Any of you guys enjoy 'buying' new cars in GT3, and simply running them down the track(s), in their stock form?

Not unlike they do on TopGear (British show) with the Stig...? For some reason, i feel a greater satisfaction of 'handling' a stock car, then a fine-tuned one, where it is 'easier' to drive a car that you are used to, rather then discovering the querks of 'those other' cars out there...

I drove a RUF for the first time today, and have really enjoyed it, but lost most of the interest once i upgraded it.

Just a though...

I have no stock cars, outa all 92 cars i have (excluding the f1 that cant be upgraded) i upgrade every car i get teh moment i get it, try it out then tune it. and then never really drive it again  well atleast until i play agenst my friends.

I enjoy seeing what can be done on the PD cup, so of course I do! Nothing's more fun than blasting around in an untouched R390 Road car!

i also enjoy driving my cars in stock form... until they stop winning of course. then they get tricked out. i think my GT-ONE road car is stock. maybe one upgrade on it. and i think it has more miles than anything else in my garage... (tire uprgades don't count right, that doesn't actaully change the car right?)

I have to ask - what's the point?

I tend to drive most of my cars mostly stock. I do have some full-build cars, but if I enjoy them enough to put all that money into them, I usually keep a second one in stock form as well (RGT, for example). I also never do anything irreversible to a non-replaceable car.

I don't see how you can expect to upgrade a car without putting 50 miles on it at least in stock form. Otherwise, you'll never learn what needs to be upgraded.

That's exactly what i was going to say.

I find that when I buy/win a car now i usually leave it stock or just add one or two realistic tunning options like a new exhaust or bigger intercooler etc.

I like to take the lower class cars and just give them enough power to compete with the A class cars in arcade mode. No suspension or brake mods just engine upgrades like my 269 hp civic si or the 315 hp accord euro expands the variety a lil bit.

I second that. I love that car in stock form.

The only stock cars that I drive on even somewhat regular basis are RX-7, RGT, Tuscan, Z06, and Viper. Everything else just makes me want to blow my brains out it's so slow and understeery.

What I like to do, and maybe some of you should try it, is buy a car and just put the biggest turbo and intercooler (maybe some exhaust to make it sound better if necessary) and that's it. Then go drive it. With stock brakes, suspension, and tires it's pretty fun to drive. Drifting is a lot easier in my opinion. It's really cool with the gt-r vspec II for example, it slides everywhere and so much POWER! :D

well, its just in simulation mode i only drive so manny cars for all the races, the rest are for show, like hey, check out how manny cars i have :trouble: ! and what not, also i just dont like having a stock car, knowing it could always go faster and its not doing all it could do, :irked: upgradeing allows for moer to be done to the car to. like messing with some things in the wrong way, and trying to drive it  when i did that to my mini, when the computer was raceing it he was ramming into tones of walls :banghead: so, really, i dont see a reason to keep stock, if i wanted to just drive around slowly, ill take off the N/A tune ups or the turbo upgrades, because a lighter car with super soft wheels will drive easyer then a stock car annyday.

Neon, every one gets enjoyment from playing GT3 their own particular way. You get your enjoyment from driving mainly stock cars and putting in as few upgrades as possible.
Gameboy FX gets his enjoyment from upgrading all cars and driving as such.
This is the appeal of GT3 in that people can play the game anyway they choose.
It is challanging to play GT3 with stock and near stock cars and this gives a real sense of achievment.
It is also challanging taking a stock car and seeing how far you can take it in competions by slowly upgrading it along the way.
My old game save had 200 cars on it, with most upgraded fully and driven about 300 km each to see how far they would go. However I did not upgrade them all at the start. The credits earnt for the upgrades came from earning credits with the car being used at the time. Also stage 2 NA and stage 2 turbo was the usual limit for power upgrades. Unfortunately this save got corrupted!
However my 12 year old son likes to buy a new car and add all the big power upgrades etc at the start similar to Gameboy FX and he (my son) gets his kicks from high top speed.
Where am I going with this, I sort of lost track.
Thats it, I just want to say playing GT3 any way you like is fun. :D

I love to drive a stock cars around Laguna Seca. I never tune a car to the max unless it is necessary. I mostly tune them up to 250 - 350HP and I use simulation tires for either drifting and grip driving.

Oh, I agree fully. The game is what you make it. But the parts in red below are what I was really taking exception to, not the general idea of upgrading the cars:

Some cars I try to keep as stock as possible, and others get modded to make the driving more interesting.

What I prefer to do is make my cars earn their keep by only using what it's earned to perform upgrades. Once the power starts to disappear from a round of the PD Cup, I upgrade it as necessary. There are a few cars that I went crazy on upgrading, but only if I had a spare.

I try to spread out the mileage over my fleet. I have two F1's with just over 700 miles, but only one other car (C-West Siliva) with close to that many.

Another one failed the entrance exam or maybe the class was already full.

I would like to ask FX if the Mustang is one of the 92 cars in his garage that he has driven extensively, or as he put it.....

Mustang is a garage filler, needed if you want all the American stuff that can run.

Heavy, yeah, lacking race car grip, yeah, but horrible, no. :D

Gotta say, the mustang is fast.
Run with little hp increase, and lightweight stage 3. 👍
Well balanced with low hp, mosterous wheel spin with the max 715hp.

I like the mustang, but not enough to mention it in a stock car thread.

I like to run almost every sports car in the game when in stock form. However, there are a few stand outs.
rgt
tuscan
vette
rx7
nsx
wrx (polydigital runs)
miata

I could mention stock race cars if you all can handle that...
castrol supra
vertigo
oreca
zonda
787
206 rally
evo 7 rally. ;)

Thats about it from me. :D
Later.

Stock does not really refer to settings.

When I said stock race cars, I was refering to a race car that has not had any upgrades/ modifications.

Like the denso supra... stock: 487hp. Fully modified: more than 900hp.

Do you see the difference.

Stock applies to the parts of a car and not the settings for those parts.

Like if you buy the evo6 rs.
It has adjustable downforce, but it is still all stock.
Adjusting that downforce does not change the car's equipment, it only changes the settings.

So... stock applies to parts more than settings.
(especially in the way I was using it)

"Stock" simply means that the car is only equipped with the original equipment. (OE = orig. equip.)

Just thought you would like to know that.
:D

btw, the jagxj220 is a sweet car in stock form... 0tcs and 0asm at the polyphony digital cup makes for some fun overkill races. :D
