I've just been following for a few years now and just noticed that the Nurburgring 24H, which is usually held in May, has been pushed to the week just after LeMans. Is that strange? Would there not be some overlap of cars/drivers?

Though it would be a great time to visit europe, I'm thinking...💡

How do you mean by overlap? They're quite close to each other, if anything it could be better for numbers?

Meaning is it difficult for a team to have two back-to-back weekends each with 24 hour races.

I wouldn't think so. There aren't really any teams that do both races (not with the same car anyway consider the regs on both sides are different). If anything, its mainly the drivers that would have to go between the two.

I see. Doing a little more research, there really isn't much (or at all) overlap.

Still, it would be a great time to be in N/E Europe!

From what I've heard, they usually try to schedule the N24 around a holiday weekend in Germany called Fronleichnam which is usually 60 days after Easter Sunday.

I have a feeling the next few years are going to be causing quite a few conflicts with race and series organizers and people in Europe deciding where they want to go for their big motor racing roadtrips, not to mention a potential clash with a milestone race in the US.

2015: 4 June
2016: 26 May
2017: 15 June

I think this race should be part of the world endurance championship. Or is it just too dangerous for the LMP1 cars ?

Definitely , Le mans is close to Paris and Nurburgring is close to Amsterdam ! Have a nice trip if you go there ;) !

That's correct!

Perfect, I could spend a week in Paris, go to LeMans, spend the week between in Amsterdam, go to the Nurb...and die a happy man :D

The N24 is a GT and Touring Car Endurance race so I don't think that would be possible. If the WEC did have a race at the Nurburgring, they would be using only the GP section of the facility.

That's interesting you say that, why do you think it would just be the gp section ? is it the danger ? surely if they are all fia regulated races then the fia decide where they race. would an 24 hour wec race devalue or undermine the n24 ? I think they should do it as I cant see the wec being a threat

Here's two huge things though that doesn't make this easy:

1. The ACO sanctions the 24 Hours Of Le Mans (and the WEC with the FIA). I can't recall who the sanctioning body of the Nurburgring 24, but the specs and rules between the two as vastly different.

2. As mentioned, the Nurburgring 24 hour is a GT/Touring car race. For safety reasons, LMPs do not run at the Ring anymore
