So I had this strange email from Sony (generic email from "Playstation") entitled "Congratulations on your big win" today:

Firstly, I have no clue what they mean by me being a series champion as I haven't played GT6 in about a week. When I clicked the link that says your hot new cars await you it simply took me to a GT6 website that had some odd features, a frozen countdown to the release of the game in 2013, some other preview kinda stuff but then a further link to "Ayrton's Dream" with a big pic of the black and gold lotus, which was of course brought in some time after release.

Really odd, and needless to say, no rewards, though it did have a slideshow of some large pics of random cars in the game, and their prices.

Anyone else had this?

Yep, I know quite a few people who have had that e-mail. After you earn the platinum trophy you get 500,000 credits.

I just got the same email as well I found it strange myself most likely a fake unfortunately as I wouldn't mind that 500,000cr ;)

The timing just seems random. I've yet to gold Senna at Brands Hatch (though may do that this weekend with Praiano's tune) and never gonna gold the X2010/2014/whatever at Goodwood or the Vettel challenges (not with my DS3 anyway). So not sure what this is based on.

Check the link. I dont know though since it doesn't involving money/any other typical scam. Weird indeed.

The 500,000cr is supposedly genuine but amazingly I've never Platinumed it. As for the e-mail... well, it could be a promotional push or timed for a specific trophy - it actually hints at the Series Champion trophy (which you should unlock in the Novice Championship really early on in the game) which is a bronze trophy as displayed in the e-mail - but I've no idea.

What does the header information say about the sender and date sent?

Funny, because I got the same Platinum trophy e-mail awhile back but no mention of any free credits.

Received today too... I have the game at 100% and all gold (DS3) and only missing autobahn trophy... Still the email is kind of weird... :odd:

On mine, this is the sender: PlayStation@eu.playstationmail.net

EDIT: forgot to mention, mine has a different text and a gold trophy pic...

This is what I got some time ago, long after I got Platinum in the game. As I said before, there was no mention of any free credits anywhere in the e-mail so as far as I'm concerned, what @peobryant has said earlier about getting free credits is false and misleading unless he can prove otherwise.

The e-mail address from which it came from is PlayStation@playstationemail.com which is a legit address for them.

Cant wait for an Australian to jump on this with false advertisement (or some other accusation, legit reason)... this game has gotten too far out of hand; whether or not its spam or legit.

I have no idea what message the above poster was trying to convey, and I just watched a film in which a boy rode a bicycle backwards along a bumpy curvy running track in a game of Tetris and a girl played basketball in order to allow a ghost to die so the devil could go to heaven and basically understood most of it. But seriously, which game has gotten too far out of hand?

Recently ( I cannot remember who or where it was posted) someone posted something about Australian law for false advertisement.. this is just another thing to add to the peg board (if this is legit, which i mentioned above) as to what PD have said about the game, which others have said has happened or not.

The release of GT6 IMO has been more frustrating than 5 was. So little was done as far as improvements users would actually value as the last edition for this console. What would most value more: A new tire model (which is still messed up) with a premium tire co, a new physics engine (which i have noticed a slight change, but I dislike a lot about it) or improved sounds, for all premium and select standards?

I dont know about you, but I'd go for the sounds. Wait to add the physics, and other modeling stuff for the next gen, and improve on what lacks the most. My grade for this game is an F, because when I first played the disc (not the GT academy download) I honestly could not tell many things which were improved, but more that made me dislike the game.

I'll be up all night waiting for my 500,000 in-game credits that I can spend in the PlayStation®Store.

I think I got one of these a few months ago so I highly doubt I'll get another one but, if I do I'll post about it here.

Received the very same e-mail yesterday (in french). Confusing reference to new cars available on the Playstation Store.

It may be related to the 15mln settlement for 2011 PSN outage. Sony is most likely to give away little freebies, (that doesn't affect their bottom line nowhere near 15mln $) for a total value of 15mln.

It may be completely unrelated but this is a strong contender. Did Sony ever gave any in-game content or credits/tokens/whatever for getting a platinum trophy in other games ?

"A settlement has been proposed and approved by Sony which would see the platform holder paying out about $15 million in content to users affected by the great PSN outage of 2011. The content on offer includes PlayStation 3 and PSP games, PS Plus and Music Unlimited subscriptions, PS3 themes and SOE Station credit.

If you were affected by the outage, you’ll be able to claim a part of this settlement – assuming a judge green lights the scheme at a May 1 ruling. DualShockers has turned up a link it believed will allow you to file your claim now, but it looks pretty dodgy, actually, so we advise against it.

Up to $6 million of this content will be distributed to users who were PSN members at the time of the outage and didn’t benefit from Sony’s Welcome Back package. Claims will be honoured on a first-in basis, and you’ll be able to choose up to two bonuses – including the same one twice, if you like.

A further $4 million worth of content is to be awarded to those who did take advantage of the Welcome Back bonus; these users will only receive one piece of bonus content, and again, first-in, best dressed. Affected Qriocity and SOE members who didn’t have PSN accounts will also be compensated."

Interesting, but I got the Welcome Back games (all of them, using two profiles, like a sneaky sneak lolz)

I got that mail (and the 500.000 credits) a few months ago. It did not mention Platinium as a goal (probably because I already received that trophy earlier on.
This is genuine 👍

Well, I stand corrected then and my apologies to @peobryant. As you can see from my post in that thread, I never got the free credits then and still haven't gotten them. It appears to be the case for others as well. Just another screw up by PD. Its like they can't tell their asses from a hole in the ground a lot of the time. Very incompetent company at times that seems to have trouble getting even the simplest of things right. I get screwed out of my Gold Chrome paint chip in the Seasonal TT event and now this. Not something that I'll lose any sleep over, but its just the principle of it all you know.
