I brought my ps3 to my brother who lives in another town and he doesn't have a HDMi compatible TV. Is there any solution to this. I don't get any picture or sound.

A temporary solution would be to tell me the buttons to push to change the settings in the options menu. I have the latest update! Thanks in advance!

I believe that holding the power button down on the PS3 for 10 seconds puts all the settings back to default (well the ones relating to video and sound), give that a go.

Hope it works for you.

Strange. I would check on the button combo for you, but I'm not at home (posting this from my dad's house on my PSP - I love my newest toy).

The reset trick I do know has worked for other people, I'm sure its the power button for 10 seconds.

Just found this for you

1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

Looks like I told you to hold it down for too long.
