Jordan, is there any way a feature could be implemented in which you can view a page and see if anyone has directly quoted you recently?

For instance, many times I won't realize someone has replied to a post of mine until days later.

I realize that if it is urgent, then the user can always PM me and direct me to where my attention is needed.

However, I feel it would be a really sweet feature if it is feasible. It would facilitate faster communication and just be a helpful thing in general.

There's not any such feature in vBulletin, and implementation would be fairly complex.

Okay.

How complex are we talking?

I don't know a whole lot on the subject.. but I would figure all the system has to do is record the user name that is replied to everytime somebody uses the 'quote' button to reply, and then could log that on a page that tracks all of those 'cookies' or whatever they could be called.

I know that sounds simple to say and is probably a nightmare to code, so what are the programming nightmares to doing that?

It would probably take a week or two to implement and test, which is especially out of the question for such a feature so similar to the one already provided. Besides, there are so many instances of people responding to your post who do not use the Quote feature that I don't think this feature would prove very useful in the real world.

...Which is?

@ kennythebomb - I think a good alternative to that quoting notification system is that you subscribe to threads where you're expecting a responce. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than nothing.

Until about late-2004, you could simply search for your name (it's not a common word), and it always did the trick. It still works, if people actually call you out my name.

Subscriptions work, or just search through your recent posts.

Yeah, just subscribe to any thread where you post (I think this can even be done automatically, or am I thinking of another forum?). It's not quite what you want, but you can at least check all the threads quickly this way.

You answered your question there. It's more than common for people to respond to a post without actually quoting it, thus making new post notifications more effective than the alerts proposed here.

You get the option of automatically subscribing - all you need to do is set the option at the control panel.
