Somewhere.
As the title says, i was bored, and thought it'd be interesting to see everyone's tastes when it comes to cars we'll never get to own... Which are your favorites, and why? Hopefully this won't turn into a McLaren F1/Bugatti Veyron thread... :p

I'll start the thread by sharing my all time favorites, in no particular order.

The car i'd start with would be the Jaguar XJ220 . The original conceptcar had a V12 and was 4wd, but the production version ended up being a Twinturbo V6. Doesn't matter. It's still the most exquisite car ever built, even though it's well over a decade in age. It might not be the fastest car out there, not even the most agile one, but i just love it.

Also worth a mention, the Lamborghini Miura. Hard to believe it dates back from the late 60s early 70s, with those looks. I just can't find words to describe this one... It's almost magic.

Finally for now, the Honda/Acura NSX. Why would i choose a 290hp, V6 Honda? Well, for one, Ayrton Senna help set up the drivetrain/suspension. At the time of its introduction, in early 1990, Formula 1 had just ended the Turbo Era, and it just so happened Honda dominated that era, with, you guessed it, a V6. The NSX is Honda's way of showcasing what they learned during all those years. Looks undermotored and overpriced, doesn't it? Not really. At the time of its launch, in 1990, it was faster than both the 964 Porsche 911 and the Ferrari 348. When the 993 911 was launched, it was still slower than the NSX, for thousands more. Same thing for the F355. Only now, now that the NSX is a good 13 year old, does the 911 and the 360 Modena finally eclipse its performance, and not by much, suffice to say, considering the price difference. The NSX was (and still is) much more reliable and user friendly than the baby Ferrari could ever hope to be, and this nearly killed Ferrari (too bad it didn't happen...) who had to take dramatic measures to claim back the enthusiasts' hearts.

Furthermore, the latest NSX-R lapped the legendary Nurburgring Nordscheifle in 7 minutes 56 seconds, only 6 seconds slower than the Porsche 911 GT2, which has 160 hp more, and a chassis that isn't 13 years old. The NSX is unloved by many, and that makes it even better. 👍

Ive ridden in an NSX before, its really quite an experience. Ungodly smooth, and it feels like youre glued to the ground, and youre standing still, while everything is moving around you.

I do not know if i can say i really love any "true" supercars, but there are several past, present, and future serious sport classics that i love.

The miura is the only lamborghini that is truly worthy of praise (IMO), and one of my all time favorite cars. It was simply amazing for its period of conception.

I also love the ford rs200 just because its light, 4wd, mid engined, and accelerates like a monster (well in rally trim). I pretty much respect most cars designed with the idea of going group group b rallying, and one of the best of these would have to be the 959 (need i explain why). Its beautiful, fast, and held its ground against other cars for nearly a decade i believe.

I love turbo 993 porsches with or without 4wd, and this of course leads to my love of the RUF CTR2 and CTR. Both were awesome cars, and the most importantly both are surrounded by the legend of the CTR yellowbird.

Personally i think there is much more to a car than its style and its specs. While those are important aspects when designing a car, what really makes a car great is the character with which it is designed. I think the cars i listed each display a similar character while being very different in most ways. I love cars that rub me a certain way, which is something i cannot really describe. There are beautiful cars and there are monstrous cars, but only some can you fall in love with...

Oh i left off the porsche gt1 911 (993) and many many many more wonderful cars...

Tommykaira ZZII: For exclusive looks and performance and to trash anything this side of speed 12

TVR Speed 12: Cos the devil drives one (kept at German hosthausen )

Porsche GT2: To hear the best orchestra in the world nessled behind you

M5: To haul the misses around in style

WRX STi with Prodrive package: To wipe the grin off M3 drivers

Toyota Supra MKIV (RZ for you overseas people) - I'm into tuner cars and this is my favorite.
Nissan Skyline R32-R34 GT-R - same reason's as above
McLaren F1 - still holds record for fastest top speed in a production car and has not been beaten. Very respectful for a 10+ year old car. (yeah I went there), but it still hasn't been topped.
The Porsche 959. Unless you're a car enthusiast, you will know NOTHING about this car. Go read some books .
Porsche 930 Turbo - the start of one of the worlds greatest cars, the 911 Turbo.
The Ferrari F40 - Pure adrenaline on wheels. That's all I have to say.

As for "new" super cars i have much respect for the swedish supercar, the Koenigsegg CC. Its overal package is just as impressive as the mclaren (excluding those custom suitcases :D), and its lighter and more powerful. What really made me love this car were its doors .

not exactly a production car, but hey, still cool (Koenigsegg)

I just realized all of mine are old, so a new one???
the Carrera GT  and the Enzo Ferrari:drool: and the new 3.8L GT3

In no particular order and for many different reasons, these are the ten cars that I would like to fill my garage...

- Lamborghini Miura SV
- Ford GT40
- Lamborghini Countach LP5000S
- Ferrari 288 GTO
- Yamaha OX99-11
- Porsche 959
- AC Cobra 427 SC
- Ferrari 365 GTB/4
- Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R
- Honda NSX Type-R

But I tend to change my mind quite often;)

chaser: Any reason you chose the R32 GTR over the 33 and 34?

Mine would probably be:
Nissan R34 GTR - It's not a supercar technically, but it could easily out strip many a Ferrari when tuned just right
VW W16: No idea what it's called, but it has two V8s stuck together in a W16 shape. How cool is that!?
MG Xpower SV: Holy smokes, it's the batmobile! Except batman's car never came with factory fitted laughing gas and 940ish bhp as standard. It looks like it'd have any poncy Lambo or Ferrari any day too.

I agree completely with punk rock on those three. altough I dont really apreciate the nsx THAT much, its because I havent investigated enough of it, but it is one helluva car. the XJ220 is simply unbelievable, when I first saw it in some "dream car" book, I couldnt believe my eyes. not a fan of jags at all, but that car stands for the company alone. also, the miura, in an era when Ferrari hadnt even tought of puting a V12 in there... hell yeah.
1st_Lambo.JPG

those three I like, and Id also add the Countach to that equation, AND the Jalpa, a veeeeery underrated lambo (well, yeah, for lambo standars) but I think it is cool as hell. it screams 80s!!! so as the DeTomaso pantera. those three... ñiam :D
the jalpa:

also, from the 60s, the Monteverdi Hai, an italian designed (questionable design, mind you XD) sportster with a 426 HEMI mounted midships. chew that for a second. here is it:

also, I cant think about any car more beautiful than this one yes, I know, race car yadda yadda, but this thing is just too much.
MOBY DICK!!!!
EDIT: agh, fast autos wont let me hot link pics. well, this is the car:

Because, the R32 was a technical marvel at the time and set the standard for other Japanese manafacturers to follow. Without the R32 I wonder what the current crop of Japanese 'supercars' would be like? After it was released in Japan it remained almost completely unknown in the west for almost a good ten years after Nissan started production. And there's something about it's honest, 'function over form' design that still make it one of the sharpest, most purposeful looking cars on the road to this day. With the R33 and R34 Nissan continued to hone and evolve the GT-R into one of the most capable cars of all time. That's why:)

My favorites would have to be the NSX, The Jaguar XJ220, the Lamborghini Diablo SV ,Porshe Carrera, Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Countach, Dodge Viper SRT-10, and of course, the best car ever, the 1989 Mclaren F1:)

Ferrari F355
R34 Skyline GTR
McLaren F1
'97 911 Turbo S
'03 911 GT3

I can't think of any more right now that I want to add.

So many to choose from with so many valid reasons.

The 1970 Plymouth SuperBird. It dominated NASCAR in 1970 with its unique and extreme high wing. Powered by the famous 426 hemi engine this car alone won 8 of the 23 NASCAR races in 1970. In 1971 NASCAR had to re-write the rule books to slow the cars down and removed all "high" mounted wings from cars.

Ford GT40. Built in England to compete in the 24 hours of LeMon` race it proved a difficult car to drive but after a few years dominated the race as it was meant to. Its rear engine set up was considered a design flaw by many teams but as we can see from today's top cars that run in the famous 24 endurance race 90% are rear engine powered.

1966 Corvette Chevy needed an answer to the AC Cobra. It came in the resurgence of the Corvette. Produced with the now famous 427 engine GM took on the motoring world by storm. Also released in that year was the Stingray in a targa top.

Dodge Viper With an eye on LeMon , secretely, Dodge built a car that would be able to not only compete but win this famous race in the production car class. What they needed was a brute monster. What they built was the Viper RT/10. It came, it saw, it conquered. Winning the race in its first year this super car went from concept to killer in a very short time.

Nissan Skyline R32 GTR Nissan like so many auto manufacturers had a single goal in mind when it was drempt. Not only win the Japan GT series in 1989, but totally dominate it. It did just that. For 4 straight years the GTR rule the race circuits. In 1990 the GTR was nick named "Godzilla" an name that it has carried ever since.
