Scaff, you certainly know your stuff.

But yeah the cars that i thought were successful for rally were the toyotas that had the 3s-gte motors in them.

Toyota has a very good track record when it comes to rallys (better than people give them credit for), but for volume of wins (at an international level) you would be very hard pushed to beat the Italians.

Fiat and Lancia were a major force in the '60s and '80s, with the Lancia Integrale winning six WRC championship.

Toyota did push very hard with the Celica for many years, have some wonderful footage on DVD of a first gen Celica in the WRC. Looks like a box on wheels, but god is it flying.

No argument here, the '91 Corolla I liked though, had some more smoother lines all around.

Thanks for all the 037 pics, truly great car, though I still can't decide whether I'd like it with the rear spoiler on or off...

My choice would be without the rear spoiler..

Stratos, have you played Colin McRae 4, its got the 037 in it along with a load of other group B cars and a group B championship mode.

If memory serves me the group B cars are:

Lancia 037
Lancia S4 Delta
Audi Quatro
Pug 206 T16
Ford RS200

Well worth a look

Haven't bought it, though I have seen it in stores near me (surprisingly) I was thinking of buying WRC 3, would you say I should go with CMR 4 instead?

Nice pic of Armin Schwarz's crash at Germany by the way.

Difficult one that, must confess I've got both.

WRC 3 for the stages and CM4 for the cars, even worse I would not say I play one any more than the other.

If I had to make a choice, I think I would got for CM4, better range of cars and wider variety of surface on a single stage, tyre choice realy does matter.

personally i would go with peugeot. they come into the championship when you least expect it and they take it by storm 206, 306 maxi, 405, to the cinque turbo, magane, all the way to the 307, these cars are phenomanal...............though i still have a soft spot for the Lancia Delat Integrale HF W.R.C. but peugeot as a team still know how to leave theire mark.
as they say in italian :
mi Bambino
you guys are going to freak out at this picture, oh well:

CLICK ON THIS!!

I never seen a rally racing Datsun 240Z. But now that I do, not a bad machine. I wonder how a 4WD 350Z would do.

Now you all have to help me out on this one. Has there ever been Skyline R34s in rally? I seen one in a magazine covering Rallisport Challenge for (sighs) XBOX. I know the Skyline has fouw wheel drive and all, but has it ever competed? By the way, I guess you can say Lancia was the best in the past, and Subaru the best for our time.

It was succesful in its day, the car in that picture (No.11) won the 1971 Safari rally, crewed by Hans Schuller and Edgar Herrmann.

I have a 1/18 scale model of it by Kyosho that has an amazing level of detail (down to having each and every HT lead and a throttle cable), mind you it did set me back £40.

I am not aware of any works R34's being rallyed, but thats not to say that private entries have not occured. I've seen an RX-7 in a rally, so an R34 would not surprise me.

I would not, however think that it would be that competative, mainly due to its size. Its to long and to wide in comparision to most modern rally cars. Rallye-cross would be a better environment for it in my opinion.

I did however come across this:

A 1982 Skyline DR30 RS rally car, currently on sale in Australia for $8000 which sound pretty good.

As for the 350Z, being FR would generally make it uncompetative as a modern rally car, but if one were to be fitted with a 4wd its possiable.
Highly unlikly for a private entry due to the cost of converting the car in comparision to starting with an Impreza or Evo as a base car. I think this would most likely need works backing to happen.

Don't get me wrong this is a car that won world championships; it was not however one of the most successful rally cars ever.

It was however one of the most influential.

Still a very close run thing between the Mk II Escort and the Lancia Integrale as to what was the most successful. In terms of WRC championships the Lancia still has it.

I agree with most that has been said here but I as favourite rally cars are concerned I just love the Quattro with it's massive 5 cylinder block, the 037 with it's italian looks and being the last of the FWD to really compete in Group B, the Delta with the compressor and turbo by being the beast that noone controled ( the one that came the closest to ever dominating it was Toivonen). A car that has not yet been mencioned here is the Porsche 911 turbo and it is one of my favourite cars of all times although it hasn't been that successful. 👍

Hmmm...did a little bit of research on the subject, and apparently the Skyline R34 was never homologated to Group A or Group N standards.
Translation: It never ran. At all.
BUT I can tell you the R32 might've.
