How about this "new" Ford Focus?

Personally, I think it's one of the ugliest cars sold today. Furthermore, the rear suicide doors are the automotive equivalent of a fanny pack, the RENESIS isn't exactly more reliable or more fuel efficient than a 13B and is excessively gutless (the RX-8 has about the same peak-torque-output-to-weight ratio as a naturally-aspirated FC RX-7, but 3000RPM higher), and although I'm sure the handling is sublime, the car itself is way too underpowered to be an RX-7 replacement (Top Gear and Car and Driver both found that the new base model FWD Audi TT is quicker around a track). The fact that many owners and aspiring would-be owners praise it as the best car on the planet is what cements it as a car I hate.

If Mazda had given it a 3-rotor with some midrange punch and called it the Cosmo, it would make a lot more sense, suicide doors and all. But as-is, the only way they could have made the car more disappointing is if they had kept the RX-7 name.

I don't want to derail this thread so I'll leave it at that.
If you think RX-8's are ugly, I can't help you there. Like I said, I think it's gorgeous, inside & out. Keep in mind, sports car experience isn't just about what's on paper. There are cars out there that might not impress you on the stat sheet, but you wouldn't trade it for any other car.

I wonder...Does anyone have the "Escort" faux picture?

No matter how much one dresses the car up, it still looks like leftovers. The problem is that Ford hates it's european cars. They killed the (relatively successful) Contour off, and now seems perfectly content to sit on it's first-gen Focus like Toyota seems perfectly happy to keep it's Corolla slow and boring. They both win in that department.

On my Cool Wall, this one gets left out on the counter to rot. No, I'm not ready to toss it into the Bowels of Hell, (I wonder what would happen if they put a stronger engine in it) but I still want Ford to wake up and ditch the Razor Nose.

Besides, I see far more Mazda 3s than Foci. That says something.

((Noted: I'll bet this has mostly to do with immense tooling changeover costs, and the unavailability of a Sedan. Even though the Hatch was the most popular Focus.))

I guess I'm more upset that they ditched the Mazda engine this time around. If I was offered an SES coupe with the 2.3L and a stick, I think I could get over the ugly looks. And I think Ford may fix the interior next year, maybe, if they're listening. If it was black on either side of the "aluminum" center stack, it would look fine...

Maybe because the drivers are "driving the **** out of them" because they are very fun to drive and chuck into corners.
I can vouch for that, the Focus is a blast to drive.

Last time I checked (so this may have changed in time), most cars used oil:sly:.
Excuse me.
"Burned oil"
And I should have said I haven't heard of many people who are fond of the Focus.
I personally, loved my Escort GT. It was pretty hard on tires too. But, I did throw it into corners pretty hard.
And it burned a little oil as well. Of course it was 10 years old when I bought it. You expect that from a car bought with 130K on the clock.
I don't know if I could live with a new car that did that.

Really, anything with the 1.8T "burns oil" extensively. Its one thing that has kept me from replacing the MKIII with an MKIV, I just don't know if I want a VR6 right now...

-> Another piece of wasted effort by FoMoCo USA. I've seen this actual car in person so many times (due to it rent-a-car status). It reminds me of its colleague all over again, the Ford's own Ranger. :indiff:

I found this today, looks like it tried to eat someones baby and they fought back . But seriously how long has this car been out? Only a few months and someone already managed to crash one.

My mother ended up in a Falcon cause she "got hit" every time she went out in the T-Bird.
Some people can't take new cars out on the street without being punted by someone.
Course, it looks like this person should have opted for the "back-up" sensor.

It actually seems like a logical, economical, and cheap car to buy, but it is a disgrace in our realm.

To quote "Car and Driver" Magazine (Though they were talking about the Corolla):
"You sister will love it."
