I'm currently trying for the NASCAR Special Event on GT5 cos I want the trophy..

Problem is, no matter how hard I try, I just can't manage the last race on the Daytona track, drafting doesn't seem to have any affect whatsoever and as soon as I start turning on the first corner they totally leave me. By the first checkpoint I'm around 2.5s slower.

All driving aids are turned off.
I'm using a controller.

Am I doing something wrong or am I just not good enough to get up to 5th on this race?

Just a comment. I was so psyched about all this writning about the last Nascar special event that I was afraid to almost try. I kinda prepped myself for a long time to do it :scared:

When I finally tried I golded one of them on the first try and the other after a maximum of 5 tries with DS3

So I'm sorry to say that I don't see the big problem.

I'm not saying that I'm an expert. I struggle with lots of events for example cone slalom and FGT races but I thought this one was easy :)

i got gold on all the nascar specials like others so it is possible, best advice is to check youtube for a vid,
there are two cars in front of you at the start as i recall, on is faster and will pass the other, follow that then hop to the next one which i forget now

there are more vids

I was never able to draft on the 3rd car up as shown in the vid and was probably still in 10th by turn 2 on lap 1.

What worked for me...
Keep your turning and movement minimal when you're in the first turn, avoid contact with the wall or others cars, and try to keep drafting through the turn. Once you're around the first turn, get tucked behind the 3rd car up, regardless of your range on it. You should still draft there if you made a decent first turn, and by the time you reach the second turn on the back-stretch, you should be gaining on the now-slowing lead group. Drop low in the turn (enough to avoid them), and only let off or brake to avoid contact. Try to find a car you can draft on through the turn. You should gain a few positions just doing this. Then stick with the pack and pass the rest of them on the next back-stretch going into the last bank/turn.

Make sure your ABS is off as well.

Yes, this seems to be crucial. I was stuck untill I did this.., I golded the whole event in 20 minutes after I turned ABS off. The car will get al little more "twitchy" but you can take more speed out of the corners.

The key is to draft AT ALL TIMES. You need to use the first two cars to slingshot up the track and build speed to catch the rest of the pack. If you don't slingshot past the first two cars using the drafting technique you won't do it.

Yes ABS off make all the difference. You don't have to break anyway.
But I will be interested to know why ABS would influence speed. ABS is for braking !!!!
Most of the time I keep ABS on 1. Maybe if I remove in some special or licences it will make a difference and will help for getting some Gold on the one I struggle.

Turning ABS off disables ASM which greatly reduces cornering speed. And using one of the AI cars as a drafting partner is pretty important in this challenge aswell.

Thanks for all your replies guys, this is the last event that I need to do to complete all of the special events, I even golded the ENTIRE AMG driving school, so I can't be that bad at driving..

I just seem to struggle soooo much when it comes to driving these NASCARs :(.

I'll try turning off all assists and just keep trying it until I eventually master it. I've managed to beat the same track on the NASCAR races, but that was probably down to my car having a bit more power due to an oil change, "wearing in" and racing softs...

Yea i'm having problems with this too. The first race I got 4th, then gold the 2nd and couldn't even place the last one. I'm going to try again tomm with ABS off. thanks for the info

Still can't manage it :(. Even with all assists off and watching YouTube videos on how to do it, it just doesn't seem possible! I guess I'm just not cut out for it..

I'm stuck on the last two Nascar challenges, the one where you exit the pit and the same one as the OP. I'll try again tomorrow with the ABS off. they are the only challenges I have left besides the on with the X2010.

When drafting around corners at high speed, remember you need to place yourself into the draft by taking a higher line around than the car in front of you. If you hug to the inside of the corner, you'll be out of the draft and will fall behind.

Turning off ABS will make a huge difference The other key is to draft properly. With ASm on the event on Daytona is near impossible. Turning ABS off disables the ASM or you can turn off the ASM from the IRA once the race starts. Either will have the same effect.

In the Pit exit event it is best to get out into traffic right away. Also drive bumper view with the rear view mirror so you get a good view of what is behind you. If you get out into traffic in the right spot you can force one of the other cars to bump you hard from behind and speed you up quickly taking 5th place off of pit road then tuck in behind the other cars to get the slingshot around them. After running this a few times and getting a feel for it it is actually pretty easy.

Indy is the easiest of the three. Key is to draft on the straights for speed then move to the inside before the corner, tap the brakes and shift to third gear. Take the corner tight to the inside careful not to hit the other cars and you should be well ahead by the second lap. I usually can't even see them in my mirror by the finish.

The last one I find it best to tuck in behind the Jimmy Johnson car early and follow him until you can overtake. Then draft off of whoever is close and can boost your speed.

In all three races avoid the outside of the track near and in the corners it is easy to get pinned, hit or pushed into the wall. The bottom of the track is much safer. Also once in front on Daytona keep an eye in you mirror if a car is coming up on you fast move over in front and make him bump you just make sure you move over far enough to get a good solid bump and not a bump on the corner of your car else you may spin out.

I'm having trouble on the Special Event as well. Perhaps I should try to disable ABS & do the other tips you guys supplied & see if that works.

put the active steering to the max(i know it sounds weird) then make the controller sensitivity -2 and draft ALL THE WAY. It took me total of 4,5 hours and millions of brain cells, but i did it now, the last nascar race, i won it... The hardest race in the game for me..

Anyway, tip: try to get to draft for the third guy in the row, u should be able to do that in the 4th corner, then go flat out and perfectly drafting behind him, when done right, u will get to turn left, and pass the first 2 guys, from that, its just ride perfect and block them.

Good luck!

I'm stuck on the last Daytona event in the Gordon Racing School. How do I turn off the ABS? The lowest it goes to is "1".

I managed gold in the NASCAR series championship, but I can't do any better than last place on Daytona. Fortunately it's easy to take first place in the first four races so the Daytona race becomes unnecessary.

Having said that, I still try Daytona every once in a while and it seems that when I get going in a race and get a good position a few laps in, some jerk will come in from behind and knock the rear of my car out from under me and send me out of control (the last attempt I was in the middle of the pack and another car came from behind me, hit my quarter-panel and sent my car airborne).

Since we can't turn ABS off any more, is this now an impossible challenge? I have bronze on all 3 of the Advanced NASCAR Special events, and I was working on getting Golds.

After much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, I turned ABS up to 10 and golded the lot! I can't see any way that that could have helped, so I guess I just got lucky.
Another option is to delete the game, re install, and do the challenges with ASM off before you reload the updates. (But man, there's so much patch data to download all over again)

DONT DELETE PATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you will get a not enough room on hard drive message

The problem is that you live in England.
If you lived in USA, you would only know how to make left hand turns, and be good at it.
But since you live in England, you only know how to do both fairly well.

luckily i have the US DLC for it so i can use the fantasy one with extra HP

I got a unfair dq I was passing first cleanly on the 3rd corner of the second lap.
Checked the replay no contact.
How many tires can you have outside the yellow?

ABS 10 has helped, I got Golds on the first two within about 30 minutes, but the last one takes a little more work. I almost had it earlier, but I had to give up for now.
