This is a thread series for the seasonal A-Spec Races that focuses on winning gold in the stock versions of the cars. The A-Spec seasonal appears to be very open ended allowing people to choose a wide variety of cars. This format should often allow players to use their favourite cars. One of the challenges, however, will be finding the cars that come with the right tires.

Warning: Some of these challenges might be extreme and should be approached with caution!

This thread is for people to post the cars they used to win gold which used the following limitations:

1) Car must be stock: no upgrades to cars are permitted (this includes upgrades that do not increase PP such as transmissions).
2) Fresh oil changes in order to temporarily increase HP and PP are not permitted. If you have done an oil change recently you should lower your car's power to the non-fresh-oil-change HP level or wait until the HP has returned to the OEM oil level.
3) You must use the original tires that the car came with.
4) No "Car Settings" like Brake Balance can be adjusted.
5) No SRF or ASM is allowed: other Driver Assists are permitted. [SRF is obviously permitted if PD has forced drivers to employ it.]

Stock A-Spec Seasonals #1:

Beginner Class Non-Racing Car Challenge: Roma - 500 PP - SH
Intermediate Non-Racing Car Challenge: Big Willow - 550 PP - SS
Expert Class Non-Racing Car Challenge: Suzuka - 600 PP - SS

I was not and still am not sure if creating a Stock A-Spec Seasonal series is worthwhile, especially given their very open-ended nature and given that many people will already have tuned online cars for such basic PP ranges. A few people have shown interest in the Time Trial thread, so after hesitating and seeing that all of this week’s seasonal Time Trials have courtesy cars with SRF forced off, I figure I would start it up and see if it goes anywhere.

My cars using a wheel and automatic transmission:
Beginner - Roma: Shelby GT350 '65 (close)
Intermediate - Big Willow: Shelby Cobra 427 '66 (easy)

I tried the Ford Shelby GT500 '13 but it was not even close. The car does not handle turns well to begin with, so trying it on SH tires at Suzuka was just for laughs.

I wish the car search feature allowed searching by stock tire types.

I have not had a chance to notice if there are different versions of competitor cars like there are for the main game's A-Spec races where the rabbits differ significantly.

Beginner - 370z
Intermediate - Yellow Bird
I think for the Expert one I bought SS tires so it doesn't fit with this thread. If I had the time I would have found a stock car to beat the race.

Edit: All Aids off, H-Shifter+Clutch, v1.09

Try looking at the common rivals to get an idea of the best suited car for the Expert one. Consider carefully, you need one that isn't rear-heavy but good on straights.

Beginner Class Non-Racing Car Challenge: Roma - 500 PP - SH = Lotus Evora '09 @ 460pp w/SH ... Beat the RUF RGT by .2

Intermediate Non-Racing Car Challenge: Big Willow - 550 PP - SS = Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car @509pp w/SH ...
Beat the LFA Nurb by .4
[had two wheels off road briefly going wide out of the first turn on the final lap so the gap could have been bigger across the line]

Beginner - Roma: Tesla Roadster (easy)
Intermediate - Big Willow: Tesla Roadster (not easy)
Expert - Suzuka: Tesla Roadster (impossible)

Even after changing to SS tyres the little Tesla was hopelessly outclassed at Suzuka. Came in last by quite a margin. I'll be trying out some other stock cars later.

This would make sense if the competition were driving stock, but they are driving tuned cars: e.g. The ZZII '00 comes with SH tires but the AI car is driving with SS tires when we look at the replay. In fact every AI car is using SS tires in my replay.

Maybe some of the tuner cars come with SS tires. I remember the blue RX-7 prize car came with SS.

A win at Suzuka is not going to happen with any sub 600pp car on SH tyres, It's a lost cause.

I have just barely managed to win by 2 seconds with an almost immaculate drive in a stock Enzo with SS tyres, and there was no crashing out into any sand by the rabbit F1 either.

I passed him going into Dunlop on the final lap and was fully expecting him to come charging at me into the hairpin and go screeching off track across the sand and into the barriers, but no, he stayed cool and took it neatly but he could not claw back the gap from there to the line.

For the beginner and the intermediate challenges I used a Suzuki GSX-R/4 concept car. just slapped on parts to make it reach the limit of 500 and 550 respectively. easy wins for me.

still have to try that car on the difficult level

I think you've missed the point of this thread, the challenges have to be done in stock cars, as in purchase them and drive...no "slapped on parts" 👍

Occasionally you've been a bit premature with your predictions of impossibility but I think you're right here. It's hard enough to find a car capable of beating any of the AI let alone getting P1. I did it in the Cadillac CIEN on SS after only managing about 10th on SH. First time I got into the lead at the end of lap 4 only to get shunted off the track at the hairpin by the F1. Next attempt I took my time and followed him on the last lap and sure enough he went ploughing into the gravel at the hairpin. It seems the AI are not actually being vindictive but are programmed to miss their braking points at certain corners and it's tough luck if you happen to be in their way.

...BLOODY H3LL!!

After I'd gotten home last night, I was going to give the Enzo a go at trying to gold the Seasonal, but it had already been pulled down by the time I got off work! Sadface.

Congrats on your win, sir. *raises pint*
