I would like to earnestly thank the makers of GTPlanet.net for the fabulous message board and service they provide! I think it is a fantastic resource of information and an excellent way to meet fellow enthusiasts of the Gran Turismo series.

However elated I am about the board I am often puzzled by the aggressive and uncalled for remarks of the members when someone tries to make a new post. Most people are very giving and answer any and all questions, others take the opportunity to yell at the person for not using the sacred search button.

I think there are some deficiencies that cause a lot of these problems.

1) Some threads have become so large that they are unmanageable and intimidating even with the search button. Mission hall is *** and DFP problems just to name a couple.

2) For new member's getting used to the board the layout takes a little getting used to.

My suggestion is this - add a few sub-forums to help filter some of the more serious threads. Here are a couple examples

1) DFP sub-forum - This would be entirely about using and abusing the DFP. Instead of having 2 or 3 threads that are 50 pages long let's have a forum just for the subject.

2) Mission Hall sub-forum - Yes I know many people have finished all the missions and are sick of hearing "How do I complete mission ...." "Where are the video's to mission 34??"

But mission hall is a challenging area for those of us that dont have 5 hours a week to play this game. And sometimes we just want to ask - Hey guys what are your thoughts?

I think the idea of a message board is to get feedback from fellow enthusiasts. Now if I am a week behind most other people why does that mean my rights to live feedback are denied?

So in conclusion - would it be too difficult to add a couple more forums and maybe stickie the best stuff at the top of the forums? And if you dont want to answer a question - just ignore it instead of jumping all over the guy who just started GT4 and has a perfectly legitimate question.

Cheers all.

Thanks for the good words.

However, this forum is already a very complicated system - there are over 90 subforums I believe; adding more is not the best idea.

Also, the real problem is that the people who will not look for things, will not look no matter how easy you make it for them. There are FAQ stickies at the top of most boards. These are often ignored. Most popular threads stay right on the first page of the board index. These are not noticed.

This is the kind of user we're up against, and this is the kind of user who gets treated rudely. 98% of all users, new and veteran, never find themselves in this situtation at all.

Could it be funnier that this post got moved?

I understand the frustration, but a little patience by all parties keeps the world a better place, no?

Yup, 96 sub-forums, last time I counted. Lots.

What I've noticed many people don't realize is that you can actually search by post instead of by thread—you can easily wade through huge threads and find information quickly if you search by post.

divide and multiply...i dont see the problem with forum growth, just get some more moderators for the sub-forums

i like the idea of the DFP and mission hall sub-forum

Quick example: There was a thread about clutch kick on the GT4 drift forum. Then, a few hours later, while that thread was STILL on the front page, someone posted another thread about clutch kick.

Some people just won't read anything. Even when it's right in their face.

While your ideas are not bad by any stretch of the imagination, I doubt they would settle much of what goes on with some of the "noob" threads. People like to be "spoon fed" (Duke, I'm so going to use that line as soon as I get a chance ;) ). So they will do what they want until they get some resistance. Then they might actually start reading/searching.

Although I am almost always hesitant to add new forums, I see where Mission Hall and DFP forums, specifically, could be of use. I will have a think about them and I may add them soon.

With the now common 150+ members online at any given time, prehaps it is a good idea to filter them into specific areas. I still think there needs to be a way when people create accounts to verify they have intelligence, because no matter how much guidance you make available, it's still up to the user to educate themself.
