Getting it soon!
Hi all, newbie here, but I've been Gran Turismo since GT3, and am now at lvl. 22 on GT5, but I bought the SE of GT5 and I know this is of topic but I live alone and can't afford broadband, only wireless prepaid dongle thing, and I must say Playstation suck, we should have a option to use any internet connection we have, now I have the code for the chromeline car's but don't have the specified connection to use it. :ouch:

It's a little disingenious on your part to blame Playstation for your financial troubles don't you think?
In order to play online you need a decent connection that is not new, you should have informed yourself of the requirements beforehand.👎

Broadband must be really expensive in Aus.. It's a matter of priorities I'm sure. I've got 60/20 mbit, and i work maybe 1½-2 weeks every month as a cleaner..

It is expensive here and until recently (for me atleast) our data download caps are a joke.

Its not about expense, its about location. Some places in Australia, broadband is not available but definetly, overseas connections are much better 👍

I don't mean o give you a bloody nose or anything but too hear that any industrial country in 2010 can't provide broadband to 99% of the population is well.. Odd really.
In Sweden a town of 1000 people can get 100/100. I think maximum service is like 1000/100 for a private resident, and it's getting faster every year. Not that I see ANY use for that at all. Soon our hard drives will be the limit over here hehe. We're launching something called 4G (Cellphone technology) here at the moment starting out with the 4 biggest cities. Which means 80Mbit IN YOUR CELLPHONE(!). I don't live in any of those, but it's there and working. I've got 3G myself with a 6Mbit connection for 1Gb, and then it's restricted to 1Mbit after that 1Gb.. But who uses that much on their cell anyway :)

/edit, what I really meant to respond to was the fact that TS could not afford it because he was living alone. Which made it sound like it was very expensive.

We never said we can't, it's just expensive compared to other nations.

I feel I need to clarify a couple of things for you as we, South Africans, have a similar problem.
It is not a case of not having the technology, the problem is mostly that our countrys are VERY large compared to European countrys and with far smaller populations, so to roll out superfast internet to a couple of hundred people that live 1000km from the nearest big centre is often not feasible.
If you happen to live in any of the big cities here ie. Johannesburg you have the same infrastructure as you would have in Europe.

I've got a lot of friends who use the wireless dongle thing to connect their PS3's to the internet. Although a little laggy, they even manage to play games online without problems. Seems like a personal problem.

Certainly. But on the other hand there are far smaller countries with similar infrastructure with slower connections. But it should be said that Sweden is almost in the lead when it comes to connection availability and speed. I believe Holland is up there as well.

At any rate I sympathize with these people. When I said i had 60/20, what I actually meant was that I'll have it by Monday. I've been more or less without internet for 2 months. Right now though, I'm using tethering via my cell lol.
Which of course can't be connected to any PS3 as far as I know, and even if you could, then I would not have any connection to my computer.

I suppose you could have a satellite connection anywhere, but that's hugely expensive :o

Where abouts do you live mate? Broadband hardly costs anything, unless you're in the country. Either that or you are still a child/teenager and your parents take care of that stuff..

For the solution, just take your PS3 to some place that has internet and a screen for only once and you are set. Couldn't be that hard to find such a place, unless you are living with a tribe.

I'm in China and thought at first a 3MB (or something, I'm not too sure) connection would be too slow to race Europeans and Americans and others, so far I've not had problems with lag or ping or anything. It's quite cheap and is the fastest line in the city. (It's a very big city too!)

Well said. Im on do broadband 3. 10mb downstream and 1 meg upstream yet in some games like GT5Prologue or Tekken 6 the lag is TerRrible! GT5's one of the better ones. I used 3g to get online for two years before that, thats flatout terrible. It is unfortunate though, that GT5 is very internet reliant, for those in out of reach people. Australia and South Africa suffer because both our wireless gateways to PSN is via servers in the UK. Prologue is a good example of that, it said its ok to play online with a 512kb line downstream..yet I had heavy lag at 10mb. Europe, U.S have localized servers to play. Both S.A and Australia DESERVE local servers. Even the sig edition was avalible at both, even with the competition entry card.

There's so much differences between fixed line and wireless connection (3G, CDMA, and such)
I'm using the cheapest 384kbps fixed line and connected properly,
But my friend using up to 2mbps 3G connection, but he always failed when matching online

can't you bring it to a friends house with internet and get the cars and do the updates there?

Haha, wow, people sure get worked up over a little remark/rant. I've been too busy working late hours to check this, and a lot of you'se are right, internet is cheap over here, anyways this was my first time putting up a post, so forgive me for being newb-ish :sly:

Even then it's strange there's no DSL available. I live outside town and cable is not available here. But DSL is. I don't see why there's always a phone line, but no dsl possibility in some areas.. Even if it would be slow 128/64kbit it would've been better and should not be so expensive..
I can get 20mbit max for a couple of coins a month (€20 or so), while the ones in the village can get 120/120mbit from cable..

Who are you with? Telstra are offering 200GB a month for something $100

What a joke.. €20 internet here is limit free, and afaik since 2006 there are no providers with limits anymore..

Actually mobile broadband in Australia is faster that that, Telstra leads the world in it. The curious thing is that the OP says he can not afford a fixed BB service but mobile BB is FAR more expensive. Go figure.

There is a plan to install a national fiber network but it is being debated by people who say that our current broadband network is all we will ever need, even when many people and businesses cant even get it.
