Overall I think I may return this stuff. I find it very difficult to use the wheel and be fast. Its not as easy as it looks on YouTube.

I think that the point of a wheel never was to be outright faster. You are still driving the same car and still have the same inputs (as in: throttle is throttle, break is break).

The big difference with a wheel and why I'd recommend for you to try and go through the driving lessons and circuit lessons is the consistency. In Sim Racing consistency is king. I can drive lap after lap of Monza on the wheel while making one mistake every couple of laps. With the controller and the small amount of travel which the joysticks give, I can't manage to be as consistent.

So: 10 laps driven 2 or 3 seconds slower than your maximum per lap is better than 10 laps where you spin out or fall out of track every lap.

I'm glad we're talking about wheels. I have a Logitech G29 that I'm using for GT7. And for the life of me, I cannot find the sweet spot for the best wheel settings to suit my comfort level. I started at 3/10, then went to 4/10. I even more radical and set to 7/5, won an online race at Interlagos with that setting. But since then, I cannot find the right setting. Anyone that has any advice or input, I'm all ears.

To tell the truth the larger wheel took the pain away not the feel. You have to do what is best for your driving ability trust yourself not any one else.

Did you notice a reduction in FFB by moving up to a larger wheel? I think I'm almost set on getting the RS but need just a small push. MFD buttons mapped to anything on the wheel or no?
No. I did not notice any FFB reduction. I also had the same concern as you but my thinking was, that if I felt a FFB reduction, I just adjust the feedback a little more stronger in the game settings to compensate. But I didn’t have to.

As for the MFD buttons. I mapped them to the right analog stick. You won’t have the individual analog stick for adjusting TC, Fuel Map, etc… like with the original wheel but you can put them on the right analog stick like I did and scroll for the setting you want to adjust. Also, the steering wheel doesn’t come with the buttons identified. But in the instructions manual, it tells you the buttons configuration. So I made the Playstation buttons stickers and put them on.

This is my kind of project! How did you get accurate personalized measurements for it? I’m a measure twice, cut once kind of guy, but my current rig so far is a “measure fifty times and still not find the right position” kind of setup.

Thanks man, it took me about a week or so of reading through race car specs and proper seating positions to get it to a comfy spot, but I’m glad I did. I can sit in it for hours now without getting sore or anything.

These ones in particular were quite helpful, as I went for a GT over F1 seating position.

What the . . . ?! That’s amazing! Looks like I’ve got a lot of research to do now!

Hand built from supplies at home depot and the like. Project started in 2000-2001 and has taken several evolutions since. Hood comes off to reveal all electronics, powered amplifiers, lights, butt kicker controls, etc. Sits on casters so it's easy to roll off to the side. It's been a labor of love and like the hot rod that may sit in your garage, it is never done.:)

Pic shows a TM wheel but rig now holds a Fanatev CSV 2.5 on a DriveHub with a V2 wheel. Updated the post with some more recent pics. I got some vinyl/cloth material from amazon that looks like carbon fiber and wrapped the floor and dash board. Pretty proud of that trick. And those are real sideview mirrors from Advance Auto wired to a dimable ac/dc converter. I can brighten them up or turn them down or off. Same with the leds. All colors of the spectrum, flashing/not flashing, whatever. You'd think they'd be distracting but their below your line of sight.

I keep track of improvements/modifications I plan on an app on my phone. I want to make some more cuts for ergonomics, brace it up a little for a DD1 Podium Wheel, freshen paint and some cosmetics. And for the grand finale a mounted curved screen on the car right behind the wheel. I think this will be close to ideal for fov. But this will require a dedicated space for the rig and I don't have the room currently. So kinda stuck in this current evolution and that's okay.

FF max tq is already at 5 and from memory the clipping at 6 was a bit too obvious so I'm not sure I could go any higher. But knowing that the change isn't noticeable I think I'll be putting RS down as the next wheel purchase. Thanks!
