Supercar Cup - Announcement, Interest, and Warmup Race

All right, it's time for another six-race series, but this one will use a different car (or multiple cars, in the case of two races) in each race, and I promise they will all be fast and on normal or sports tires. Yes, normal tires; many cars (like the one below) are very easy to drive on N2s or N3s, and are then much more realistic than they would be on S2s. But that's not to say all of the cars will be easy to drive. :sly: I promise they will all have their own handling quirks and be matched with the most entertaining tire type I could find. I hope none of them will be too hard for people to finish, as that isn't my intent. :scared:

If you are interested in the series, please say so in this thread so I know about how many racers I can expect, although of course you can run only the warmup race, or do only one of the later races if it appeals to you. Below are the rules, which are mostly the same as in the Caterham Cup, but with a couple exceptions. First, with no problems with cheating in any of the other races, I won't require any proof of lap times (and I admit that's partly due to me not being able to find any camera at all now :dunce:). Second, I changed the points structure somewhat to make a missed race less of a punishment.

Series General Rules

  • All six races will be run in Arcade Mode, using a variety of the fastest road cars in the game (including some tuned and concept cars; also, most cars will have stock power and -10% weight), and each will last one week, with a submission deadline of Tuesday.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; rumble strips are part of the track; no contact with walls allowed at any time.
  • Discussion of times in the race thread during the week will be limited to split times (T1, T2, etc.). Final times are not to be discussed and must be submitted to me by PM before the week's deadline.
  • Please save your best lap replay in case I request proof, which is unlikely but possible. Unlike last series, since there were no problems, I will not require photo proof of the winner. However, I reserve the right to request a photo of a time if I am suspicious of it.
  • Each race will award points towards the overall championship standings to all who submit a clean lap/race time, with the winner receiving 10 points, second place 8, third place 6, and fourth on down each separated by 1 point (5, 4, 3, etc.). No points will be awarded to a non-submitting driver. You do not have to announce your participation in the championship beforehand: anyone may participate in a race and be counted into the championship points, even if you do not plan on running all the races; similarly, there is no obligation to participate in every race. The driver with the most points at the end of the six races will win the championship.

So, onto the warmup race (not counted towards championship points):

[If someone is willing to be a picture fairy, I wouldn't mind a nice photo here :dopey:]
Thank you very much for the lovely photo, Denur!

Race Specifics

  • Arcade Mode Time Trial - hotlap
  • Power: 0% (550 hp)
  • Weight: -10% (1305 kg)
  • Tire Type: N3 (also known as RD or road tires)
  • Driving aids and transmission mode are open.
  • Hitting cones is allowed. All tarmac is part of the track regardless of lines and cones. Concrete areas outside of rumble strips are not part of the track.
  • Please PM me your final time by Tuesday June 9 by 11:59 pm GMT.

The Ford GT on road tires sounds scary, but I promise they have a surprisingly high level of grip, and the track is simple enough, too. It's meant to get you used to driving a high-powered car on tires representative of those I'll use in the series, after you've been driving a stiffly sprung motorized skateboard for a while. Have fun! :)

You, sir, are a mentalist! :p
Ford GT on N3s?
Sadly this week is out as I'm away on business, and will likely be back here again next week too, which means no race time at the weekend either so I can spend some time with Mrs. SH.

Will see what I can get done in the real races depending on where work takes me and how much time SFGTP5 preparation sucks up.

With exams and stuff coming up, I won't have time to put in as much practice for each week as I would probably like, but I should be able to get a time in. Consistent participation worked well for me in the Caterham, I'm thrilled with a third place on the championship podium! :dopey:

This is one heck of a warm-up race, a GT40 on N3's. :ouch:

Well, it is a bit getting used to and from then on it is quite a blast. 👍

T1: 24.209
T2: 48.497

I'm taking part to this madness :trouble:

And sorry for totally missing the caterhamn's :nervous:

I'm in. The one time I have a chance to beat Smallhorses would be this warmup race. LOL. Although practicing using MT with the recent GTPLMS race. Hopefully times will be better.

Indeed, as I said, the GT on N3s sounds awful, but when you realize you have to break early, the car actually offers some freedom in how you drive it; you can keep it as smooth as possible or you can slide it a bit, which is wonderfully easy to start and control in the S-bends after T1. This is all my opinion, though! I don't know whether you all agree with me on these kinds of things or not.

Denur, thank you so much for the picture. I really appreciate you going to the trouble of taking it and uploading it just so my thread can look nicer. 👍

Smallhorses, I forgot to say in the other thread that I sincerely appreciate all you did in the Caterham series to help me, from supplying pictures, to offering me advice, to participating every week you could (amongst these endless and probably horribly dull business trips! :ouch:). 👍

And MadMax, don't worry about not doing the Caterhams. I know you mentioned somewhere that you were really busy, and on top of the GTP_WRS, I fully understand. :) And don't worry if you have to skip races in this series; "real life" sometimes gets in the way for all of us.

OMG this is a pain in the 🤬, even on medium and easy

I'm not used to driving this car, let alone driving it in N3 tires. :ouch: Imagine the people complaining about the GT's "bad braking" ability on S2, driving the car with N3. They would get nuts

Austin343, I have a question to ask. The section before the T1, the tunnel, to be precise. There's a white line on the left side of it, no rumple strip until the end. Are we allowed to use the concrete on the left side of that line?

I was originally planning to make the concrete parts out-of-bounds, but I forgot, and I think it's too late to change it now. It doesn't make a huge difference, anyway. So yes, you can consider all hard surfaces as track.

Edit: I have improved splits now, with a final time about three-quarters of a second faster than before. I am now using the concrete in the first tunnel, but it doesn't account for very much of the improvement. Most of it was just cleaning up my lap, and there is still .3 or .4 possible for me to get, but I know I never will.

T1: 23.137
T2: 46.368

Madness!!!!! :D

T1 - 23.741
T2 - 46.776

Using only the actual track not going out of the white lines. Considering that I've been slower than Austin by 2-4 seconds in the Catherham Cup, I see no much improvement :indiff:

Sorta like the feel of the car. Same type of control as Misson 15. Could this be the same type of drive in real life? Sometimes I forget that going from 140 to 40-50 in a couple of sec. and making the turn on a dime might be a tad unrealistic. Haven't used the concrete in the first tunnel yet. Only put in about 10 laps or so. Plenty of room for improvement. Using AT too.

T1 - 25.089
T2 - 50.464

Found a few tenths here and there.

T1: 23.979
T2: 47.789

I find those first turns very very difficult. The number of times I've spinned either just before or in the tunnel are mind boggling, and that at rather low entry speeds.

I am quite surprised at the way I'm handling this track, for one that I have never drove in, except in the races where it is required to. I will go play the game now, and perhaps I will post some splits later.

Ford GT on N3's, Austin? Are you trying to kill us? Nevertheless, this looks entertaining, and on one of the tracks i'm actually good at, I can't resist! I'll also give this a shot later, got some schoolwork to do...

Finally put in another session.

T1: 23.499
T2: 47.467

It won't get much faster for me through the first two sectors. Maybe 2 tenth in sector 2, but that will be it. T3 could be a few tenths faster also, but not much more. Great times Austin (T1) and Raz (T2), I'm gonna love watching those replays.

Splits from my current lap:
T1 23.517
T2 46.963

I'm getting the hang of this finally, but lots of improvement left on mid sector.

Time submitted

Gained 2 secs @ the end

Did u guys ever experienced the ghost crashing on the replay?
Not on this times submitted but my previous run the GT crashed onto the wall right before the finish line.
But when following the ghost it seemed normal?

I think many people forgot to submit, but it really doesn't matter; it's only a warmup. Congratulations to the two of you that did submit, and I hope to see you all at race 1. 👍

Yeah, I think ghosts occasionally save incorrectly for some reason. I've had it happen before, too, even when it isn't for an obvious reason like going briefly onto the pit exit road at Laguna Seca.

Sorry I missed the deadline simply because I had no access to internet early enought for the deadline.

My full lap time was: 1'16.377

MadMax

I wasn't going to submit my time, simply because it was "just" a warm-up, and quite a warm-up at that!

This lap was with the posted splits:
1'16.736

Thanks to all who raced and didn't submit their times soon enough. The one time I will finish in the top three.

I'd like to thank the Academy, my Mom and Dad, and all the little people who made this possible.

On to the next race and a finish in the top 10?
