There is actually no rule in racing to say you can't swerve to break the draft. Your only allowed to make one move to stop another racer coming past you per straight but that's assuming they already have a good draft and enough of a speed differential to make the pass. It's a grey area to be honest and one that Hamilton tried to take advantage of, hence the FIA warning him rather than punishing him.

NASCAR drivers have been known to swerve back and forth at Daytona and Talladega on the backstraights to break the draft on the final laps.

It happens all the time especially in Nascar. Should the person in 1st place just sit there like a sitting duck and wait for the person behind them to wait for the last 1/4 of a last lap to pass them?
Now having said that even with someone swerving to break the draft it usually will still not work in most situations given the large area that draft picks up in the game IMO. It may at best give you a few seconds to play with toward the start/finish line but in my experience if someone has the draft and knows how to use it properly swerving just delays the inevitble for a very short while. However that shortwhile sometimes makes the difference between winning and losing.

I call people swerving to break my draft line smart.
Then those people who block are just ********.
Just do the double swerve if your the one drafting, go one side and then switch to the other, it is annoying when people swerve all over the place to block you though 
If that fails employ a nice pit manouvere instead and claim you didn't realise they would swerve all over the place

The problem with this game is, if you're in 1st place and there's a straight leading to the finish line and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place is behind you, chances are that you'll lose because the draft is... way too powerful ?
We used karts in Daytone and I've won 5 in a row just by staying behind the leader and passing him easily with the draft. I've actually won 1 race while being in 1st position, had to block 4 karts from passing me due to the stupid boost and draft.
And even if you swerve, they will still draft as I think the cars in the game produce a 100 foot wide draft... (sarcasm).
While we're at it, serious question here, can you actually draft in karts ?

I think it's to make the race safer. Just imagine a half dozen racers swerving left and right on a single strait, now that's just a hazard to the drivers. :S

Well I can see it become a hazard with other cars in the area, but if I'm fighting for a championship and there are only a few races left, then screw safety for a little bit.
I'm sure a lot of drivers think like that.

Re-read the post you quoted. It's blatantly obvious that he already knows you can draft in karts in GT5, as he talks of having won races by doing it.
Perhaps he was asking the more obvious question of can you actually draft in karts <i>in real life</i>...

Swerving on the staight to block the draft is pretty annoying. The way I see it is If everyone is doing it, Fair enough, but if its just one player doing it than I loose respect for that driver who seems like they would rather win that enjoy a fun close race.

Theres a big difference between 'swerving' left or right and 'moving' left or right,
If you're in the lead then why should you not defend your lead,
Should you just sit there and watch the cars go by thinking 'oh well'?
Its a legitimate form of defense as long as your not endangering other racers,
Its fair game in real life, so its fair in GT.

On my local kart track, no. Very technical track with no major straight. Its indoor as well, so effect minimised (no air movement).
I have been to a couple of outdoor tracks as well, 1 of them having a couple of substantial straights. It doesn't seem any faster when behind, but you do feel the difference between driving into the tow as opposed to unassisted... Maybe those who kart more professionally would know more, but I would bet the effects are less than those on GT5.
On the swerving topic, my opinion is that it is ok WITHIN REASON. I'm a McLaren fan so will stick away from the Malaysian case brought up several times already, however I still feel the same had it been a Ferrari driver getting out the tow as well. When racing AI I make sure I'm not giving them a tow, and being GT5 AI they don't follow me to the other side of the track. However online I imagine those with a bit of nouse would follow me across as well.
The reason is because the rule (in F1) states you may block an attacking driver once only, and then return to your own racing line. Taking away a tow is not blocking itself, but neutralising the advantage the attacking driver has. Saying that, I use other techniques to defend rather than zig-zagging straights....

I agree with the OP, it is definitely lame, though, if you know the person is going to do it before hand, you can exploit their sillyness.
I like to follow those on the straights as they weave left and right like a dope. I am mindful of the braking points on the track, so I make sure that i manoevere them out of my way or out of their comfort zone, to get ahead on the track. This is a very sobering tactic that can infuriate those with an elusive slipstream! 👍

Why should it matter to you: it's my GTP account, my own style
Anyways, although I never swerve on the straights, it can be quite fun following a swerving driver while trying to catche their slipstream. It's even more hilarious if he/she loses control
