strange problem - my son is spending all the credits I earn until I get home from work

Definitely create a different account and lock your own. Then he can play when he wants and when you're around you can help him make money and progress on his (if he wants). And you can also let him 'drive' the expensive cars that you've bought on your account. That might also inspire him to save up and learn from your example.

With his account, let him play. It's a game. We all grow up and end up working on things too soon! :)

Only downside to this, is that you can't use him as child labour and get him to grind credits for you whilst you work. :lol:

On a side note, you barely need to spend a penny to advance through the first 39 menu books. Only one pickup needs to be bought.
