Okay kwl thanks for explaining :) so would HDMI Audio & Video be best i would imagine? gunna pop to shop tomorrow to buy an Optical Digital Cable, How does the TV or PS3 Detect the Cable? cheers again ;)
Either way you do it is fine. The best way is the one that suits you. The signal is digital throughout, so there are no losses involved. But having said that, the most direct (purest) way is to use hdmi to tv for video, optical to surround setup for audio.
That way your cutting out the 'middleman' (the tv) on the sound signal path.
But you should not see/hear any performance difference either way. Purists may beg to differ.

You should have no problems with everything detecting the cables your using, as long as you switch to the right source on sound system when your using the PS3. Optical inputs may need to be assigned to the correct source on the AV receiver, but without knowing your specific setup its hard to say. Just plug it all in and see what happens. She'll be right. 👍

Last week, I bought a Home Cinema System from Sony (AV Receiver with 3 HDMI-in, 1 HDMI-out) I had to buy 2 additional HDMI cables, 'cause those seems to be never included in a package.. But then, I was ready to hook the system up:

PS3 via HDMI into AV Receiver
DVD Player (Toshiba Codefree with 1080p upscaling) via HDMI to AV Receiver

AV-Receiver via HDMI to TV

In my opinion, this is the easiest way to set up a Home Cinema System because only one kind of cable is used (HDMI)

Certainly the easiest way, yes, but i get the idea Marky264 does not have HDMI inputs on AV receiver.

the problem was my surround sound system didnt have an optical input,

i just went and bought some sony number that had all 3.

so now i have a perfect working philips surround sound system for sale.. who wants one?

Heres a link to my home theatre setup in a diagrammatic form. It makes thing a bit easier when your in the nest of cables 6 months after you last were, and you can't remember how you hooked it all up.
it may be of some help to someone.

(I haven't got the LX70 Receiver yet. Still on a 'non HDMI' VSX-2011D).

Bumping old surround thread.

I get strange sounds from the rear speakers in GT5P, sound is canny and really low bitrate (really dunno how else to explain it), tried the other surround setting (small theater and that), but no change, my amp won't let me change to stereo either since LPCM.
Every Blu-ray, DVD, game and everything else I try sound a-ok. I didn't have the time to test my equipment pre spec III so i dunno if it's after the update things got wierd.

It's mostly heard with the 512BB (wich by the way is a dream on Ferrari Suzuka online), the sound it makes from the rear speakers is unbarable...

Anyone got any ideas? I wanna play GT5P with 5.1! :(

Edit: PS3 -> HDMI -> Sony HT-SF1300 -> TV. Only output through 5.1

Strange... my surround sound sounds the same as before the SpecIII which is pretty good. Have you tried the different views? Interior, behind, bumper?

Yes, tried different views. Sound is better inside and in 3rd person, but i love the hood view. And it's not only when driving, race setup screen with car racing in background, music, everything sounds "canny" in the rear. :(

Edit: I'll install the Japaneseanese version tomorrow and see if that changes anything, gotta test the optical as well.

Edit 2: And if anyone knew how to turn off 5.1 completely, i'd love to know. Now I can't even play since i can't stand it.
And i got a PAL PS3 60 GB if that helps.

I've fixed your post for you, but please in future do not use the shortened version of Japanese, its a term that has definate racial overtones and as such breaks the AUP.

It only takes a few seconds to type in in correctly, so please ensure that you do in future.

Thanks

I am very, very sorry for that. I know the rule and has actually quoted and linked it on other sites. I'm sorry.

I think what your hearing is the induction noise through the carb trumpets (or possibly gear cam drives, tho not sure they have gears to turn the cams on these). It s essentially isolated to the 512 boxer in my experience. Nothing wrong with your system I would guess. I get the same irritating sound on my setup.
try other cars and see if you get anything like the same effect.

Hi Widar,

Your description makes me thing for Digital Audio overload saturation.
If the problem persist you can check the audio option inside GT5P and try to lower the sound balance.
Also test-check the optical sound output, as this could be an HDMI connection issue.

To disable multichannel output you need to go in the PS3 system preferences sound setup and check-disable the sound formats you want to avoid.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input. I don't think it's the 512BB alone, every sound is strange, but it's mostly noticable with it.

The strange thing is that only GT5P makes this, nothing else!

I'll test and see what I can come up with today and let you know if it improves.
Thanks for the input, guys.

This is real strange. I changed to 2ch in the PS3 sound settings, booted GT5P and use the "double stereo" setting in the amp to get sound from the rear. They sound great now.

Can anyone who has a 5.1 system please try this and see if it's only me;
Go into Arcade, choose Eiger, and when the screen of selecting game (race, time trail, drift) comes up, there's a crowd in the background making noises. Compare the front speakers versus the rear and see if you get any strange canny, metallic sound from the back.

I really can't get my head around this.
