What?! There are absolutely not supposed to be any advertisements with sound at all. Thanks for making me aware of this, I will see if I can track it down.

I sent him a PM the other day about a blinking, beeping ad. It says "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE THE 1,000,000th VISITOR! CLICK HERE TO COLLECT YOUR PRIZE!!!!" It makes the standard Windows error sound. 👎

You didn't specify that it was "beeping" in your private message.

Since this thread is fairly active I'll post it here. I don't know whether or not this is supposed to happen but in the past few days I've noticed several ads that are far more persistent than usual, I'll exit out of the first one and then two or three more will pop up at once. I understand that ads help pay for the site but such persistent pop-ups are what you would expect from a porn site (not that I would know anything about that). This is happening both at home and at work both with firefox3 and both with all the standard browser popup blockers on. Next time I'll try and grab a capture or at least get a name

That's what I was talking about before, Jordan.

Well, see, that's the reason these types of advertisements make me so upset. These annoying banner ads are actually not helping to pay for the site, nor were they ever authorized by me or the advertising network that I have a contract with. Let me explain how this works: a first "tier" advertising network provides the highest-quality and best paying ads. Once a visitor has seen all of the ads that network can show them, ads are displayed from another network of my choice (the second tier). This creates a daisy-chain and is a good way to diversify inventory. The problem is that some networks sell banner impressions to third parties who do not respect the restrictions I have set on what type of advertisements can be shown.

As you can see, this makes it extremely difficult to track down where an ad originated. If I did approve such ads, they would bring in more money, but at the cost of annoying my visitors. Now, in this situation, my visitors are being annoyed, and I'm not even getting anything for it! It's a lose-lose situation and is difficult to rectify. However, after some unhappy discussions with a particular network, I was able to opt-out of third party banners. Hopefully it will solve this problem, but I am not going to hold my breath just yet.

I just want to say Thanks for everything your doing on this site I for one don't expect you to solve these problem overnight. At least you do listen, read, and reply to complaints unlike some other sites.
This compliment come from the foothills of "The Appalachian Mountains" Bristol, Tn/Va courtesy of that :crazy:opelgt1969 guy:tup:

Thank you both very much for the kind words. Are either of the banners in question still showing?

Myself when one starts to make NorZeees (sounds) I found that I will just exit site and rejoin. At first I had no ideal what was going on all I knew was that pacman was roaming my PC:nervous: I've not seen/heard one lately will post time and ad if I hear one again.
Most of the time I keep my sound off on my PC cause I'm also watching TV.

OK. So theres this really annoying ad at the top banner, and the bottom one. Idk why but I keep on getting it, and it wont go away.

It's been here for 15 minutes now and I've moving around the site but it keeps on following me.

I believe I have also seen that one. I don't recall any sounds, though?

Please Jordan, I don't find this advert appropiate at all especially for the age of some of the people browsing this site. Its only recently that I found this advert popping up but its incredibley annoying especially when using quick reply as the advert is often located there too. The picture below is only showing you what it looks like and therefore I don't want to get into any trouble for posting it.

The annoying Pac-Man ad is still popping up at the top every so often.
Neither of these reports is encouraging, although it is virtually impossible for me to track down the ads based on the image alone. If you could click on them and tell me the name of the site it leads you to it would be more helpful. However, just today I completely terminated a contract with one of our advertising networks that I believe was serving this type of low-quality material, so we should begin to see some improvement.

Nice work, I'll keep an eye out if any of the annoying adverts pop up again.

Cheers,

I found it again whilst browsing this morning, I'm not actually clicking onto the link due to the fact I don't want to explain to my parents of what I've been looking at! Although I copied the link's URL and it takes you to Here. Hope that helps!

Well, I can't say for sure exactly where that ad was coming from, but I did forget to remove that "bad" network (the one which I terminated the contract with) from the rectangle banner rotation. As I couldn't find the ad running with any of the higher tiers, I must assume it was coming from them, so we will just have to see. The "Duck Hunt" ads that were making cursors flicker also originated from that network, so I hope this proves to be a good decision for many of you.

I don't know if this counts or not, but there is an ad where several large books come down and block the screen for several seconds, unfortunately I was again unable to get a screen shot since I was at work. Thanks again Jordan :)

Well, while they aren't exactly suggestive they are rather annoying. I was curious as to how long the Yes on 8 ads were going to stay up. They really are starting to bug me.

Can anything be done about the popup that comes up when I come to the site with the fat chick and the less fat chick with their shirts up and something about Marias flat stomach rule? Not cool when the gf is around, or not for that matter. I try to keep my thoughts clean.

Has anybody else been getting Indian date-to-marry ads? I'm not looking for an Indian bride yet, but thank you. :)
