Hey, Jordan.
Great work with all of the new stuff.

A few things I noticed, or thought would be nice.


-It seems like the ability to see who is browsing a forum with you is only in certain forums. It might be that it only tells you if there are more than 1 person in the forum (someone besides you).


-People should, when looking at members profiles, be able to see an archived list with links to all of the threads they started, and there should be an avg. rating for threads they made that were rated.


-Polls shouldn't go to the top of the list of threads because someone votes. What you tend to get is like 10 polls on the top that people are voting on but nothing is being posted, which can be annoying.


-FREE EMAIL!!!


-More secret eastereggs to peak and rebuild interest from people who have over 1000 posts or just aren't intersted. One of the things, for example, I loved about this site was that you gained status names for posting. There should be other hidden things or abilities that people can gain. It adds to the fun.


-A personal quote field in the member's profile.

-Spell check for posts


-A customizable smily list for each individual. Each user could take 11 smilies out of the master list and make them quick links on the side, like the current default 11 are. This way if there are some on the main list I use a lot and some on the default quickies I don't, I could switch them. Did that make sense?

-When people have CONFIRMED times on certain courses (confirmed with pictures), have a thing on their profile that lists their best confirmed times. People could send them directly to you or you could devise some other systems. This way people could be "seeded" in intra-GTP competitions.

-The "See Today's Active Topics" thing doesn't really work. I don't even really know what it does. It should list the most heavily posted threads of the day, instead, it...it...what DOES it do?

Oh, I almost forgot...

Yeah, if there is not anyone else browsing the forum, it won't show anything. :)

It shows a list of all threads that have been active (either created or replied to) over the last 24 hours. Then, it sorts them just like a "normal" forum would do, by bumping up threads with the latest posts to the top of the list.

Given the name "Today's Active Topics", wouldn't it make more sense to have it a list in descending order of the threads with the highest posting volume?

Also...I just noticed that when you click on the name of the person who made the "last post" (on the main GTPlanet Forums directory) it frequently doesn't direct you to the right profile! For example, clicking on my on the GT3 forum a moment ago it took me to Speedfreak, and clicking on Talenless on one of them took me to

Well, it really is a list of today's active topics (threads which have been active over the past 24 hours). But, I see where you coming from. Maybe that would be best in "Today's Most Active Topics"? :D

This is because you are looking at a cached (or saved) version of the forum home page on your computer, which hasn't been updated with the latest information. And, that link isn't a direct link to the user's profile, but one that instructs the forum software to calculate who was the last poster in the forum, and then redirect you to their profile. It's kind of hard to explain...let me give you an example... :)

  1. You enter the forums home page, and see the latest person to post in each forum at that point in time. You see that "Joe" was the last person to post a message in the GT3 forum.
  2. While you're reading through the homepage, Susie posts a message in the GT3 forum, therefore making the info you're looking at incorrect.
  3. You click on Joe's username, expecting to see his profile.
  4. The forum software looks at who last posted in the GT3 forum, without any regard to what username was listed on your version of the page, and then directs you to Susie's profile.

YET ANOTHER THING: When you rate a thread, and give it a specified rating, it sticks there so everytime you post it gives it that rating AGAIN. That needs to be fixed because. . .

1) it will raise the thread's rating to an unfair avg.
2) people shouldn't be able to vote twice ANYWAY

No, you're not allowed to vote twice, but you can change your vote at any time. That's what is happening. :)
 
Man Stealth! I have not thought of one freaking thing to add to your suggestions. Already one of your ideas has been put into action!

Ill try and think of some. I like that posting idea ya got. :thumbsup:

MORE IDEAS

-If you can see what someone is doing in the "Who's Online" thingy, that should be a thing on their profile, too, so when you're viewing their profile you can see where they are.

-Everyone should have the option of the "no-peeking" status in the "Who's Online" thing

-There isn't a blushing smilie even though there's a blushing subject icon. The "O" smilie isn't actually blushing.
 
Great idea Stealth! You just happen to know the exact things I am agrivated with. Keep those suggestions coming man! :thumbsup:
 
They just keep coming...

We need a more comprehensive, all inclusive "strategy" section to help people play the game. We can include prize-car lists, "walkthroughs" for every track as to speed, corners, and how to race them, we can have "tips from the pros", we can even have an individual forum for each of the tracks just for tips.
Anyone else think a strategy section is a good idea?

This is just a small thing...but...

-Could you put a link to the "Who's Online" thing (where you see what they're doing) up to the top along with the "New Posts", "Active Topics", "Moderators", etc.?

You know, that is a pretty good idea man. It's a little crowded up there maybe it can be somewhere else? :confused:

Without giving away too much about a new project, I've made my own list and just called them something different ...

Who's Online? | New Posts | Private Messages | Today's Topics | Top Refferers | Moderators & Administrators

I've got a couple more in there and it's SHORTER (: I'll fill you in a little more when Jordan gets back to me on the project.

Well, it's about as finished as I'm going to get before people start making suggestions, and submitting their own creations. There are a few changes left, but here's my secret project
