So! Today I had an idea to host a 4 hour (or around that) endurance race.

I would hold it on any weekday in the holiday from any time between 11am and 6pm GMT but we can see what time fits most people.

I own a HD PVR and I was thinking about livestreaming the race with commentary.

This leads to great ideas but also problems, such as if I am streaming a race out, how would I host as the connection would be strained.

Also, I need a friend to commentate if I am to race. (Maybe I could get a friend to take stints with me and we commentate seperately in real life)

I have access to my brothers PS3 so I could use that PS3 to record the race but I am not sure if I could stream a race out and host.




So this is where you guys come in. I need a small team to help me with this, help me with ideas and help me run it smoothely.


I have a rough idea for the race itself, I don't want the cars too challenging, I was thinking something along the lines of an MX5 or Swift race, maybe multiple classes just to spice things up.

So, over to you...

I like the idea and could defenetly be up for this..

But 23.00 PM GMT is pretty late to start the race fore Europeans..
How about starting the race at around 20.00 PM GMT.. In that case, many Europeans and Americans can enter the race. Just a suggestion. 👍

Cars: I'm thinking that driving an MX-5 for 4 hours would be extremely boring.. Depends somewhat on the choice of track though.
How about using RM/TC cars?
Like the Tuscan Speed 6 RM, RX7 TC and perhaps the Z06 RM.
Should be good fun.

Just a suggestion:
Leave the weather option out. It's simply not fun drving in the wet for 2-3 hours.. It really is'nt. I did a 3 hour race last weekend and a monsoon started about 60 min in to the race.. after that, it was fun initially.. But the last hour took all the fun out of the race.
What one could do if you'd like some wet is to start the race with 100% wet track and set the race for no possibility of rain.. The track will start to dry, and you'll get to use all compunds (Slicks, Wets, Inters). 👍

I'm keeping an eye on this.

Updated OP, I meant 11AM not PM... Sorry for confusion.

Okay, I will keep the weather in mind, I was going more towards a dry only track anyway. :)

Not sure about cars still, but yeah I do like the idea of using TC cars.

Don't know, but the longer tracks suit a 4 hour race better imo..

I personally don't enjoy Le Sarthe too much, Spa is a bit of a grey area as some people haven't bought it yet, Norschliefe is a bit cliche and might put people off and Suzuka I don't enjoy too much... :p

Laguna Seca? Nurb GP/D? Fuji? Monaco? Deep Forest Raceway / Reverse?
 
4 hours? :O

That exceeds my parents idea of how long I should be on the PS3 for by a good 1 hour and a half minimum. :lol:

Also I'd go for a slightly more oddball track choice as Sarthe/Spa/Suzuka/Nurb are all too common now. :indiff: Maybe something like Fuji would be good, especially with the run offs for when people get a bit tired. :sly:

If the time and day would suit me, i would take part.

About the circuits ; I would go for Fuji GT, Spa, or Nurnburgring.

Day could be any weekday in the holidays, will set a date closer to the time. I am thinking maybe mid August.
 
well as you know Dax I would love it if we ran vintage touring cars :D

I meant to vote for Fuji (voted Laguna on accident), because no one ever races there and it is a high speed, challenging course with two long straights that make for great racing, and that uphill carousel going into the downhill braking section is really fun. 4 hrs. because that would be a real endurance race, will take a lot of skill and concentration to go mistake free for a 4 hour stint.

For cars I have an idea of using GT1 race cars as an equivalent for late 90s Trans-Am cars:
Chevrolet Corvette C5-R
Chevrolet Camaro LM
Panoz Esperante GTR-1
Ford Falcon XR8
Dodge Viper GTS-R
Mazda RX-7 LM

The Camaro, RX-7, Corvette, and Viper were all represented in Trans-Am and Panoz and Ford were also in it with different cars, these are the closest equivalent in GT5

This is my suggestion, any way the series goes though I am in 👍
 
I'd like to see the two classes of road cars idea. I find the racing with race cars isn't anywhere near as close. 👍

Would love Civic/NSX or MX-5 RX-8/7. :D
 
I've got an idea, fully modded 2CV's around Rome reverse with no aids(including ABS) and comfort tyres, it would be like the Snetterton endurance race, although they may use the infield now for it, but Rome Reverse would be like the pre-2011 Snetterton.:)

Make it Comfort Hards. ;) Really quite challenging to drive. Also make stock exhaust mandatory, racing one sounds rubbish. :yuck:

Mostly flat out, fast, not much braking involved.

As for the sound, I haven't raced one in a year and a half but I remember it being very fun to throw about among the modern hatchbacks in the Clubman Cup.:D
 
A short track with low powered cars would be good, something like Rome or Madrid with premium MX-5s with a bit more BHP. I'd be up for this considering the time and length (3 hours is the longest I can go).

But it doesn't exist as a track in real life. The roads are there, but it isn't a track. ;)
 
If we do a track like GP/D low powered cars are fine. We did a race at GP/D with Spoon CR-Zes (445PP) and Honda CR-Zes (Tuning Prohibted) in a split class event for nearly 2 hours and it was certainly anything but boring 👍. Btw we were on sports hard tyres for both classes.
 
Just a suggestion, but something I've been thinking about lately is what if you were to make a course creator track, but not share it with people. So people would need to attend official practice sessions to learn the track.

And I might be able to commentate with a friend of mine if you'd like.
 
How many of you would be doing this with a friend taking stints?
 
I wouldn't, if I can do it that is. :)
