Those that went to see Iron Man 2 may have seen this trailer. Being directed by JJ Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg this one should be good. I'm already hyped after seeing the trailer. Sucks it comes out next summer! Since I'm a hardcore Area 51 fan, this one appealed to me instantly. Plus, I love the way JJ Abrams directs his movies. (I loved Cloverfield, unlike most. And Star Trek was a blast)

Anyone else looking forward to seeing this? Here's a few screens I snapped while picking through the trailer. Lots of hidden stuff in the trailer.

could this be a sequel??? Remember the finish of cloverfilm (below the bridge, filming the survival...) and if i remember right that was a super8

If they can redo a marketing hype like cloverfield, this will be huge

This has nothing to do with Cloverfield. (a sequel is in the works though)

These are from the only trailer that they have released. I went through it frame by frame. :sly: Some of this stuff you can't see just by watching the trailer. It has to be picked through. JJ Abrams is known for hiding stuff in his teasers a normal watcher wouldn't usually catch.

Sure thing questionning about your screencaps is the boy. What does he do there? the 2 first pics seems to be the train wreck, and then the boy....
 
Are you sure now that this isn't the prequel to Cloverfield...? It does look a lot like it'll be leaning in that direction.
 
JJ Abrams name on it is enough for me to give this film a wide berth. He's a talentless hack, even worse than Zack Snyder.

I honest to god hate his style of story telling and not just because he butchered Star Trek cannon.

I can't think of anything he's done that makes sense or where he actually finishes telling a story, everything is left hanging and nothing has to have any logical basis to it.

Fool me once with Alias, shame on you, fool me twice with Lost, shame on me.

It's not. Cloverfield sequel (or prequel?) is still in the works.

I thought it was a very well filmed and sequenced piece of cinematography and special effects coupled with fairly lame acting, dialogue and story. Was interesting to watch but I won't ever watch it again.

I'm a huge Trek fan and to me it was obvious they made a film for none Trek fans so it wasn't my cup of tea. The whole red matter nonsense and Romulus being destroyed was typical Abrahm's artistic license.

Abrams' problem is that he concentrates far too much on the big picture. He's too concerned with the overall storyline, and doesn't really have any short-term story arcs. If ever a question is raised, chances are, it won't go answered. Another question will simply be asked on top of it. This results in characters who just drift through the season, fulfilling kep plot points and moving on. I actually enjoyed ALIAS to begin with, but when I realised they did a full reboot after every season, I lost interest pretty quickly. Probably because everyone felt like they had a set quota of double-, triple- and even quadruple-crosses to fulfil by the end of each episode. He tells some of the most convoluted stories I've ever heard.

And I do recall guessing that the characters in LOST were trapped in purgatory after about three episodes.
 
Well, I am a Star Trek "fan" (not extreme, but have seen all episodes of ToS, TNG, DS9 & Voyager at least once) and liked the JJ Abrams movie too, still haven't seen Cloverfield.

That trailer above looks interesting, although that style really gets old to be honest.

I really enjoyed the first season of both Alias and Lost. They lay the ground work for something that feels like it's going to be really well told and interesting. Then somewhere along the line you click that it is being made up as they go along. They're like less ironic Eerie Indiana episodes.

As for what the truth to Lost ended up being, I stopped watching it after the 'bombshell' at the end of Season 4, Episode 12 because it just made me laugh out loud at how much of a farce the show had become with the constant attempts at obtuse plot twists I had at this point give up thinking would ever be linked together.
 
Thank god I never watched Lost, every single friend of mine that did told me they'd rather erase from their memory the last episode.

Cloverfield was a good film, fresh and well paced - I think the the actors being like that was well conceived.

Lost, I didn't bother with after a few episodes and it became apparent nothing much more than teasing was goiung to come out of it.

Star Trek I thought was fun, but I'm still reserving judgement about the destruction of Romulus - Hell, Tarantino killed of Hitler early...so maybe it's a new style thing.
 
I thought Cloverfireld was ok just, and i'm not expecting anything special with this new one from JJ, only thing special about it will prob be the loads of special effects in the movie, lol!

sorry for the negativity folks, but with teh amount of complete rubbish coming out of hollywood these days my hopes and general views on them aren't very positive

While I will agree with you, the problem with Hollywood today is that they insist on filming crappy sequels and re-makes. I'm looking forward to Super 8 mostly because it's an original film much like Cloverfield was. Finally something different for a change, plus with Steven Spielberg attached it can't be all that bad.

This is because most films that get made aren't pitched by writers. They are ideas that get pumped out by studios, like "Hey, let's make a film about Sherlock Holmes", or "Hey, let's make a film about a cop stuck in a skyscraper with a gang of terrorists". Only a handful of writers and directors - Whedon, Nolan and Tarantino spring to mind - have the pulling power to get projects up and running all on their own.

Okay, I lost interest in Alias after a while, when I realized the story was basically going around in circles upon circles upon circles... and I'd always felt that "Lost" was entirely too gimmicky (as well as being incredibly, unbelievably illogical)... from the start... but in movie-sized doses, Abrams is okay... certainly not as bad as Shymalan... :lol:

Cloverfield suffered from too much camera shake, but was an interesting take on the classic monster movie, while his Star Trek reboot was very very good, considering that a.) it's impossible to recreate the original character synergies without the original actors, and b.) Star Trek movies have never been big on science fact, anyway.

This looks interesting. Might give it a watch. At the very least, it shouldn't make my head hurt as badly as Cloverfield (no camera shake! Thank you!)... though the premise seems almost exactly the same.

Okay, the pickup truck in the trailer hits the train almost head-on. This is a dinky little pickup playing chicken with a speeding freight train, which is no doubt armoured because it belongs to the US Army. Basic physics dictates that the truck will burst like a ripe melon, and the train will barely be slowed down. Yet somehow, the entire train derails in a series of mind-bending flips and explosions. The film is being pitched as a down-to-earth ET-meets-ALIEN hybrid, yet it ignores basic physics for the sake of a "cool" sequence, thus ruining its credibility entirely. The first thing I thought when I saw it was that it's exactly how Michael Bay would have directed the derailment sequence in THE FUGITIVE.
 
There's a psychic squid in the cargo hold trying to bust out... that's what derailed the train! :lol:
 
Expand your imagination for a minute 'ludes! :lol: It's okay if things aren't 100% "realistic" because if everything were held to that standard, it would ruin so many movies. Guess what? Donkey's don't look like this:

And who's to say what ogres look like? I've never seen one! I've never seen an alien before either, so I don't know how to tell how a realistic one should appear. Most importantly is that it doesn't matter because those movies are funny anyways. They're just for entertainment, my friend. It's not a documentary so get out your popcorn, leave the cynical hat in the car, and enjoy yourself. It's hard to pay attention to the good parts if your rolling your eyes at the ceiling the whole time. ;)
