To make my post useful: I think it depends on the size of the screen, for example, mine is only a tad larger than the "optimal" 1024x768 (which ironically, fits perfectly my old laptop screen)
So it looks like a cleaner and better use of the space IMO since there were just two gray bars at each side whereas I could use that space to better read some text.
I don't know if that made any sense.
