Does a steering wheel set really enhance the experience of driving in GT5? If so, what's the best set to get and how much do they generally cost? Kinda sickk of just using my controller. I have a 25" screen do im not sure if a steering wheel is worth it. Although the screen is 1080p LCD.

Opinions?

You will be way slower at first, because the force feedback takes a while to get used to, but once you do you will never be able to go back to a controller. The best budget wheel to go for now is a logitech driving force gt and about 80 to 100 british pounds, or you could go abit better with a logitech g27, at about 250-300 british pounds. I started with a driving force gt(dfgt) and went to the g27, which is alot better as its smoother, and you get a clutch and gear stick etc, take a look on logitechs website for more info, or see 'inside sim racing's' review of them.

If you only race on PS3 and only ever plan to race on PS3 and maybe PC then there is also a GT3RS CSR set offered by fanatec for about the same price.

Get the wheel. Just think through how you will mount it. Without a good stand you will be unlikely to bring it out to use, and revert back to the ds3. Also, you don't need a wheel to go fast as there are plenty of fast ds3 users.

...but wow does it change the game. I've played gt since gt1 about 11 years ago and never completed more than 50%. Since getting the wheel I'm at 95% and can't put the game down. I have actually started playing gt4 on the ps2 again because of the wheel.

I have always had issues with smooth turns using a control pad. Once I starting using a wheel there was no turning back. Everything is smoother and more fun.

I have the Driving Force GT, and I think its excellent, it has a shifter, paddles (or paddle buttons, but they are excellent too), 900 degrees rotation left and right, specifically designed for the game, and it fully utilizes the game too, so for those who say 'well it doesn't have a clutch or a gate shift' I say this game doesn't need it, and even if it did, you'd be hard pressed to find a 7-speed manual for the job, I'd imagine most would run out at 6, which leaves several super cars in an interesting spot.

I have a 23.5 inch 1080p monitor, and I raced for ages using a DS3, but this wheel makes it so much more fun. I would make sure that your desk has a lip to hold the wheel on though, I can show you pictures of my desk (I'm guessing you have a desk?), it has a fair bit of clearence, but you'll need that, and something to push the peddles against, I use my sub under my desk.

And I mean, where are you *chechs* Canada, oh yeah, I've been there, for you, how much will it cost *checks*... Bit hard to know without a post code, but the others never seemed worth it to me, anything over $200 for a 1-2 game peripheral seems ridiculous (no offence to any who bought that) this one will set you back anywhere between $80-180CAD, so go hunting for one from the 26th I'd say.

What's a DS3 :S

Sorry, not really familiar with racing hardware terminology. As for my set up, my TV is a Samsung 30 Series with a 24" wide LCD monitor that supports full 1080p. My TV is atop a dresser stand whilst my PS3 is on a seperate stand that is lower than the one the TV is on. There is nothing else other than that. I usually sit on a folding chair or my bed when I'm playing but I plan to get a couch or a beenie. Where could I put this wheel? I also have a desk with no objects underneath. It's an L shaped desk

The Logitech Driving Force GT is the best value. I'd start with that wheel. There are others available, but they are an investment. If you decide you like racing with a wheel you can always upgrade later.

You'll also need something solid to mount it to, otherwise the force feedback will rip the wheel out of your hands. A table works OK but a wheel stand will be more sturdy and give you a better feel for the force feedback.

As for whether it is worth it. The answer is an undeniable YES. It will change the game for you. Start a new account and play the game from the beginning. At first you won't be able to handle the really fast cars but if you run through the beginner events and license tests you will start dropping time off your laps and will become much more consistent.

I started with the DFGT and then bought a used G25 and have just recently got the new CSR and clubsport pedals.

Each one has been an amazing step forward and I would recommend a wheel for anyone serious about GT5.

I am in the Toronto area and am going to sell both of my old ones. Let me know if you are interested.

The DFGT is a great starter wheel and mine has only about 50 hours on it. I should add that I would be willing to let either go for $75.00.
