I have a few episodes left to get through Clone Wars, then I have to get caught up on Rebels. Though I did watch the last couple episodes of Season 2 because of all the Vader hype.

I've only just started with Clone Wars, and I am watching all in the correct order following the link you posted last week, I might add. :D

I'll get around to watching some Rebels later in the year, perhaps. :boggled:
 
So, anyone here think we'll get an announcement on Sunday for one or more movies after Episode 9? Obi Wan perhaps? Right now we have:
  • Rogue One
  • Episode VIII
  • Han Solo
  • Episode IX
  • ????
That last one was to be a Boba Fett movie, which I believe was cancelled or postponed for a while.

And am I the only one that would like to see a movie based on Sidon Ithano's adventures?
 
Pretty hyped for Rebels season 3. I never fully watched Clone Wars, seen lots of episodes here and there but not fully knowing the storyline etc. So I ordered seasons 1-5 yesterday.;) I like seeing them bringing in the new tech in Rebels, like when they got the B-Wing. Judging from the trailer it looks like Wedge was a Tie pilot (that or he was undercover), should be pretty cool to see.:)

I remember reading a book series about Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan from when Obi-Wan became his apprentice. The only Star Wars book series I ever read.👍

If they do a new movie (some people want a trilogy, I think that's too much) it would be in the area between episodes 3 & 4 when he was supposed to be watching Luke, but who knows what other shenanigans he was up to. Has to be a story in there somewhere to fill up a movie.
 
Hmmm ... not sure, the period before IV is getting a bit "crowded" with Rebels, Rogue One and Han Solo. I know the galaxy is huge, but even then ... ;)

As we are living in this world (Earth) that feels a lot like we're living the last days of the old Republic, what I'm more curious about is what happens after a major change. And that would be the immediate aftermath of VI. Even if we all enjoyed the hippy party at Endor, force ghosts and all, as if the Empire was no more, the fact is that Star Wars has grown a bit and most of all the vastness of it is now apparent. So, no Empire crumbles immediately, even if the Emepror is dead, without pain, and a complete meltdown of any organized political entity does not happen without the remnants trying to hold on to the "now in peril" status quo that was serving them so well.

That would be Grand Admiral Thrawn's greatest era (in the EU, not sure what they'll do to him in the now -canon version). But whatever happened I don't know (this Snoke guy is not something I particularly like as new "baddie", but I'll reserve judgement, maybe ther'es a good story there).

I do feel the gap between VI and VII is the widest of all in the current state of affairs.
 
I finished up Rebels last night and thoroughly enjoyed the season finale. I am quite excited for season three. Until then though, I will continue plugging along with The Clone Wars. Since I was on a staycation last week, I was able to make quite a bit of progress into the series. As of yesterday, I am 33 episodes into the series. I am watching the series chronologically and really wish Netflix had a chronological option to watch.
 
Oh hell yes! I NEED to see this on release day! Loving the shot of Jyn wielding a DH-17 right as the TIE Fighter rises in front of her.
 
I can't get over the shots with the Death Star. In the first trailer, it was the lowering of the dish into place, now it's eclipsing the star of an unknown system. The lighting and effects look absolutly breathtaking!

Is it December yet?
 
Gareth Edwards is known for putting a good sense of scale into his movies (Godzilla being a good example) and the Star Destroyer above that city on the rock is classic Edwards. My favorite shot was the Death Star eclipsing the sun which was brilliant. I may be in the minority but I think they could have done a better job letting people know Vader was in it. A 3 second shot of the back of his head wasn't the best idea. They should have at least used the shot that was shown to Celebration attendees; slow pan up his reflection on the floor with his breathing.

I think something is going to happen to that Tie Fighter. I figure someone on her team is piloting it and is there to pick her up, but then I remembered in the behind the scenes feature that was released at Celebration you see her (stunt double) diving away from a blast on what appears to be the same catwalk. (@ 2:09 in the reel below)

I think a lot of people love it - it's loaded with symbolism, for one - but it does feel a little bit out of place in the trailer. A lot of the exteriors look really flat because there is no nuance in the lighting; there's no depth or shadow. I noticed it particularly in the scenes where the Rebels fight the Imperial walkers and when the blind guy beats everyone up. But then you get shots like the eclipse and most of the exteriors with ships in flight (I especially like the X-wings in the misty canyons) that are really well-balanced. It's odd because the battle scenes look like the work of the second unit and the flights the work of the DP, but it's usually the other way around.

Anyway, I'm genuinely curious to see where this goes. I think Williams is a really interesting director, and the concept of a stand-alone story within the Star Wars universe is intriguing.
 
Rest In Peace Kenny :( - small of stature, big of heart. Proud to have met him in 2014.
He was at London Film and Comic Con two weeks ago and clearly very poorly. But nothing was ever too much for Kenny. :bowdown:

The dialogue still isn't great. It's trailer dialogue; it only really tells us the plot.

Still, I am very curious to see how they handle this. As with any prequel (or is this a sidequel? Interquel?), the film is beholden to an ending that is a foregone conclusion. George Lucas managed to largely avoid it because A New Hope was set twenty years after Revenge of the Sith.

My guess is that it will go something like this:
The Rebellion sabotage the final build of the Death Star, retconning things so that the Death Star featured in A New Hope is actually the first working prototype of a Death Star, thus explaining why a moon-sized space station with such an obvious design flaw was put into commission.
 
What intrigues me over the whole plot of capturing Death Star plans, knowing as we do that they will succeed, is that the mission can't have been fully successful as at the start of A New Hope, Princess Leia is still struggling to actually deliver those plans to Mon Mothma and the Alliance leaders.

What happens to Jyn and her crew that stops them from doing this themselves? - Or was their mission only ever to deliver the plans to Leia/Bail/Alderan?
 
Turns out... what they thought were the real plans was actually a set of instructions for the Lego version. Quite impressive in their own right, but not ideally what the Rebel Alliance was after. All a bit embarrassing really.

In the aftermath of Revenge of the Sith, George Lucas joked that the Death Star took twenty years to complete because of union disputes. But it looks like Rogue One is running with this discrepancy:

One of the antagonists, Krennic, is an Imperial officer called in to oversee the project, which has faced constant setbacks and delays. According to the synopses released for the film, Krennic has staked his reputation on delivering it on time and under budget.

That's why I reckon there are going to be two Death Stars: an early working prototype and a final build. Jyn and the Rebels successfully sabotage the final version, forcing the Empire to recommission the prototype as the Death Star that was featured in A New Hope, because they don't have the time or the resources to start over and need to quash the Rebels straight away.
 
I can't see the point of a prototype Death Star. Something that takes up so many resources in the build process, takes so many people to build and to operate, that a prototype would just be wasteful. We don't make prototype aircraft carriers for the same reason. The nearest i imagine they'd get to a prototype would be the ANH Death Star at its skeletal early build stage with only the basic drive and weapons systems operational, well before most of its crew sections and lesser systems are fitted. It's 'sea trials' if you like.

Has there ever been any mention of the Imperials ever having a fleet of Death Stars? - i always imagined that just the one would be enough to suit their purpose, given that it's designed to destroy planets and planets aren't going anywhere. A single Death Star can sooner or later visit any planet and wipe it off the face of the galaxy and it's inhabitants can do nothing about it other than wait for their doom. A Death Star is built to intimidate people into falling into order. It only ever really needed to show what it was capable of doing just once or twice. It's like the atom bomb.
