A Golf is somewhat like the :censored:vic. Fun cars, and they're quite plentiful.

I'm looking for a car as well. In my area there's a several '70s Cadillacs for around $1K.. If I had a place to park 2 cars I'd buy them haha. Nothing like a Caddy 472 V8. ;)

Good luck on your search though!

Acura EL/CSX. :sly:

If you plan on getting a used car for less than $2000, I'd go for a Japanese car. Personally, my first choice is also a Civic, but I'd also look in to the Corolla.

Those are not available in the US. Canada only, sorry.

OP, just get a Civic, or a Corolla, or anything slow enough that won't kill you.

Want to learn a few things about fixing your own car?

Buy an MKIII Jetta or Golf. As German as you can get on a budget.

Lots of good Sentras under $2000.

If you don't mind rust.

Specifically the early 90s (B13) Sentra SE-R, later 90s (B14) Sentra SE or 200SX SE-R. The ones with SR20DE engines. Great little cars.

I recommend 2nd or 3rd gen Honda/Acura Integras. Even the non VTECs are fun. I still miss my 99 Integra LS.

I'm also partial to the Mazda Protege ES. You could probably find a 7th gen cheap.

Finally, the 2nd gen Ford Escort GT is a good little car.

I agree about the DC2/DC4 Integras. The Vtec models are fantastic, but the normal LS and RS models are fun too. The b18b is a grunty little engine. Not much top end, but the low and mid range can be fun, especially around town. Far better than any d series. They actually sound good too. Lots of induction roar.

I don't know what year of Protege you can get for that money. Last I looked, P5s were still $4k (not that I'm in the US or in market for a car)... but they're damn well worth the money. Useable back seat, nifty hatch, great balance, incredible steering...

Hey guys. Well I am just trying to figure out what I want to do about my situation right now. I turn 16 this year and after my birthday and Christmas, I should have enough money to buy a car. I really want a civic, but as my budget is tight (1500-200 most likely), I would probably have to hold off to find the right one for the right price. I really want to do coilovers and also at least a muffler if not a full system. The reason I am asking for advice is I plan on going to the Air Force Academy and I don't know if my parents would even let me take my car there if I do go. So, I just want your guys' opinion on all of this.
Thanks :)

Okay, so why do you have 4 threads? Each has given valuable information; there is no need for a new one...

Also, you need to be at least 17 to be even looked at for the Air Force.

Sure there is. I am close to figuring out what I want to do than I have been before. I have used info and advice from each thread and now I also know what my goals for life are unlike before when I just wanted a car.
Also, if you want to say that than I guess there's a 90% chance of me getting into the Academy lol

How many threads do you need for suggestions on your first car?
One.

Samurai - Please use this thread for all discussions on what you want from your first car. Thanks.

I think you'll be far better of in this.

Doesn't cost a fortune to nuy insure or run and you won't kill yourself in it.

You've got to be kidding me. 90% Chance of getting into the Academy? As someone who helped a mate go through this process, I can almost assure you that you won't make it. My friend is an absolute genius, and he didn't get accepted. Have you actually started the application process? It's alot harder than you think...

Who are you going to ask for your Congressional nomination? How are your Grades? What Extra Curricular activities are you in?

Ok so basically if I read this right you have posted some threads and now you have your life plan? ... Lmao

Sorry but you screwed yourself when you said you "want a ricey sound" you do realise when "rice" is used in the world of automotive it is a derogatory term...right ? I swear if you put a huge wing on a fwd.... HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU RICERS GIANT WINGS DO NOT ADD 85258$3@78%84$963 HORSEPOWER !!!

A Toyota Camry or Honda Civic. Both are cheap and reliable (so you'll be able to...rice it out...) and are fairly good learners vehicles. Low power (if you stay away from the V6 Camrys) so you won't get into to much trouble. Instead of wasting your money on a ricey exhaust and wing why not invest in a RSB, lightweight rims, and better brakes. It would make any FWD soooo much better.

Mazda MX-3 son.

Be original.

Oh, forgot to add, Volvo 240/740/940/850 are great cars. Pretty rare to find a manual though.
