Surviving Turn 1

I thought it would be funny to post my experience here for the grip racers to reflect on. When a group of a few people and myself join up at suzuka 750pp ( when it was around ) to drift we ALWAYS hang back at the start and let the pack go so we dont disrupt the competition of the grip racers. Every time or atleast 9 /10 times as we go threw turn one there is ALWAYS 2 or 3 people in the dirt after there old fashion ram and cram strategy. Personally i find it funny as can be when a pack of 3 - 4 drifters come threw that corner sideways tire smoke and all and the impatient guys ( or ones that got punted by impatient guys) are in the dirt probably saying to them self god i hate not having damage or other racers that dont act like children.

So untill pd decides to add damage or some sort of penalty system. Say if u get a guy that just dont care and rams u from the back the person doing the ramming should be penalized 4 seconds or so and the car that was holding his line and got rear ended should not move off the track. sort of like a thats what u get for ramming me kind of thing. Still scratching my head at why pd is taking so long to implement something so easy to code....

They should take the distance from corner and speed into calculation to make sure that the lead person isnt doing the brake check. The person in the rear if they have too much speed and are going to ram that person fine let them crash into the lead car but the ramming car should be ghosted INSTANTALLY so not to disturb the other legit racers behind them. Give them a quick time out and let the race continue. I dont see damage ever comming into play in gt5p maybe in the full release but as of now this sort of penalty system is quick to write up and will end all of the bickering.

Hugo makes a very good point. Brake earlier, but brake less. The exit from turn 2 (at Suzuka) is far more important than the entry to turn 1. If you're bumper to bumper with the guy in front, your exit speed will be determined by his. If there's a little space, you can get a run on him (or have time to react if you get hit from behind or he stops dead).

Turn 1 at Fuji is a lot tougher. At Suzuka, nobody wants to be in the kitty litter, including the punters. The run off at Fuji makes people much more willing to brake too late. I've found the best strategy there is to stay to the outside, and concentrate on hitting the apex and making a good exit. Most of the field will out-brake themselves and you'll pass them while they're trying to get back on track.

i usualy try to get on the out side maby even out side the track to not hit anybody
and work my way up the field afterwards

The first thing that I will do when I get to the grid is to look around me and see if I know anyone.I also take note as to what kind of cars are on the grid. You sometimes get the 1 or 2 drivers that think it would be fun to enter a 650pp event in a Swift. These guys WILL cause a major pile up at the start if you are not aware of there grid position, front row.I have been spening most of my time running the "No Mercy" event and I love to start anywhere. If I know the drivers around me, it's balls to the wall off the line, adjust my braking for turn one as to leave room infront and behind. Then I plan my attack for the rest of the race.If I do not know the drivers around me,I will try to get off the line asap, avoiding the slower cars off the line, and trying to move to the inside.Again, adjust my braking to avoid everyone, and attack after about the forth or fith turn. This seems to work for me as I ran about 3 hrs last night and was hit only once. What you got to do is to treat every race as a real one.Sure there is no damage yet but if you treat it like there is and you will damage your car if you hit someone, you will have a better abd cleaner race. One other thing. If you can get on a voice chat system with your computer while you are racing, you can talk to everyone that is also on it with you.You can warn about other cars and call out your passing moves so as to avoid contact. You can also time your race start so as to have everyone in the same race.A text chat helps get you all together witch is a big help to make the race more freindly.Try to use one or the other and your races will become a better event.:)

Just my 2 cents.

Lay back , let the dweebs go punt each other off ,then you should have clear sailing , you have 3-5 laps to race , so race these laps , not the 1st corner . 👍

👍 I think looking at everyone around you & what they are driving is the smart choice. Having been racing online now for months I know a lot of the online drivers and whether they will be fair or not, so that helps. But looking at what cars they are driving helps even more. For example i know certain cars will have very slow starts so i know to avoid them, while others i know are faster off the line so i leave space for them. In the first corner my tactic usually is go to the inside line, take a cautious approach, brake earlish, watch all the cars around me as well as a few further in front , hug the inside line & try to make sure not to drift wide out of the corners to avoid running people off the road. I'm a more aggressive starter in that i wont hang back, i like to make a few positions up in the beginning but being cautious helps alot in avoiding turn 1 accidents.

I used to launch slowly and get passed to not get punted, but still got punted 80% of the time, now I just bolt out of the line and go into and through T1 lke it's the last turn on the last lap. Found I get punted less often but do get in the inside grass a bit more.
