Switching to Windows 7

I'm about to make the switch from Vista to Windows 7 and I wanted to know what I need to do to preserve my games progress when I eventually come to re-installing NFS Shift on the new OS? I'm not even sure if this is possible so forgive me if this is a dumb question. But if it is, any help would be much appreciated.

Wrong section here, buddy.

However, you can simply save your file to a flash drive, memory stick/card, and preserve it that way. Remember, Windows 7 by itself isn't an entirely new OS...it still shares a lot of it's coding with Vista, particularly the shell design. That's neither here nor there...and is getting largely off topic. :p

When you say I can simply save the file, do you mean the whole thing that is in the "Programs" folder?

I'm note sure where Shift saves its game files, but try and track down that location and simply copy the folder that the save is in. Then copy it to the same respective folder in Windows 7 and it should work fine.

No need to apologize, least of all to me. :p

If Shift stores it save files in the same manner NFS Most Wanted and Carbon does/did, then you'll find your profile save game right in "My Documents". If it's not there then snoop around in the root directory C:/Program Files.... (or D, E, etc...whatever your hard drive is mapped as) and it will definitely be there. Copy the whole folder, paste it somewhere that you can keep until you've finished installing W7.

....Wait.

Doesn't W7 have an easy transfer feature with Vista?

Easy transfer is really nice in 7, but if for any reason you don't want to use it, you can just backup

C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\NFS SHIFT\yourprofilename ("documents" is the same thing as "my documents" for our purposes)

You don't need the other graphicsconfig file in there, just the folder called whatever your profile is called, and the single file inside of it.
