Thanks for info on Sonys ideas and yeah it is probably likely if Sony could control something like this two way feature they would do. Looking again at it they have indeed said it is unique. The question is will it be the new glasses which they say work on other brands of 3DTV also that are unique and not just the display.

Jack referred to more than 100 3D games, eh hold on what?
So has anyone a true list of announced upcoming games and also ones already available for PS3?

Coming from a position as a casual but "quality conscious" gamer. I want a great entertaining, immersive racing cockpit experience. 3D does seem to be a feature that will certainly enchance the entertainment value.

However even for PC sim fans going with 3x 3D projection is pretty hardcore.
I just dont have the time or patience for PC gaming, while it has many rewards and superior options/graphics I want simplistic hassle free gaming.

So can we discuss and hear from people that have experience with PS3 3D games. Its so hard to find a sensible informative discussion on this topic.

Sony is fooling gamers into thinking this is a new idea by slapping a PlayStation logo on it and adding a proprietary link to the PS3 so they can present it at E3. At CES they would have been laughed at. All they're doing is giving you a pair of glasses with two A polarized lenses and a pair with two B polarized lenses. In all honesty, they could just make this a system update for the PS3 and sell the glasses for their normal 3D TV line.

"Pain" looks awful in 3D.
"GT5" movies (like the intro) look phenomenal, and then the game world is sort of flat using default settings. It wasn't my TV so I didn't go messing with the parallax settings.
"NBA2K11" has the ticker waaaay in the front of the court and it looks neat, but then the players and crowd don't really stand out that great because of the perspective, a very mediocre application of 3D.
"Motorstorm Pacific Rift" was the best of the games I tried, it has water and mud that splashes on the screen and crazy jumps and terrain so it really makes strong use of the 3D. I haven't played the game much, but if I had a 3D TV myself it's the one I'd play in 3D the most.

Also, Xbox is getting support for 3D soon in the developer kit, that's a big commitment from Microsoft. I suspect that we'll start seeing more 3D games now that developers can do it for both consoles without writing their own code for it.

The microsoft 3d API update sounds like devs like FM4 will be getting it a bit too late. But maybe for a patch they will add it or something who knows. That would be cool. I keep bringing up FM4 but I suppose 3D would ofc be handy for other games :dopey:

I am glad you guys brought up the Sony 3dtv. That is the LED my friend and I decided we were going to get in Sept (did they commit to a release date for it?)

Ah I had no idea; I'll have to let my buddy know bout this :ill:

Like most brands Sony have used "Shutter Glasses" not passive.
The *New Glasses do seem to be the key but its likely they now have the option to operate with 2xA 2xB or effectively 2xL 2xR whatever way you want to label it. This of course enables the dual screen 2D mode on games that output the player 1 / 2 in the required way.

I believe with first generation 3DTV the glasses were incompatible and these new ones from Sony allow the Reversed/UpsideDown incompatibility between brands to be corrected. They stated these glasses will sell from $69 so that is where they can make the money and my theory on this is that it will work with older 3DTVs that the glasses are compatible with inc Sonys.

For me I do not believe at all, the new 24" display is the key factor here and by right Sony would have to operate within the 3D HDMI regulated standard. It certainly to me doesnt look like being a new generation of 3DTVs are needed to obtain this feature, just compatible glasses. So other brands of course could follow...

Info on the new display which is said to be VPA not TN panel based is available at 3D VISION BLOG

Okay back to the main interest as few will maybe be that interested in the 2 player option of using independant images in 2D over the real purpose of a 3DTV.

Eurogamer has some of the best technical discussions on the subject regarding consoles.
Is X360 3D Ready
Done prior to recent rumours.

GT5 Tech Analysis
Many will have seen this but still worth another read...

Mike or others have you had much experience of GT5 in 3D on the projectors?
How does it help cornering and has anyone able to say that 3D has improved their driving or indeed helped them to go faster or be more consistant?

Eh? How does one connect a PC to this monitor? Can I use DVI out? Apologies for being such a scrub and not knowing this.

My 560 ti card does have a single mini-HDMI out but I'd prefer not to rely on that. I'm assuming there must be DVI-to-HDMI cables?

I want to get a 3D HDTV that works with both PC & PS3/xbox. And darn 24 inches seem kind of small. I was hoping to step it up to 40 inch. I think my friend is gonna freakout if it's only 24 inches. He's even more picky than me. I doubt if he'll settle for a screen that small. However I think we both will want the dual 3d split screen feature.... But maybe we can both live w/o

Regards Sonys new monitor. It is not directly aimed at PC users but Im sure it will connect via DVI-HDMI no problems.

Using a 3DTV with PC will limit your 3D experience to 720p resolution because of the HDMI set standard.

I've just got a brand new top of the range 46" 3D Sony TV. I was really looking forward to GT5 in 3D. Anyone suggesting 3D is remotely acceptable in GT is partially sighted, using a tiny TV, lying or just plain mental. It could be so good and will be in GT7 on the PS4, but the current playstation just does not have the graphical horsepower. Jaggies so horrendous it made the game look like GT4. :(

That's a shame :( The framerate is all over the place in 2D never mind the third dimension; I was wondering if the poor ol' PS3 would be up to it... guess not.

Wow, really surprised at the 3D claims of half frame rate and such.

I thought that was given that it would actually look better not worse.

Shame.

This is no surprise they are rendering the scene multiple times to achieve the effect. I will primarily be gaming with PC sims though along with Killzone 3 and such in 3D. I've already read kz3 looked amazing multiple places so didn't bother putting up a poll for that one 👍

Okay, so someone tell me.
Taking the best game scenario regards framerate and 3D enabled, lets assume doing a "Time Trial" how good does the 3D enchance the experience over 2D and to the title of this thread does it improve the steering or driving experience?

Hey guys so I was pricing some 3d LEDs but I am confused which LED screens are compatible with the PS3. What feature should I look for so I can be certain the 3d LED will work with both ps3 and PC - NVIDIA 3d vision? Is it HDMI 1.4?

To be specific I was looking at around 22-24" 3d LED (but I'm willing to go higher ofc)

I'm using a single Acer 27" HN274H 3D monitor for both PC (Nvidia 3D, dual DVI) and PS3.

GT5 in 3D isn't too bad, as previously mentioned the graphics suffer vs. 2D.
My biggest issue is the reduction in light (brightness) caused by the shutter glasses. It may be my old eyes that contribute to this. The Acer came with a different set of glasses than the Nvidia kit, slightly brighter lenses help a bit.
You will want to turn up the brightness to max. on the monitor and in game to + 1.0ev. This helps some but is still a bit dark for me.

As far as improving lap times, I can't say it helped all that much. The depth perception does improve slightly, it's easier to judge the apex of turns, but again the reduction in light makes it harder to see. It's kind of a trade off for me. This will vary from person to person I'm sure depending on how good your eyes are.

On the PC side the graphics are much better, you will take a frame rate hit, but it's still excellent. Dirt 3 is awesome in 3D. iRacing works well also.

To summarize, 3D looks fantastic, but the shutter glasses are the drawback for me. I was hoping it would improve my iRacing experience (I need all the little advantages I can get) but honestly in my case it didn't.

Thanks for your impressions. How do you like that Acer monitor overall? It looks intriguing from a size and features standpoint.

I'm very satisfied with it. I had, well still have the Asus VG236H 23" monitor.
The Acer is better in several ways, apart from being larger it has a better picture, 2D & 3D. It also has the emitter for the glasses built in, so you don't have to worry about placing the remote emitter somewhere. The Acer is a LED LCD vs. TFT on the Asus. The only drawback is the price difference. It's about $300.00 more for the Acer. If you're going with a 3 screen setup your taking about $2000.00 just for the Acer screens. I may do the 3 screen setup in the future, but I'd also need a new SLI motherboard and additional video card. Not a cheap setup at all. But for now I'm happy with the Acer.

And the Acer is brighter as well, which is big plus for me.

How do you guys feel 60Hz refresh rate will impact 3D viewing? I saw that vizio E3D30VX 3d monitor (32 inch) selling for just $499 at Walmart. Only bad thing was the 60Hz. I really rather just get a 3dtv so I can play 3d bluerays from the ps3 along with killzone 3 / gt5, etc. I saw this 3dtv was on NVIDIA's 3dtv play list as well

Only killer is that it's 60hz. For the other 32 inch 3dtv's on NVIDIA's 3dtv list I'll have to pay twice that for 120 hz refresh rate. Funny thing is my PC LED is only 60 Hz refresh rate too and cant recall having any issues. I have a nice big plasma screen right besides it that refreshes at 600Hz and never noticed any funny business going back and forth between the screens. My friend though says its cause my PC monitor is small tho (only 22 inch) and that on a 32 inch screen I'll for sure notice

Anyway won't be making my final decision for another few weeks so no big hurry. I'm still hoping these 3D LED prices will drop a little more
