Stock standard cars vs Fully modded

Firstly sorry if this type of thread has been created already. Havent seen it yet though. BUT are there many people out there that love driving there spankin new 458 with nothing more than a set of slicks on it?

I mean GT5 is about realism, well mostly anyway. If we could afford a brand new Maserati GranTurismo ‘08 in real life, there is no way you'd be ripping the back seats out to gain an extra 0.4secs over a 1/4 mile. Or would you?! I dunno.

Out of the 50 cars or so I have in the Garage, most of them have only a set of racing tyres, an oil change and a air filter. Sometimes a sports exhaust making that V8 sound a little sweeter like on the SS Commodore.

But while I'm trying to level up I much prefer a hard fight for 3rd place rather than lapping Honda Civics 3 times with a 1200hp Veyron. Obviously I have made exceptions like for drift cars and the odd 700hp Skyrine here and there. Plus others. But you catch my drift. Pardon the pun.

At the mo my fav stock cars are the Gallardo LP 560 and the Chevrolet Camaro SS ‘69.

Whats your thoughts? Are you a stock standard driver? Or do you super turbo charge every carbon fibre Daihatsu Midget that passes through your hands? :sly:

It depends on the car. Exotics I tend to lightly tune, racecars are untouched, Civics and the like I fully tune them into giant-killers. Although for cars which I entrust to my useless A.I drivers I go all out to save myself the time and frustration (the same goes for A-spec grind cars).

When i had a ton of cash to spare i will have a fully stock line and fully tricked out line of cars. I mean at the moment i got a 599 and slr that have like stage one or 2 lightning and some intake and exhaust upgrades but otherwise stock. I mean it is not hard to imagine ripping out the radio, a/c, some seats and some insulation to gain minus 100 200 weight.

BUt having to buy crazy cars for my b spec guys, plus buy cars for some of the seires just for myself keeps me not having all the options i would like atm.

Cars i like i have 2 of; one that is stock and has only sports soft tyres, then i have another one which has aero parts, all the lightening modifications, and racing hard tyres.

I don't see the appeal of max tuning cars, if i need a faster car I'll use one that is faster stock.

I do nicer tires, air filter and ECU on a lot of my cars, but mostly stock. If I trick something out (turbos, etc) it's either a car I don't care about, or I have a second, stock version.

I tend to keep mine stock. Makes the racing more fun for me and leaves me more money for when I stumble across a car I like. Besides, nothing I love seeing more online than some someone with every possible upgrade done to a Lambo they can't keep on the track.

I prefer to keep my cars stock, unless I have to add some upgrades to win certain events. Unfortunately I had to tune my 458 and Gallardo to beat the Lambo and Ferrari events and you can't undo the engine stage upgrade so they're stuck like that. I wish PD made arcade mode like GT4 so that once you purchase/receive a car you unlock it in the arcade menu (stock specs). Unfortunately I'll have to buy two of every super car I have to tune, since I love driving them the most.

Agree with most of you here~ I tend to do minimal tuning on my lovely cars - probably only tyres, suspensions, exhaust & oil change. Pretty much what I would do in real life.

I played NFS shift - and dumped it within 3 mths... largely because I don't like playing with heavily tuned cars that don't feel or behave in their original way

The 458 with race tires is such a joy to drive. It could turn out to be my new Ring cruiser.

For me, it's always been stock with tires that closely replicate the car's real world handling and performance. The tire thing is very trick but now that we have the Top Gear TT using its leaderboard as a gauging mechanism, that will be an ideal place to start (as well as the Nordschleife which has its own car performance leaderboard). Tuning and setup for me is normally restricted to RM or Super GT cars. And if in real life the car has fully adjustable suspension like Zonda R, then I would tinker to achieve better performance. It also helps that I don't really play the game. I just do enough to get the cars I want and spend inordinate amount of time on a track trying to beat my own time :)

I leica :)

Basically, the better the car, the less I do to it. Seems like supercars get ruined whenever I add more power. I like driving them as they are. However, when I buy cheaper cars that aren't really meant for racing, then I'll go all out and it seems to make them a lot more fun to drive.

I couldn't agree more.

Obviously there are a few cars in my garage that are heavily modified for certain races etc... but the majority will only get an oil change and very little else.

Also, who is that girl in your picture? 👍👍👍

I agree with the original poster. That's why I'm working hard to have two models of each of my favorite cars. One completely stock right down to tires, not a single mod. Then others with whatever I wish to maximize their performance though it doesn't mean maximum horsepower, more like how much horsepower can I put and still make it handle and drive well.

The reason for the completely stock cars is to do my own comparisons that should pretty much reflect what would have happened in real life if I drove a SLS AMG on the ring vs an 458 Italia vs an Lexus LFA. The best times I would set give me an indicator of which car I would be able to drive the fastest on the ring in real life. These stock units would answer a lot of unanswered questions that car magazines didn't answer because they didn't compare these cars on that circuit or couldn't because the circuit only exists in Gran Turismo. Same comparisons will be carried out on the top gear track, C63 vs M3 vs Lexus ISF. So I have a lot of months ahead of me of GT5 driving! If they give us more new cars via DLC then I could keep playing this game forever! or until GT6 comes along, most likely on the PS4.

I agree with this. When I first played the game, I did a few unremoveable mods to my chromeline Lambo, which I now feel like I have ruined. Its probably my amatuer driving but still I think I have wasted this car.

I'm the exact opposite. Every car that I plan on driving I max it out. Upgrading cars has always been one of my favorite things about the GT series.

With that being said, I'll still try to keep the races that actually matter balanced. I'll use a lesser car so that it jives with the other cars in the race. Grinding, on the other hand, I'll do everything I can to get that race over as fast as possible.

I do a mixture of both. A lot of cars, like exotics, I like to leave alone. However, I do have a project M3 that I'm making a gts (or whatever that track-pack is called) type tuner, and I'm playing with an RM Evo IX as well. Both fun project cars. :)
