawan Ezra Bridger
- Ex-Jedi Ashoka Tano
- Ex-Sith Maul
- A couple more Inquisitors (there aren't any in "New Hope")

And ... the wildest theories abound about a few more spectacular returns in Rebels Season 3. One of them concerns Barriss Offee surviving Order 66 (because she was in prison, death penalty had not been executed by Palpatine's pardon) and somehow escaping her captors in the turmoil of the Republic's demise.

If this comes true then she has to be killed too.

We already have a sequel, it came out in 1977. :p

They (Disney) have already said that the spin-off films will be stand alone 'anthology' films that are used as a way of explaining the origin of characters or plot lines of the main films. There won't be a 'Rogue Two' The next spin-off will be a Han Solo back story.

People are freaking out over rumors that Star Wars Rogue One might not have the trademark opening crawl text sequence.

Personally, I'm fine with it. Keep it as something only used for the mainline episodes, so that they have a little extra magic for the diehard fans. If you constantly use it everywhere for everything, it'll be less exciting.

Also I find them to be a bit cheesy and dated anyway, so leaving it out of the side films allows them to feel somewhat more modern compared to the mainline films. And believe it or not, some people actually do want Star Wars to grow and mature rather than just maintain the same "classic" feel of the original trilogy. We just want it done a lot better than, say, the prequel trilogy.

They are good for filling in a little back story though without having to spend precious time in the movie trying to explain it. It also sort of forces people to shut up and pay attention at the beginning of the movie by making them read.

Not having the opening crawl text would be odd when everything (movies, tv shows, video games, etc) have had it.

Pretty sure I heard somewhere that the TV shows did not have it.

Edit: Watched some Clone Wars last night and I can confirm, not there. Pretty sure Rebels is the same.

They sort of hide/amalgamate it with the far, far away text as a proverb at the beginning, then go into 'Previously!' Stuff.

That's their thing, so you can see why Kathleen Kennedy and co. are fretting about whether to separate 'Stories' from 'Skywalker Saga' or not.

That is more of what I was thinking with The Clone Wars. It may not be the whole scroll, but part of the opening is still there.

Since I have been watching them the last couple days, yeah. It starts with the opening logo which fades away like the usual scroll, then you get some inspirational quote, then there's a "get you up to speed on what happened last episode" video reel.

Speaking of Rebels, aren't we supposed to get a Season 3 trailer?
Probably at Star Wars Celebration in a couple weeks. They are going to show a couple episodes of Season 3 during the event, private to attendees. But I would expect a public trailer to debut there, along with a new trailer for Rogue One. (and maybe even an extremely brief teaser of Episode VIII)

Also, getting through Clone Wars right now and came across the younglings building their lightsabers episodes, and I really want a replica of Gungi's (Jedi Wookie) saber.

I finished watching the full 6 seasons of Clone Wars (blu ray) a couple of weeks ago, and looking for "cool stuff" in the extras of all seasons I found the other day a full unfinished "story arc" in Season 6 extras. It is in rough form graphically, but sounds and voice acting are finished. 4 episodes, yay! :D

PS - It's the "Utapau Arc", you all probably already knew about this but anyway I just thought a heads up was in order.

Clone Wars is on my list of shows--there are too many and not enough time--to watch soon. How did you like the series?

I liked it a LOT.

But I need to explain how did I get to it, in an almost uninterested way. I am no Star Wars geek, I never read any SW novel, canon or not canon (in fact I didn't even know these concepts before). So SW was, for me, a couple of trilogies. Six movies, all seen upon release (I'm an old git).

The original trilogy was an eye-opener in many regards, and those 3 movies stood (IMO) well the test of time. Of course lightsaber duels from the early movies seem almost slo-mo compared to what you get nowadays, but the intensity of the personal stories and the adventurous nature mad for fun films that had a story to tell. Best of both worlds (albeit in a galaxy far far away).

The second/prequel trilogy enhanced both the fun and the seriousness of the saga, but I think ultimately failed to deliver the same compelling quality of the first. Hard to say where the fault lies, maybe the casting wasn't stellar (the Anakin/Padme scenes were always a bit cringeworthy), maybe the "silly bits" went over the top (the "Jar Jar" effect), maybe the CGI and the "phisically impossible stunts" made the movies lose some authenticity and therefore hurt our immersion seeing them. I don't know ... something was lacking.

So comes The Clone Wars. And, despite it being cartoons, the entire Star Wars Universe (the one that I knew before) exploded with another 100+ hours of story and action. And also, the Clones themselves turned out to be a very rich source of complexity, depth and intellectual interest. Funny, with them being "just clones". :dopey:

I thoroughly recommend it.

I used to watch The Clone Wrs every Friday when a new episode aired. Think I fell out of it after or in the middle of the first Mual storyline. Might have been season 4, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll definitely have to go watch the end of the series, I hear they had some really good arcs towards the end.

I think most fans generally point to the way Lucas scripted them. On a certain level, they work as a sort of political thriller, with Palpatine manipulating a relatively benign dispute to seize power; there are parallels with the rise of the likes of Hitler and Mussolini, putting up the pretense of legitimacy before emerging as a tyrant. One of Natalie Portman's lines in Revenge of the Sith summarised it quite nicely; that democracy dies to the sounds of thunderous applause.

Having said that, it was pretty poorly executed. Large parts of the story hinged on an understanding of the intricacies of galactic politics and economics, which was very dense and the script didn't really have the finesse to pull it off. Likewise, the love story between Anakin and the queen was just horrible, and the films were padded out with unnecessary guff.

A little behind the scenes video from Rogue One with some new footage.

And despite what a lot of people on the internet currently think, this is NOT the new trailer we are getting. That should come around 8pm EST tonight. Here's a description for those that are interested in knowing what may be in it before the video is released:

The trailer opens up with a few shots of what looks to be a young Jyn Erso running as an Imperial ship soars above before cutting to Felicity Jones as voice over plays; “There isn’t much time. Every day, we grow weaker. While the day grows grimmer, we still have a chance … to make a real difference.” The music begins to ramp up as we catch glimpses of handcuffed rebels being walked through the streets and shots from the first trailer and from the Star Wars Celebration reel including Stormtroopers walking through Scarif, the Shoretroopers, a shot of Orson Krennic flanked by Death Troopers walking across a terrain that looks a lot like the grassy area we see the young Jyn running through at the beginning of the piece.

The trailer wraps with the reveal we’ve all been waiting for – kind of. In comes the sound of Darth Vader’s breathing and then we get a shot that slowly pans up to show, not Vader himself, but rather his reflection on the floor. That’s all we get, but it’s chilling and satisfying enough and clearly leaves so much more to be discovered about his involvement in the plot of the film.

Overall, this is another fantastic piece of promotional material. Regardless of rumors circulating regarding the tone, just like the first Rogue One trailer, this one definitely has an intense war movie feel to it. It’s packed with Stormtroopers, explosions and other visuals that tease a very visceral intensity, sky high stakes, and a scenario where no one feels safe.

1:03 ... :odd:

can't be Obi Wan, can it?

No, it can't ... :indiff:

but if it could :dopey:

it'd be awesome :p
No, but there is speculation going around that the guy to his left partially hidden by the camera could be Bail Organa.

Oh, and I saw a leaked recording of the trailer but the guy wasn't very efficient with the camera and you miss half of it by looking at the ceiling instead.

Yeah, couldn't be (Obi Wan), he did say in ANH that "Obi Wan" was a name he hadn't heard in a long time, and I doubt the rebel leadership would cal him "Ben" in any meeting :)

About that partially hidden character, looking at the stripes I'd go with Saw Guerrera, but the hands appear to be white so it probably isn't (never saw Bail Organa with stripes in his clothes before, but you never know ...)

Meanwhile, there's new footage out there from SW Rebels season 3, with a more adult looking (but still light side) Ezra. Nothing much, and also not a trailer.

Here's a pic of the "new" (older) Ezra (Hondo, Sabine and Zeb in the background):

We may hear something about Obi Wan in the not too distant future, but it won't be for Rogue One. If anyone is going to play him, it will be Ewan McGregor and since we know most of the main cast for Rogue One, I just don't see it happening. Plus, there are not supposed to be any Jedi in this movie. ;) (Vader doesn't count)

Several hours later edit: It appears we're not getting that trailer tonight... 👎
