Last week, I went to the local market with my mother and some of the clothes, particularly jeans, were odd.

Well, last time I heard, jeans were associated with the working class. But recently, people have been wearing them for other occasions. Personally, I think this is a great idea. They're great articles of clothing, comfortable and durable.

What got me thinking was that some of the jeans were intentionally "destroyed". They weren't what one would consider "fashionably" ripped, but instead, they were just ripped up. They also had crease marks, which are only supposed to appear on clothing after a hundred rinse cycles or so. Yet, they sold these curious jeans as "new" jeans.

Now, what's the actual purpose of buying a pair of jeans that instantly makes everyone presume that it is old and worn-out? Wouldn't you be worried that people would think you're poor?

Why not just buy normal-looking jeans and wear them out until they deteriorate?

But hey, I'm just 14-years old so maybe this is something that I'm not supposed to understand yet.

Thanks.

It’s a dumb fashion thing – “vintage” is all the rage for some bizarre reason. In six months, all of the fashion lemmings will find something completely different to look for.

Don’t try to understand it, otherwise the rational part of your head will explode. If anything, it’s the best sign in the world that you don’t understand it.

Jeans are awesome. Only article of clothing that you can wear for a week without it showing.

"old" is the new new....

Anyone remember "Stone Washed" ?... That sucked for sure...

Yeah, nothin' like a great pair of jeans.

Only article of clothing that you can wear for a week without it showing.

...And you can pretty much wear the same pair for days and no one would notice. I will get compliments from the same person...about the same pair of jeans...2 or 3 days in a row.

"Hey, these are nice, too."

"Yeah, thanks a lot..." :odd:

But you should wash your jeans, man. Gross!

It did indeed, but not as bad as that horror product of the '80s 'Snow Washed'

Now that was truly terrifying, and quite disturbingly the site I dug that picture up from seems to hint that it may be coming back under a new name of 'Acid Washed'. You have been warned.

^^ Nice cameltoe there btw.

I was going to say the same thing too! :sly:

Ripped jeans are cool -as long as you didn't buy them like that. I have a couple of pairs of jeans that have taken a good couple of years to create the rips I have in them. They feel unique, and I love 'em!

*hugs week old piss-ridden jeans* :sly:

We all do things in the name of fashion but I would like to know what rock you have been living under, I am OLD (ask my son-whats he call himself now-Ricky Fitness or something silly like that) and jeans have been a fashion item rather than a piece of work clothing since before I was your age (and thats a long time). I do have to agree with you on the torn dirty look though, never really got that one.

But you can definatly wear them twice without washing them.
Unless your name is Jack and then you wear them for 2 months without washing.(he's away on school camp so I can say what I like about him hehe)

If I own a pair of jeans long enough to get a hole in an "acceptable" location, they then become my colder weather lawn mowing or working on the car jeans. I'm sure as hell not buying them that way. Give me a good pair of Levi's 560's any day.

Same thing goes for hats. I prefer my 5 year old, beat up Hard Rock hat to the new one my wife just bought me. The new one doesn't feel quite right.

And God/Zenu help us if Acid wash comes back. This is one GTP'er that will resist that with every fiber of his being.

Damn, I remember wearing those acid-washed jeans, around 1987 to 1989. I had a pair that were especially baggy, and I liked them even though they were not part of the fashion of the times. Baggy jeans came around a few years later.

Form what I've understood about American fashion over the years, if you buy a pair of basic, straight-cut, blue jeans, you'll never be out of style, depite all the changes to them over the years. Every jeans company that's been around for years makes their basic stuff, and their seasonal crap that's out of style a year later. Go with the basic, unpretentious stuff and you can't go wrong.

Unless the crotch falls out of the jeans, I keep them for 3-5 years. Jeans don't really fit well until they're two years old; some of them just take time to mould to your body; the tears and holes also tell a story.

TB and FormulaNone have hit the nail on the head...jeans and hats get better with time.

Unfortunately, I dropped 1-2 inches in the waist in the last few months so the jeans I used to like are a little large on me now. They've been washed so many times that even though they started out the normal blue color, now they are almost white. Hella comfortable, though.

Also have an orange hat which has some nice wear on it...I look pretty grungy wearing it though due to all the grease stains on it.

I've got a pair of jeans on right now that I wouldn't wear going out, they're a bit too loose. I've gone down a size or two in the last 8 months myself. But they are probably the most comfy pair I've got.

I had a pair that was about 2 sizes too big and had one of the back pockets half ripped off, but they were still one of the most comfortable pants i've ever had. My girlfriend called them my "easy access" pants and would continuously poke me in the butt with her finger, so they became my garage/barn pants. Then one day there was a horrible accident and they were lost for good. I cried that day, then I punched the cow. :(

Did it take a doo doo on your jeans?

I never used to like jeans, but now I do. I don't have enough experience with them to have any good stories or even realize their comfiness, but I guess they're nice.

I usually buy jeans that look at least somewhat faded - I'm just not a fan of the straight solid blue. I don't do the ripped thing, though.

Wow! I had not realized that jeans were not the normal wear for pants.
But jeans are good, you can wear them durning the day nicely, or dress them up to go out at night (yes dress up the jeans!)
I think the one sold with pre-holes are soo stupid! You then can't have the pride of making the hole yourself with wear and you tend to pay twice as much for jeans with holes.... what is the deal with that!?

I think my old hat is now waterproof. I was staining my fence 2 years ago, it was windy and I made the mistake of spraying the stain on. I tried washing it and it looks exactly the same as when it went in. It has humbly been downgraded to my lawn mowing or working on the car hat along with my well worn jeans.

I buy jeans that are look a bit aged, but refuse to buy pant's with holes. I like the way Jeans look when they Are worn in, so why wait for a year or two to get the look?

The only hole in my jeans has a zipper attached.

Ripped jeans are for idiots. You're supposed to earn your battlescars.

I admit I did buy one pair of torn jeans, but it was just a small tear below the knee, and I managed to put a real tear in them in the same place a couple of weeks later.

Infact, all my jeans have rips in them, but they're all from wear and tear. One pair has a hole so big I can fit my other foot through it. :guilty:

Bad Wendy - Go sit in the corner !...

Pwning (I was gonna say "Humiliating" - But for some strange reason, pwning seems to work better) your son like that
