I'm only allowed to stay up until 10:30 on schoolnights, and I'm 13 :yuck: And to make it sound even worse, I'm homeschooled!

10.30? Im expected to be asleep by 9.30. :grumpy:

I know a girl whose mother almost strangled her

Anyways, even reading through these stories gives me chills, and makes me regret anything wrong I've thought about my own parents. Being the same age as you, I'd say, wait until you've finished school, THEN move out!

As the title would state I have a rather stressy mum. The woman is to be polite a wee bit crazy.

For example:

  1. She screamed and shouted at me for burning toast
  2. When it was a bit more overlooked years ago my brother once refused to get out of bed to go to high school and she punched him in the face
  3. She counted 6 items on my bedside table not 4 which is the number of items apparently allowed, the two unscrupulose items where my phone and keys. hmmmm
  4. Wouldn't let me play for a football team because she said if I get injured, she won't get an insurance payout, and if anyone knows me, I love playing football
  5. Oh and I am not allowed out when its dark, I'm 16.
You can put up with it.

She cares about you.
  1. Toast shouldn't be burned
  2. Missing one day of high school puts you behind and makes you do more work. I would've done the same thing.
  3. That one is weird actually.
  4. That one is stupid.
  5. Do murder's happen in broad daylight? No, not really.
Maybe she's a little crazy, but she's just doing what she believes is right.

Though you can do whatever you want, she can't stop you.

I thought my mum was mental in terms of that.
You are not alowed to stay on the computer past 6 and bed is no later than 8.30 was the rule in my house till I was 15 then the bed time was 9 then after I left school I am considered normal and able to live like anyone else.

Also any friends I have I get the question are they drug addicts?

Wow, this makes my parents seem completely laid back. They're strict but fair, which is nice. 👍

ten o'clock bed time for me on a school (sixth form really) night and im 16 :(
Although by reading these posts, i didn't realise how lenient (is that spelt right?) my perants are

When I was aged 9-10 my bedtime was 10pm unless I watched the 10pm news with them, then i could stay up until it finished. It was quite a clever bribe to get me interested in current events. :p

On the whole I've been pretty lucky by the sounds of things. Sometimes a little strict and controlling in certain respects but generally quite fair. I think they realised I was a fairly sensible teenager.

I haven't had a bed time since I was 12. As long as I get up in the mornings my mum doesn't care when I go to bed. I'm really surprised by how strict some parents are in this thread.

My parents are pretty much like that. The best thing though, is that they don't really care if I swear at school, since they know every single kid there does it.

Same here really, I usually go to bed after my parents have, sometimes at 1am. I always have an alarm to wake me up in the morning though, which screams at me so I have to get up..... Guess what it's my mum.

Just for a comparison. My parents are pretty strict in many cases and very focused on authority, which now, doesn't matter anymore anyways because I'm 23 and well trained physically so they know I give two ***** about what they say.

But else they were very very good parents as they always let me do what I wanted, I was always allowed to stay up longer and stay outside longer than anyone else, and the thing is, I NEVER and I mean never did anything stupid, and I also know I'm a very fair person and the last one to attack somebody.

That just proves that giving liberty and trusting in your children is important.

Quick mother update: Last night she told me that I was deffinatly going to fail this geography exam, which accompanied the turning off of the playstation mid championship race. Oh and she said the she is heartless to turf me out so if such an instance happens, a room wouldn't go unappreciated GTP users ;) . The exam in question was actually ridiculously easy. Woman has no faith :D

It's fine pal you cannot argue with psychology can you

I do have really good parents, they have been soo relaxed. I was once late home by 1 and a half hours, i was grounded for a day, and that was the only ever time i have. The thing is with unstrict parents some people abuse it, and do whatever they like just because they can. Yet if they are too strict it causes some to want to rebel against their authority, forcing them into bad decisions, and to do things they wouldnt otherwise have done.

My best friends dad was very strict, i knocked on his door, he went to walk out even though he was grounded. His dad grabbed him and threw him against the wall. If anything this encouraged him to go against his Dad even more.

My brother Went out once while on holiday in tenerife without telling my mum and dad. Did Not end well to say the least

I have to say, I have a great parents. I may have been scolded at least once or twice a month, that's all... Never been grounded.

Just a couple of weeks ago my brother got a terrible, and I mean it, terrible exam results so my parents were very, very angry. But if I'm a parent, sure I understand it too... Otherwise, they're awesome!

10.30? 9.30? I'm allowed to stay until whatever I time I want, but I'm usually asleep by 11.00 on Weekdays. I think this may be appropriate:

So? It's much better to let the kid find that out for himself. Punching your kid in the face, especially for something that trivial, is parental abuse. The end.

Maybe she's a little crazy, but she's just doing what she believes is right.

This. While most parents (I'm not including actually crazy parents like Type S Tony's in this...) may seem out to get you at times, they are just doing what they think is best for you. They're way over-protective all the time because, well, you're their kid, and although I don't have the maternal experience ( ), I know that the responsibility a mother feels for her children is second to nothing (although in this day and age, it seems parents are caring less and less for their children. :indiff: ).

My parents are great; when I was in middle/high school I was usually supposed to be in bed by 10-11 on school nights, but it didn't matter on weekends. I've never been grounded, and I've really only ever been in trouble a handful of times. They do tend to require every single detail about where I'm going when I go out and can be annoying/forgetful occasionally, but that's not that big of a deal. They have a great deal of trust for my brother and I though, and that's a huge plus as a kid.

My mom is 45 minutes away, working or going home. I sometimes get calls to go home, rest and get ready for tommorrow. Then when she visits me, I get lectures that I am at my age and each day that is waste is not allowed.

I have to be in bed by 9:00. I'm 16. Enough said.
Ouch  with being in bed my parents are alright  although one night at about ten thirty my dad made me turn my lamp off so i had to drink my cup of tea in the dark
