I like Stargate SG-1. It's geeky and extremely funny all at the same time. And so, in its honour, here is the SG-1 Quiz Thread.

Usual rules apply - the person who gives the correct answer may pose the next question, but please wait until confirmation of that answer. If confirmation is not forthcoming inside 48 hours I'LL provide confirmation of the correct answer (*strokes DVD box sets lovingly*) and we'll continue on from there...

Question history:
1. Who is Jack O'Neill's often-mentioned ideal woman? (Famine)
Mary Steenburgen
2. How many symbols are on the Stargate? (TB)
39
3. How did SG-1 prevent the Earth from being hit by a colossal asteroid? (Famine)
Unable to deflect or destroy it in time, they briefly took it into hyperspace, so it passed through the Earth instead of hitting it.
4. What special abilities do The Nox have? (TB)
Make themselves and other things invisible, and heal others, even from death.
5. What four ancient races had/have an alliance together? (VashTheStampede)
The Asgard, the Ancients, the Nox and the Furlings.
6. What connects Sam Carter's destruction of a star, the Asgard's attempts to wipe out the replicators and the first gate address given by the SGC to the Aschen? (Famine)
Black holes.
7. Next line:
FRAISER: "You had us all very worried."
TEAL'C: "That was not my intention."
FRAISER: "The staff blast hit you directly in the symbiote pouch. If you weren't on Tretonin.."
TEAL'C: "I would be dead. Ironic."
FRAISER: "Well, you're not out of the woods yet." (TB)
Next line - Teal'c: Woods?
8. What game was younger Jack O'Neill clone playing on his Playstation? (Famine)
Gran Turismo 3 (driving a Mitsubishi Lancer EvoVII Prototype Rally Car!)
9. What is the name of the planet that is Jonas Quinn's homeworld? (VashTheStampede)
It was named Langara by the three warring parties in a peace accord - Kelowna is his country/continent on that planet, and originally the Kelownan name for the planet (and they have the Stargate).
10. How many different Goa'uld have been killed at the hands of SG-1? (Famine)

Leaderboard
1. Famine (4)
2. TB (3)
3. VashTheStampede (2)

And there is indeed a mention of McGyver at least once in the series - maybe a later question... :D

(if anyone actually answers this one)

I've been waiting over a year to say Mary Steenburgen?

TB
I've been waiting over a year to say Mary Steenburgen?

Yes!

*parties like it's 1999*

Your go (and I've been waiting over a year to say that)...

YAY! Revival of the thread! I must have missed the part you are talking about with Jack's ideal woman. Could you point me to the episode that that is in? I have all of the box sets, so it should not be too much of a problem to find it.

One for me! Probably my last.

How many symbols are on the Stargate?

I presume you mean total star system symbols on the wheel?

It's 39 - with one symbol being completely unique to each gate. And it's worth a very brief note that in Stargate: Atlantis, there's only 36 symbols...

Correct, correct and I did not know that.

Edit: I couldn't answer the question before. My boss was around. That said:

Nothing like a hyperspace field to save the planet.

"Carter, I can see my house!" Classic JO'N.

 Good bit that...

Your go!

That's one of them - but remember that Nox is one of the many, many episodes in which Daniel Jackson dies...

Correction. It's one of the few episodes where everyone dies. :D

You've got half of it, Vash. Keep going.

Alright, big time! Give me a bit to think of a question. Sorry I missed that it was up to me, I did not get the email to show a reply.

Okay! I have a question! (Sorry for the double post.)

What four ancient races had/have an alliance together?

Ooh cripes... I don't even know how to spell one of them...

The Asgard, The Ancients (later revealed to be called Alterans), The Nox and the Furlings (I think it's a U, but it could be an E) who, it's said, we will finally encounter in season 10 - if, as the writers say, we haven't already and just don't know about it.

You are correct! The Asgard, The Nox, The Ancients, and the Furlings are all part of the four ancient races that are/were in an ancient alliance.

From what I have read a Stargate website/forum, the Furlings have never been seen on the series (and I think that came from one of the producers and/or writers), though from what I have heard/read (cannot remember which one) the Furlings are supposed to make an appearance in the 200th episode of SG-1 tonight. I do not know if there is any truth to it, but I sure hope it is.

Also, I stole this from a poster on the same Stargate site, but I've always found it very funny. It is regarding what Furlings look like (really probably no truth to it, but it would be great ).

"Ewoks, exactly like Ewoks, only with big honking space guns.
There you go Furlings=Ewoks with added big honking space guns."

Oh crap. We don't get it until the autumn...

*fingers in ears*

Bleh bleh bleh I'm not listening!

One of the writers, when asked when we would get to see the Furlings, said "How do you know you haven't already?" - which, because we don't know what they look like, is a fair point.

I'm so sad that I know, without having to look anything up, that this came from the episode "Citizen Joe" (guest starring Dan Castellaneta...

My question I guess... Time for a trickier one...

What connects Sam Carter's destruction of a star, the Asgard's attempts to wipe out the replicators and the first gate address given by the SGC to the Aschen?

Black Hole, Black Hole and I can't remember for sure, but Black Hole seems to follow the pattern.

:D Yep...

Carter: I think we'll regret giving the Aschen those gate addresses.
O'Neill: Oooh, I don't think we will. What with the first one being a black hole and all. They get progressively darker after that.

That sounds familiar. I've only seen most episodes once and even then they were out of order. Stupid ABC. :guilty:

FRAISER: "You had us all very worried."
TEAL'C: "That was not my intention."
FRAISER: "The staff blast hit you directly in the symbiote pouch. If you weren't on Tretonin.."
TEAL'C: "I would be dead. Ironic."
FRAISER: "Well, you're not out of the woods yet."
Insert next line here.

Why did I not think of black hole? :banghead: A black hole is used a whole bunch throughout the series. :banghead: Oh well . . .

Oh irony!

This was on last night... :D

It's:

TEAL'C: Woods?

Of course it was on last night - you have the box set, remember?

You're up.

TB

You're up.

They've just started the Daniel-returns (aka Jonas-leaves) storyline on Sky One (repeated at 12 and 1am, and 4 and 5pm the next day on Sky Two) :D

With that in mind... I'd like to know what game younger Jack O'Neill clone was playing on his Playstation (that Carter set up for him)?

Classic dialogue follows:
HAMMOND: But he can't be more than fifteen years old. Are you saying Colonel O'Neill has, somehow, regressed more than 30 years overnight?
DANIEL: Stranger things have happened.
TEAL'C: Name but one.
DANIEL: Well, there was the time he got really old, the time he became a caveman, the time we all swapped bodies...
HAMMOND: Why don't we move on to the testing portion of this exercise?
