I'm planning to go to best buy and pick up a wheel.

I was going to get a G27 but after I found out that you can't customize the buttons I'm NOW going with the DFGT.

I have some questions though.

--------------------------------------

1. My desk is 2 inches thick will the clamps be large enough???

2. Can you turn off force feedback to make it NOT sound like an RC car???

3. I know the dfgt is an older wheel but if I'm in cockpit view in GT5 is there any steering wheel lag with the wheel you see on the screen???

If you are willing to spring for the G27 you might want to get that one.

The DFGT is a great wheel though, you can turn off the force feedback in GT5 menus and you should be able to fit it on your desk, i would say it would open to about 2.25" if you remove the little clamp blocks to squeeze every bit of clearance out of it.

I haven't noticed any lag either. its a great wheel, i bought it because i couldn't justify triple the price

Or, if you can wait a bit longer, go to the Fanatec webshop and order one of those. Fully customisable buttons and settings ,and widely regarded as the best wheels on the market.

1. Yes.

2. I can only turn Force Feedback down to 1 not off. It still makes the same sound.

3. Lag? The game can't work out what you do with the wheel before you do it, but since I don't look for such things I don't know.

The DFGT is the official GT5 wheel. The G27 is better but lacks some of the controls. Your choice.

Force feedback is THE reason to get a wheel. It's the one thing you cant have with a controller. A wheel without feedback is just like an analog stick with a longer range of motion.

I just don't want it to be loud during nightime.

Is it true if you unplug the power supply the ffb will shut off??

Yes, but may not help with the sound, as the FFB engine still turns as you turn the wheel

I havent tried on GT5, but in a licence on GT4 (circuit de la sarthe, very fast wobble) I unplugged it and it worked fine, but the experience was rubbish, may as well have used a pad.

If you want a wheel, its only good with FFB, so grab the G27 or a Fanatec, otherwise stick with a DS3.

I don't think so. The other power comes from the USB, only the extra power for the FFB comes from mains. I might be wrong, though...

Correct. I've just tried it again and the wheel still works. The first time I tried this it didn't work.
