Stop Telling Us To Search

So you're against members, politely directing noobs to use the Search button?
That is what Both Duke and I have stated.
There are those that will be rude. I can be if provoked.
But usually, we're trying to help.
I guess you'd rather wait for hours or days for someone to answer your question. In this generation of people wanting "instant gratification" I commend you on your "patience".
Most folks want what they want, when they want it. To them it is no imposition to use the Search function to get their instant gratification.

Pfft, what would you know?

PS, I lick...:p

Btw, this was in reply to Concept...;)

We tell u guys to search because it is better than creating useless threads like this one.
If you have a problem with people telling you to search think.. why if u had searched u probably would find around 4-8 threads on the same topic ;)

Like one I've made before.

Well, it's not so horrible when a newbie asks a previously asked question. Here's a suggestion.. Instead of asking them to do the search themselves, maybe just give them the link to the thread with the answer. So 1. You don't have to answer the question again 2. It doesn't appear pomptous and it's not as frustrating for the newbie who for one reason or another doesn't/cannot use search. I think it's a good compromise.
kideng

I'm on both sides. Of course everyone should use the search function (not just newbie's). but I also think that people should b*tch to newbies about it either. Just give them the answer and politely say," Next time, use the search function. It makes this a whole lot easier for all of us."

That's what I'm saying.:D
I'm not about raging at noobs for asking old questions over, and over.
Like the last line of my first post in this dumb thread.
"Give a man a fish and he eats today.
Teach a man to fish he can feed himself forever."

Good. This thread should be closed.;)

i'll add my 2 cents:

go away. if you don't like how the site works, leave it. this is definitely not gonna help you get any answers to ANY questions.

Wow, interesting thread. I've seen threads like this come up in the past. You have a couple of elements that come into play.

1.) You have vetrens that have been here since the beginning of time and have actually read each and every post on this site, therefore, not finding the answer to your question by using the search button is an insult to how much time they have spent into contributing to this site. Image a person who took the time to create the 'Prize' list, and a noob comes along asking what car they win at 50%. The Vet put hours upon hours to make the post, and the noob couldn't take 5 minutes to search for the answer.

2.) Not knowing what to type in the search box... I've been a victim of this myself. I have found myself searching high and low for something, all the while, it was right under my nose, but I wasn't typing the correct keywords in the search field.

3.) Lastly, you have the experience (former noob) member that has a chance to make themselves feel better about themselves by belittling a brand new member. This type of ingredients makes for a abusive environment for the new member.

Point being, the search feature is there for a reason, to aid in the delivery of information without bringing up 'old news' that has been discussed to death. If all your looking for is answers, then a year old thread with that information should surfice. If, on the other hand, your looking for feedback, I would say a new thread would definately be in order which would help stimulate current feedback in your thread.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I can tell you that I have recieved a polethera of help with my questions. And I try to return the same kind of service. If I come across a question that I know has been discussed in the past, I will look it up, and will tell the member what 'keywords' to use to find the answer they are looking for.

I'm sorry that you have gotten a sour taste in your mouth from the way that you have been treated, but I do not agree with creating new threads instead of using the search feature.

BTW - Feel free to PM any Moderator for a specific catigory if you have a question. We will be more than happy to give you or show you how to get the information that your looking for.

Instead of half the mods saying use the search function how 'bout some of you actually help the newbies by finding the information for them and tell the politely of the serach function.

I have seen this afew times and have seen some positive feed back from the n00bs. :)

Question for the veterans...

If EVERYTHING about this game is available thru the search fuction, then what's the purpose of having this board still running?
Wouldn't it save bandwidth and frustration if this board was shut down and all the answers were archived for reference? At least then you wouldn't be bothered with people asking questions that have been answered 100 times before.

That would be true if you never needed feedback or further discussion on topics already discussed.

Sometimes that is the case, sometimes it is not.

In point of fact, there are still things to be learned in this forum about all the GT games.
But if you look around, we, as a forum are a very eclectic bunch. Our youngest members are pre-teens and there are old timers out there in their 50's.
We share alot of other stuff besides GT-3.
Y'all were here for me and Omega Star when we lost loved ones.
We've helped some folks thru relationship issues.
There is still time to be cut off of laps at EVERY track, and there are folks here that can tell you how to do it.
We may have never seen each other, but a lot of us consider the people here our friends. Not seeing each other face to face also gives us a "freedom" to be as open or guarded as we're comfortable with.
And occasionally when we see an old question. We may have formed some new information for the answer. Sometimes, it's interesting to go back to the old stuff to see how much we've grown.
I see MourningStar's point. This is more of a "Be nice to noobs" thread. I hope that we all can remember to do just that.

Well, in that case there'd be no point in the Search function being there, would there?

Go do a search.

I agree with <MOURNINGSTARR> all the way. Big deal if a question is brought up in the past. When I first came here I never used the search function. When you're new somewhere you usually don't think about stuff like that.Shutting down all threads and telling the thread starter to use the search function is ludacris.

Now for the thing that really pisses me off...STOP SAYING IT TAKES UP SPACE AND COSTS MONEY! DO YOU REALLY GIVE A DAMN ABOUT HOW MUCH SPACE A THREAD JUST TOOK UP OR HOW MUCH MONEY JORDAN HAS TO PAY? I sure as hell don't. I'm happy he pays for the site and stuff yeah but, I'm positive more than half of you who say that are freaking brown nosing idiots. Yes, some of you do need to get of your high horses as well.

Aaahhh an ally :trouble:
