Dude, every time it snows, I break out my Excursion, and flip on the 4WD.:D

👍 :D

I used to take the triangle at least that many times, to School at 159th Street. Everyone would come to a complete stop, wait, and then start driving at tem miles per hour until Holmes, and then we were moving again.

My friend had a '76 Ford Ranger through high school with a 12" factory lift and locking hubs. Half of the school made fun of it, as it was easter egg blue, the previous owner probably sprayed it with a rattlecan, and it broke down all the time.
Everything changed when it snowed. He'd stay after school for a while giving people a tug. He pulled 9 cars out of snow piles in one day - 5 of them were Mustangs. He even de-iced someone's windshield with a blowtorch.. :nervous:

I had FUN in the snow in my old Saab 9-3. :D Once the back end slipped way out of control on US-69, and if it wasn't for GT rallying, I think I would have spun out. I was still scared to death. And, the defroster couldn't keep up with freezing rain. I was driving from my dad's house at Shoal Creek Pkwy and MO-152 to 151st st. and Alt. 69 via 435, and I drove the last five miles of 435 before Metcalf with a 16 sq. in. space that I could see through. That was probably the scariest 5 miles I've ever driven.

Turbo + Front wheel drive FTW. (In Winter, at least)

My old Lexus threw a tire tread in the far left lane of 435 in rush hour traffic by Arrowhead Stadium..

I'm currently sorta looking for a good all-season ride that is safe enough for winter here, but with a little "fun-factor" for me.

KC all but shuts down with an inch or more of snow. And almost as many people are off the road as are on.

Back OT:
Why do half the people try to drive 100 mph in the snow, and the other half wanna go 10 mph? This is why I drive a 4 ton SUV when the snow comes.
And I don't drive any faster than the conditions or my brakes feel comfortable with.

Answer:

Half of Kansas City residents drive SUVs of 4x4 Trucks.
The other half drive sedans or minivans, and are afraid of the possibility of their insurance premiums getting higher.

Anyone who lives in England wil have a rough idea what I am talking about here. I am saying this because there are so many american users on this sites, and I am not sure if they have any roundabouts on their roads over there. Anyway, 2 nights ago, me and my Dad were driving back home after visiting my Mum in hospital. Now, on this roundabout, you need to be on the outside lane to go straight on, but as we have crossed this roundabout, this man on the inside lane decides to go straight on, and cuts us off. My Dad had to brake to stop an accident from happening.

I remember those from my trips to Europe. I never really did understand how those work. My favorite was the one around l'arc de triomphe. That looked like total chaos.

Anyway, are those really safe? They seem to be quite efficient and relatively simple compared to a US stoplight. It just seems that there is a lot of room for mistakes.

I've met a few like that. What I find more common and irritating is lack of indicating on roundabouts. I get really irritated when I sit and wait for someone who enters a roundabout, only for them to take the first exit without indicating. Timewasters. What bugs me even more on roundabouts here though is that it is getting more and more common for people to enter into a smaller and smaller gap, forcing those who were already in the roundabout with the right of way to brake. It's not because they don't see you, because if you enter the roundabout faster, you get cut off less. So they're just being rude because they believe you will brake.

Another pet hate for me is people who see you coming, pull out in front of you anyway forcing you to brake, and then ease themselves gently up to a cruising speed well below the posted limit, and slower than what you were doing when they cut you off.

Actually, neither of those are examples of stupid driving, they're examples of lazy, rude and selfish driving. Stupid driving is when someone who has the right of way voluntarily stops to surrender their right of way to someone waiting at a side street and let that person join the traffic. It's not stupid in a traffic jam, but I've seen people do it even though there was noone behind them! The waiting car could have joined traffic as soon as they had passed (which would have been quicker, and predictable). They are just demonstrating that they don't actually have a clue what's happening around them.

That is an everyday sight on Hugh Grant Circle, which is a roundabout that surrounds a train station. It is a hassle in that roundabout, because of so much grumpy NYC drivers getting away with anything, a guy ran a red light here in front of a cop and the cop just kept driving, ignoring the guy acting like they ain't see him.

Also what is the point of having traffic lights anymore? It seems like people never ignore the traffic man when he says stop, but they run red lights all the time.

I have new story that might top them all (of mine). Yesterday my friend from school who just go his licence offered me a ride to school. So he pulls up with 20 mins to spare (takes 20 mins) in a 2005 mercury mountaineer (v8) with a few of my other friends in the car and before I know it we are going 50 in a 25. I can deal with the steady speeding but what came next was frightening.
Coming up to a busy intersection he floors it and drifts this suv filled with juniors in high school nearly into oncoming traffic. In my head I pictured all our pictures in the newspaper and a story about teenage drivers. We go to a local store and get bagels and energy drinks and get to school on time:yuck:. Walking to class I was shaking. There were so many highly illegal traffic offenses I can even say! This is the kid who just bought a 450 horse '88 trans-am and is adding more things on to it. Luckily its in the shop getting ready to be driven.

A word of advise here: Walk to school at least he might not hit you as you walk.

Walking with my co-worker at my local Target with a line of carts. A driver in a hunter Green car decided to go 20mph in a busy Parking lot lane. Small note, I was in the middle of the road and talking to my co-worker on what we should do and I was wearing a Safety vest that is orange and has lime yellow lines on it. The car nearly came inches on hitting my left half of my body, being a person that kind of spaces out, I never noticed that the car passed by me until the driver stopped and asked if I was ok. I didn't know and just nodded my head and said " Have a Good day Miss" She was scared and drove off.

Another story:

My third day of work and I was in the same lane as the story above. I took a single step and saw a driver going at least 30mph in a parking lot as I quickly moved back before the side mirrors almost hit me.

If Washington D.C. is bad New Jersey is a nightmare.

I've been to every one of the areas frequently mentioned as having the worst drivers in the country - New York/New Jersey, southern and northern California, Atlanta, etc. There is no question in my mind that Washington DC is the worst by a wide margin. There are things that go on there that you simply cannot and will not see anywhere else.

Like what? When driving south through Kentucky and Tennessee on my Dragon trip I noticed that myself and my buddies just did not get along with the other states' drivers on the highway. We were almost in 3 wrecks apiece. People changing lanes at the same time as you and all that. It hasn't once happened to me at home.

It's probably because their license plate weren't red white and blue, which threw things out of sync.

Thanks for the PM by the way. Verrrrrrrrry appreciated. I thought it was going to be something of importance.

:p

And I've seen these things happen personally. They 🤬 flip you off when you pull over for an ambulance to pass!

:-)

It's amazing, in a 3 and a half hour journey today from Norfolk to East Sussex I witnessed some of the worst driving I've ever...er...witnessed. (It'

*Edit* Whoa, that's not good. Lemme try and fix this up a little bit.

So, I'm rolling today on Kansas-7 about to get on I-70 when I hear a Harley cruising up behind me.
The dude was not so much a stupid driver, but he made me laugh so hard I nearly hit the car in front of me.
Picture if you will, a big macho guy with a black leather jacket riding along on a Sportster with open pipes. (Got that?)
Now add a lavender backpack...

In Kansas no less.

That made my late evening. 👍

I've come to notice that while Minnesota drivers are impulsive and NEVER signal, North Dakota drivers are a further advanced form of Minnesota driver. Advanced as in age. EVERY PERSON her drives like an old lady driving to the mailbox in her gold 1987 Chrysler New Yorker with the landau top. And they have no highway sense. they go till the very end of the on ramp, and come over, whether of not a peterbuilt is currently occupying the adjacent strip of blacktop. They also do this at thirty miles per hour. It amazes me. And here I thought Missouri drivers were bad... :p

In NY, they never pull over for cops or ambulances... When I was in Boston and a cop came down the street, and the traffic parted like the Red Sea, I was like What... the... 🤬...?

We are pretty good about that. Everybody in Seattle pulls over until they hear sirens. Fortunately we have the sense to take advantage of teh space behind it and everybody goes charging after it once it passes.

Yep, they really are. If you want, I can explain to you exactly how a roundabout works!

There's a roundabout in my dad's neighborhood in Liberty, MO.

It+E320 = Fun

Ambulances would seem to kill everybody just to save one person. Also cops like to take control of the streets, they run red lights, then turn on the siren for a split second to make everybody brake hard, turn hard, or accelerate just so they can pass one light. Also people always go in front of me when I drive, making me want to go into road rage mode. Also I get people beeping as soon as the light turns red, so they can pass a red light too. And I thought India was bad for driving. 👎
