Does anyone else think this is strange..?

I have have been playing GT5 with my DFGT for around 2 months now and I suppose I have gotten the hang of it apart from when a car is going to spin out I cannot control it whatsoever and hit the wall!! :grumpy:
Thats also another reason why I can't drift on my wheel as I cannot throw it about fast enough.. 👎

Right as I was saying, I set a time of 1.00.159 on my DFGT using a Nissan Skyline R34 and driving on the Tsukuba track, then I decided to test out my controller to see how the times differ, I couldn't believe it I got a time of 57.994 secs on it, from just my first 3 laps!?!

Now I am really confused on how this happened maybe it's my driving style I am not sure but I am definitely sure that I have got the hang of my wheel.. If anything I thought my lap times would be alot quicker on my wheel.

Has anyone else tried this, I am wondering what results other people have got...

Just make sure you have a good grip on the wheel and don't be afraid to fight the force feedback thats what it's there for...and you can turn it down if its too much in the options menu.

All the time. Especially with "forgiving" cars like 4wd's I tend to be quicker -unfortunately- with DS3 than with the DFGT.

The only case I remember being considerably faster with the wheel is the FGT and the contraption known as X2010.

Well I have been playing Gran Turismo with the game-pad for years and years and sometimes you really can not teach an old dog new tricks...

If you can't keep a car from spinning i wouldn't say you have the hang of the wheel. That's probably contributing to your slower time as you can probably react faster with the thumbstick.

the only track the wheel pays off is nascar tracks... for the rest i get a better time with a controller

I think its all about getting used to the fact that you cant go on to full lock immediately with a steering wheel like you can with the DS3.

Ok thanks for your opinions everyone.. is there actually an option to lower the rotation of the wheel instead of 1 and a half turns each lock, and I am really not sure why I cannot control a car that is about to spin out, and I suppose I am even struggling and find it frustrating!! :ouch:

Maybe your better off using a DS3 then

Don't be afraid to fight the force feedback back.
You won't break the wheel, don't worry.

I just picked up a DFGT and am having similar frustrations. If you check the results of the Nissan challenge, every round 2-3 qualifier has a wheel. I could not find one person who didn't.

you have to control your accelerator too.

not to mention that all ppl with a wheel have way more fun than ppl who play ds3!

The wheel WILL eventually give you faster lap times. Your driving style will become much smoother once you get the hang of it. With the controller it's almost impossible to make incremental changes in steering and throttle. The wheel gives you a much wider range. + Manual tranny really helps too and is easier with the wheel ofcourse.

It took me a while to get the hang of the wheel too. Keep playing with it.

WRONG !!

ppl with DS3 have as much fun as ppl with wheels :P

btw look at the rankings in the actual Seasonal 9 Time Trials at Autumn Ring.

did you ever play the game with a wheel? you wouldn´t say you have more fun with a ds3 if you did so...:sly:

Try setting the wheel to Simulation, PAS on and FFB 1 it maybe the resistance on your wheel slowing you down .. just a thought.

I have the exact same problem, I dunno if it is the DFGT or just me not using it properly. I blamed it on the wheel coz I only had mine for 2 days and then had to return it because it was faulty.
I am currently waiting on another wheel getting sent to me but I am thinking of cancelling it because as soon as the cars begin to drift I can never recover it with the wheel and always crash.

That's exactly what happens.. xP

I will probably keep using the wheel though even if I never get the faster lap times I am looking for as it is definitely more fun than ds3!! :dopey:

Plus an extra thing to add... I didn't buy the wheel for faster lap times, I bought it for more fun.. 👍

i think i'm slower with wheel quite often too, but it's a whole lot more fun with a wheel. And until we have some kind of leaderboards!!!! I'll stick to having fun. ****ing no leaderboards! Absolute joke!

A good starting point is to hold the wheel at a quarter to three ... You never have to go past 180 degrees, so cross your hands and keep a firm-ish grip on the wheel ... This will make fast left & right turns very easy to achieve, and if you catch it early enough, quick movements here will save you. Turn in to correct the slide, and then straighten the wheel again quickly.

You never have to turn the wheel past 180? Are you sure about that?

Yeah, the wheel is much more realistic especially with the force feedback and more fun.
What I've noticed is that counter steering quickly enough is not the problem, it's when it grips when the wheel is turned the opposite way so u spin out the other way because of over-correcting it.

The only time you can go full lock with a DS3 is when you are going very slow, like 0-20mph. There is a steering limiter that is progressive as you go faster. This is easy to see in an open wheel car. Grab an F1 car and run about 100mph and deflect the stick on the DS3 all the way and you will see the wheels will not turn all the way until you slow to almost a complete stop.

The wheels like DFGT, G25/27, etc. are not limited like the DS3 controller.

True, obviously if you are at around 100mph and you fully move the analogue stick it only turns the wheels as far as they can go without losing traction. With the wheel though, if you overcome the force feedback you can turn the wheels past this point and you get epic understeer. So with a wheel it is only the feedback that (tries to) prevent you from turning to full lock.

Even at Monaco I never gone past 180degree lock, I have raced every track on GT5 and I rarely go near 180degrees.

Cool, just so I know that's all as I didn't know if full lock etc was worth it.

Same for me, what is confusing though is that the official gt5 wheel (DFGT) has a 900 degree rotation. Lol

I know it does I have one :P

But you'll never see (in 90% of touring car races) those guys going past 180degree rotation left or right (Unless it is a really tight hair pin but like I said, even at that hairpin in Monaco, I might not even get to 180% rotation to get around it)

there are some situations where you actually steer more than 180 degrees in a race. think about turning the car after you lost control of it. you do turn it to like 300 degree and hit the gas flat so the car spins faster.

while drifting i sometimes steer way more than 180 degrees. i´m still practicing, so mby i´m wrong, but that´s what i have experienced. also in rally events you have to turn more, too. it´s rare, though
