I want to suggest to Polyphony Digital, to fix up the problems with low frame rates in the game. I think most people would rather have a lower resolution than 1080p if it will give a faster and steadier smooth frame rate.

Look at metal gear 4 for instance. it uses a native res of 1024x768 and it looks beautiful. it also uses the ps3 scaler to scale up to 1080p.

I recken gt5p would look far better if it was running at that same res of 1024x768 and running at a constant smooth frame rate of 60 or even 100hz, and then upscaled to 1080p.

It is already upscaled to 1080p (1280 x 1080 -> 1920 x 1080).

And really, I think they know what they are doing.

I can only agree with smoothness being the most important, but If anyone knows what to do in graphics, it's PD team. Their games were always steady 60fps and although this time it seems complicated with HD resolution, HDR engine, 16 cars on the screen including interiors and drivers, I already KNOW that this time it will be perfect again.

Hmmm... Why don't you switch to 720p then?

I don't have any framerate issues at all on my PS3 running 1080p to my TV. It's smooth as silk.

What's truly pathetic is that I've seen recent commercials for an X360 Japanese-style combat game (I forget which one) where they had obvious framerate drops in the commercial!

The only frame rate issues I've had in Spec 3 is in the S7 test at Fuji. There is a slow down in frames at turn one on the first lap and also the final turn at the end of that lap. Smooth everywhere after that though.

Can't say I've noticed any problems in game on Spec III. I'm running at 1080p on a Panasonic projector.

I fear PD could reconsider about the number of cars on track and as a result decrease the number to maybe 12...

I dont hope this happens but it could be. Since months there are no more than 12 cars online although some event description states "16 Players max.")

16 cars are the minimum IMHO I'd rather like to see 20+

It only happens once in a while for me on 1080p, especially at the beginning of a race when players go off track (dust), oversteer (smoke) and punt (transparency), after that it's all smooth.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter but, sadly, i'm getting used to framerate drops, something I couldn't stand before these next-gen consoles and I think GT5P doesn't really have that kind of problems compared to other games so I guess they're doing their best.

Well I don't know about the technical of getting the best out of GT5, but I do agree that it isn't looking the best it can, not because of the graphical work that is done.
But because of the Rendering, there is annoying things going on in the View, On EX: Suzuka and Fuji! fences and well the middle part of the screen is often shimmering in the small details, and if you look to the Road textures when watching a replay ( in front of the car), you'll see lots of artifacts, :| and another clear error, is the rendering of dust, when the Camera gets it over grass and other veggies, ( You can see the rendering method used ( funny patterns) On some places like in daytona, you'll actually see some Graphical work spots that hasn't been executed very decent and surely with out the normal PD passion ( All matters, and all is equally important too gain the best results)

GT5 is the game that come nearest to the idea of a real Sim world view, But again the limitation or the lack of knowledge on where the limitation is on the PS3, they have balanced the game, and been taking some choices on which is the most important High Quality stuff and which is the low Q, and then executed it after that scale, I almost agree in all there choices but only almost he he.

Shadows is like the spirit in the landscapes and on living things it makes it more real, but EX: Eigar Nordwand No Shadows on spectators ( argh that hurts my eyes ) but on the GT-HD version of EN they had shadows on beautifully shadows (balanced off) ?

Anyways. Gt5 is tha Bomb, it's fantastic and PD also know that, so smaller details will get fixed on the way, Or not! ;)

Well same goes for the whole developing of GT5, I almost agree ;)

I hope for Multiply Monitor setups on the PS3, and with GT5 supporting it, But first after they have fixed the View in general, they could also work on a rendering filter, that can make a scrambled view, like the view most people are watching motor-sports through and It's actually (Broadcast quality) If Gt5's amazing beautifully clear Picture is like DivX'ed, it would probably look even more real in the view ( You must agree that some environment smock, mist ( peoples waste) could help in some of the tracks.

What's really strange is that I had most of the above described issues before the last update , now its completely different. Online is really smooth now... no slowdowns or framedrops anymore, but timetrials, freerun, everything where Im alone on the track is horribly bad , frame rate is down and on corners it gets even slower ! ?
No big problem for me and Im sure PD will fix it.

Screentearing is another issue ( although many people dont see ? ) lol
Seems to be something with the PS3 itself ( graphics card?).
NEVER had that on PS2 !:(

I just wish they would add some AA to the game.

Which would result in even more slowdowns and screentearing :scared:

...thinking about it, I want custom graphic cards! LOL ... the game would still run with standart PS3 card, but with a better one you could tweak AA and Vsync, etc., resulting in a lot nicer experience:tup:

GT1 was not in 60fps. In fact, there was a special mode (cant remember the name) where you got to do a time attack on certain tracks I believe that ran at 60fps. I could of swore GT2 didnt run at 60fps also...

anyways, the new intro to gt5p has what looks like gameplay running at 60fps.

60fps>30fps hands down. for real. nobody argue with that. :sly:

The GT1 mode was called Hi-Fi mode I believe, and you had to win all of the major championships before you could drive it. If I remember correctly.:sly:

Oh so THAT's what that was! I was pretty young and therefore not much good at trying to race (and loved Dodge Vipers, but I think that was a GT2 thing, not gonna win much if all you ever want to drive is a fully engine tuned Viper whilst ignoring weight, brakes and suspension...) and so never quite reached the Hi-Fi mode. I remember it though. Eluding me with all it's elusiveness.

Wow, 1st time someone actually offending me (at least so blatant) on the internet... nice!
Or just a typo and you meant aces?
You do realise GT already has AA, no?

Haha I was like 7 at the time. I managed to win because I'd always pick a car that had like 400 more horsepower than anything else. I was a cheap driver when I was young.:nervous:

somehow my TV reads MGS4 is 1080p
Games like SOCOM you can upscale 720p to 1080p. When I pop in SOCOM, my TV reads 720p untill I change my options to 1080p

I think MGS4 is native 1080p

MSG4 upscales to 1080p (thus your TV would read it as "1080p"), but is 1024x768 native.

Frame rate on GT5P has been especially shaky for me since the latest update, even when running solo in arcade mode. Perhaps it's the cockpit view, I dunno. :indiff:

I'm surprised that some people can say they don't see framerate drops. I can clearly see them in replays of races when many cars are coming into the corner and there are dust clouds. For example S-Class races at Fuji or Daytona Road. And this is clearly visible, not only slight drop.

And in cockpit view of Ferrari California, just drive the main straight on Fuji or Suzuka and you'll see stuttering landscape.

Surely everyone is suffering from FPS drops? For example, the S class F40 single lap race around Suzuka. Man, at the start, it must be running at 20 - 25FPS for the first few corners.

In all honesty I've never noticed any frame rate drop and I've been playing a lot lately, on two different screens (Samsung HD 30" TV and Samsung non-HD 19" monitor), mostly Online.

It's probably just your PS3 malfunctioning.

Could it be a difference between psn version and blu-ray version? I never really paid attention to the led while playing.

Well, mine's blu-ray, but I don't think that's the difference. I seldom use cockpit view so that could be why I don't see frame rate drops. I seem to remember them in replays at Suzuka but I haven't watched replays there for a while and don't often watch replays full stop.

My PS3 was bought in the summer last year.

I really don't like the idea of plug-in graphics cards even if they were possible. If we go down that road I may as well get a PC.

the users who dont have tearing/framerate/picture issues...do you have a high end hd tv with 100hz/24p ? i have a samsung 37inch fullhd tv (60hz no 24p) and i ALWAYS have some slowdowns in gt5p..especially at the london track
