So I finally got a decent wheel (T150) for the first time since I had to give up my G25 when moving abroad four years ago, which means I can once again appreciate the finer joys of sims like Assetto Corsa.
And AC really is quite magnificent, and I'm not just enjoying hotlapping but also the handful of short races I've run so far. Planning on starting career mode tonight.

However I'm rather puzzled about what the game considers "same class"? I started what I thought would a GT3 race earlier today (I have all the DLC) but was rather puzzled to see that the field also included GT2, some Lamborghini road cars and a prototype or three. I didn't have the specs of those cars readily in mind, but aside from the not exactly pure GT3 mix I was just as surprised to see that all the cars seemed broadly competitive.

What's going on here? Bugs? Or does AC include other cars that would be competitive with the player's car? Or worst of all, is it artificially meddling with the performance of some of the AI cars?
I was comparing AC and Project cars for a GT3 race on Nürburgring GP and despite the smaller field of cars I enjoyed the AC race a bit more. Although that impression was dampened somewhat by the seemingly mismatched bunch of cars and the sneaking suspicion that some rubberbanding number fiddling might be going on behind the scenes.

No, you can choose same cars or same class. Some of the classes have wide gaps in performance. Eg took the old 718 spyder out yesterday and was in a race with the '74 RSR, not going to win that battle.

The 'same class' filter is mostly a disaster on consoles. The worst I've seen is the Porsche 935/78 matched up against classic super cars such as the F40 and Yellowbird. There may not be other Group 5 cars in the game but that's no excuse to have nonsensical "classes". Kunos should let console players pick AI opponent cars, as on the PC version.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard! WTF is wrong with this game? I could almost understand if there were only three GT3 cars in the game, but GT3 is the most plentiful race class available. I am so freakin' glad I'm on PC. If I had purchased a PS4 and then experienced this nonsense after the God awful overall experience GT6 provided, I think I would jump off a bridge. :banghead:

Yes it is stupid. You know the worst thing. It's on PURPOSE. I remember Stefano saying that you wouldn't be able to choose individual AI cars on console because people would complain about the performance of this car or that car not being right!!!!

Seriously? That doesn't make sense as we can individually select everything on PC. I know that there are a million differences between the two games, however, physics are supposed to be the same, therefore, a Audi R8 GT3 on PC should perform the same way on console (within hundredths of a second...maybe thousandths...), a BMW Z4 GT3 should perform the same way...etc...etc...

That seems like a very strange rationale. I don't know. I need to stop even trying to understand why there are such great differences.

To be fair, there aren't that many differences that affect me. Just AI car selection and track surface options.

Oh and steering setup options and calibration options. What really ticks me off is that he does an interview where he admits that Kunos are not "game" makers but sim makers but then goes on to suggest that console gamers expected to be able to crash and stiill win! Where did he get that from? Never in any game with any semblance of seriousness would I ever expect that. Not even in GT6 with its catch up logic!
The problem on launch was that the AI was substantially faster on console than on PC. A member on the official site with both PC and console versions was able to demonstrate that with videos showing him win a PC career race but get no where near on console. That was fixed? When they added two extra difficulty levels.
Really they should just consentrate on what they are good at and give us the tools to make the game we want. That means leaderboards for time attackers, private rooms for online racers and the ability to choose what cars I race against on the track surface age I choose to race on in single races or championships.

All these things Stefano "has said" make it seem like Kunos deliberately tries to make the game worse than it has to be. If true, I'd like to know where the root of these twisted perceptions come from. Is it based on anything real or just cliché assumptions? Even my 9 year old nephew has raised some of the concerns about the console version we also have on this forum. Their silly excuses come across as a way to justify some the things they haven't yet figured out how to do properly on consoles.

Fortunately, same here.
