Struggling when Traction control is set to 0-1

With some cars, driving without TC (or TC set to 1) is no problem at all, while other cars spin out at least once / lap. Countersteering doesn't work, as soon as I start losing the back, it's too late, not possible to correct it anymore.

Is there some setting I should change or would a good tuning setup solve my issue? Or do I need more practice?
Do we all have issues with this ?

In previous GT's and Project cars I could drive any car without constantly losing it.
 
Yeah, the tire physics and force-feedback aren't good enough to make counter-steer-correction feasible, unfortunately, so it's wises to keep TCS at 2 or higher with most cars.

It also bugs me that TCS cannot get turned off completely. IRL, if one steps completely down on the throttle in 1st gear from a standstill with a 500+ HP car without traction control, the wheels will spin immediately, but in GTS, there's a weird lag time of around 1 second before the wheels start spinning.
 
Im glad im not the only one either, my self esteem is ok again :p

I hope its a kind of bug and they fix it, tc on 2 is just too much. I miss semi-drifting through corners. It was great in previous gt's, why did they have to change it :(
 
Pre patch I'd agree but cars are perfectly fine now. This isn't arcade where you mash the gas, sometimes you have to be careful, apply smaller amounts of throttle before hitting it full on. Takes some learning but perfectly doable.
 
The most tc I use is 1, partial setup, partial skill. I use a fanatec wheel setup so you can progressively throttle up much easier. And I can save it if I exaggerate the throttle on exit. You have to be gentle. Like picturing a raw egg between the gas pedal and your right foot. Lol. You also need be aware of each vehicles power band. Of it hits power at its highest rpm limits or builds it on its low end etc. That determines how you apply throttle exiting a corner.
 
I have no problems catching slides without TC, its possible. Play with the diff settings if needed.
 
TC-0 with a G29 in the GR4 cars has posed no issues with holding long slides easily,
the GR3 cars are a little more of a handful, but smooth inputs and you're fine.

I haven't actually played with the latest patch to compare,
 
There are definitely people driving fast without TCS but I can't do it atm. I mean, I can drive laps below 1:57 around Nurb GT but with TCS I put a top10 lap. I have a T300RS and this wheel has had some issues with GTS since launch. I'm not sure if people with Logitechs and Fantecs get different feedback while driving without TCS tho.

It's pretty frustrating tbh. Because it's not a matter of controlling the car, but a lack of feedback to even know where the grip is at any given moment. And the speed loss out of slow corners is noticeable (with TCS) when I race against people who don't use TCS.

At this point I don't know if my steering wheel is broken, if the settings are wrong of if I just suck at driving without TCS in GTS, given I have no big issues doing it in other games/sims.

Sadly, IRL, recovering from an 80mph spin just ISNT going to happen. Race cars aren’t drift cars. Drift cars have increased steering angle, jacked up Ackerman, and ridiculous spring rates and rubber. There’s no hope of drifting or “saving it” when you get too ambitious with that right pedal... some cars spin more than others because it takes a highly honed in sense of speed, and muscle memory like a horse to modulate the throttle. Most of this could be dampened a bit to get more throttle and brake modulation out of the pedal throw, but PD didn’t give us that option.

I'm using a csl e and the feed back is crap. No loading unloading of tires and no tire spin effects. So I use tire squeal audio and the visual aids plus lots of practice. I'm running the Porsche gr3. And I'm consistently fast with some tuning and strategy. If someone wants to pass you in the first few laps don't bother battling them and save tires until mid race when they have pushed too hard and now have to deal with tire wear. Then you can set a pass and loose them or get an easy pass for a tire wear induced mistake. My qualify time is 1:58:something. But my car is also set up pretty stable for consistency during those last three or four laps
 
when you say that some cars are fine while others have the oversteer problem, are you talking about RWD cars only? Or are you including all cars in that statement? As FWD and AWD cars should suffer more from understeer issues if anything.

You could also try playing around with the roll bar stiffness to help iron out issues either way, and of course manage your throttle out of corners
 
I've just learnt to get used to TC0. I play primarily on open lobby Bathurst GR3 races and these rooms are always TC 0 and sometimes ABS off as well.

Personally I've noticed that even on TC1 I feel slower around the mountain so I prefer TC0 now.
 
Try putting the TCS up.... sorry couldn't help it.

If you're playing using a DS4, do remember that the pressure sensitivity on the triggers isn't as good as DS3 was and the face buttons are on/off only = not pressure sensitive. So might be a good idea to get a DS3 adapter.

The latest update was supposed to take care of the snap oversteer/exaggerated loss of grip that the cars get. It's only worked to a certain degree. You can recover it but the margin of error has only been adjusted so.

I should try the MX-5 again. That thing was uncontrollable without TCS in the demo.
 
Something is not right within the tyre model, I see a loss of grip at the rear wheels with very little throttle applied, the rear then rotates rapidly and is difficult to catch, this leads to treating the throttle like you have an egg underneath it as I am not sure what the car is going to do!

In the Gr.3 race using TCS at 2 adds confidence to throttle usage which results in a big chunk of lap time reduction, I went from a 1:58.4 to a 1:56.8 in qualifying with the V12 Vantage GT3.

Confidence and consistency leads to better lap times ;)

Quite agree and update 1.03 having removed a lot of the OTT wheel weight has highlighted just how much feedback from the track surface (some of which is also down to the lack of good track surface detail on just about anything but the 'ring), load transfer and tyres is missing or wrong.

Normally my tactile rig would also help provide additional 'seat of the pants' feedback as well, as the tyre sounds vary as the track surface changes, encounters msall imperfections, etc. However even that's missing for the most part, and the feedback is varying for the most part only with car speed. The exceptions being the 'ring (again) and the expansion joins in Tokyo, which unfortunately feels like you spine is being removed even in road cars.

Its not helped either by the TC system being a very basic, overly happy to engage, and quite unrefined one size fits all model.

Which again is compounded by the issues with the tyre model, particularity at low speed
 
G29 user here. There's a clear lack of feedback that's the issue here.. when I'm applying 20% throttle in 2nd gear with a 500hp gt3 car I shouldn't be spinning out. The cars feel dead compared to GT6, there's no sensation of the tyres losing grip or a loss of stability going around a corner. It's rather frustrating that in GT6 I could drive 99% of cars - with no assists except ABS at a reasonable pace - to having to rely on TCS with anything that's RWD.

The only time I feel like I'm not driving on air is if I hit one of the apexes or if I ironically go off track..
 
I race with 0 TRC and have no issues with RWD in Gr 4 and Gr 3 (apart a spin or two in practice sessions where I try to go too fast through a corner :P ).

Have you tried this:
1. Use the brakes and throttle at the same time to limit the rear tires. A technique used in Formula 1 to prevent power slides.
2. Change gear sooner so you don't have that much power/torque thrown down to the wheels (be careful with this in a hard turn as it might change the weight distribution and stability).
3. Be a little more gentle on the throttle on the exit.

The DS4 has more force feedback than my wheel does even on max setting lmao. As one reviewer stated it's like driving on bars of soap.. I can't sense anything my tires are doing whatsoever. It would be nice not to rely on auditory aids all the time so I know what my car is doing.
 
Oh, I was referring to the “suddenly the tires give way” comment. Because that’s real life when racing. I’ve had some crazy snap oversteer at the limit in actual racing. Wrecked my first Z that way.
