Stomach virus

I woke up at 3AM, and I was not feeling my self at all. Everything hurt, I was just trying to find a comfortable position to sleep. Then I fell asleep again for 3 hours and woke up at 6:30 or so. Fell asleep at the living room. Every thing hurts, my back, my head, my ears, my stomach a little now. And when I barfed... It was like a yellow / dark brownish color.

Is this a stomach virus? Like the symptoms and all? I feel better since I threw up and I'm going to eat some chicken soup and oatmeal later.

I had a glass of ginger ale too. Any help on what to do?

Thanks,

-Matt.

The brown/yellow sick could be linked to what you had eaten the previous day. I think stomach acid is actually yellow anyway. Sounds like flu symptons to me especially with the aching. Probably best to get to the doctors just in case.

We just went through this about two weeks ago. Lots of good advice in there.

Ginger Ale is good. I recommend it. For some reason, it settles my stomach. But, if it doesn't, and you barf, it's not as bad as without ginger ale in your stomach.

Drink A LOT of water. Eat breads, cereals, raisins, apples and oatmeal. It is good to for you in your condition, so eat a lot, too. You need to either poop or puke that virus out of you and you cannot do either without a lot of food and water in you.

I heard flat coke is good for an upset stomach.

NoQuarter
This is the path you should take. All other considerations are secondary.
Why? A doctor can't give you anything for a stomach virus except a placebo and a doctors note fro your employer.

Unless you're in an "at risk" group (e.g. diabetic, elderly etc) or you're ill for more than a week, don't bother.

I've had teh flu for a week now :( my body aching and I'm coughing all week . Good thing is my Uncle is an ENT and my dad is a surgeon and my Aunts husmund is an anastatiech (makes people sleep for surgery lol) and my other uncle is a Patahology(or viurs doctor do blood tests ...ect) so I just sit at home and ask one to check me , and there is nothing anybody of the can do lol

But what if it wasn't a stomach bug?

No. It's poor judgment to ask for and receive medical advice on an Internet forum from people who assume to know-it-all, when your doctor can advise you correctly.

So you've never accepted advice off a friend/colleague, only certified specialists?

That is correct. At worst, "It might be a virus, but you should really see your doctor"

If you vomit copious amounts - like after a binge for example then vomit may become brown and even red blood stained.
Bile itself is a sort of greeny brown colour, which explains the initial brownness (and also why poo is brown!) and it's quite normal to bleed a little as violent retching and vomiting can break capilliaries in the stomach and oesophagus.

It's never worth worrying about vomiting and diahorrea too much unless it's been continuous for more than 24 hours or the affected person is under five/elderly (or other 'at risk' group. Diabetics should already be aware of the 'sick day rules'.
May sure you take plenty of fluids on board and rehydration salts from the pharmacy are a good idea. Don't every worry about eating if you feel unwell, you'll be ready to eat again when your body decides. Clear fluids are the order of the day.

What if my head ache was a blood clot?

What if my paper cut went gangrinous?

What if a drunken motorist mounted the pavement while I was listening to my MP3 player?

Have I made my point?

It only has to happen once in a million times.

I'm not saying I do, but if I had something I was concerned about (like the thread starter obviously did) then I wouldn't ask an internet forum for advice, no offence to anyone here.

Exactly. Looking for/receiving medical advice on an Internet forum is not exactly the type of "living on the edge" behavior that I think would evoke awe from the dull and meek.
