For a few months now I've been watching a Japanese funny game show called Takeshi's Castle. Sorry if there's been a discussion already.

This is what it's basicaly about:
Each show is half an hour long and is commentated by Craig Charles (I think he was the host in the Robot Wars series) who I find really funny.

Each show has 100 japanese contestants that has to go through a series of games to get to Takeshi's castle where you can win some prize money. No one ever wins! Out of 25 shows only 1 contestant has won.

I'll describe some of the games to you:
Bridge Ball - this one it my favorite game. The contestant has to catch a golden ball and has to cross over a wobbly bridge. It's quite had because the Emerald Guard (which protect the castle) fire plastic balls at you at really fast speeds. Sometimes they get hit on the head or in the balls :ouch: and there in so much pain they just fall of the bridge. It's so funny!

Skittles - Some of the contestants have to dress up as skittles and a bowling ball get's pushed down a slope and hits the contestants. If you stay standing you go through to the next round if you don't you're out.

Skipping Stones - this game you have to run across some stones across water without falling in. Some stones are loose so if you step on them you're most likley to fall in. Sometimes they slip and smack their shins on the stones and it looks like it really hurts! :ouch:

This may not be funny to read but when you see the programme I'm sure you will laugh.
The only channel I know the programme is on is Challenge, channel 80 on NTL.

Please relpy if you've seen this programme! :)

I watch a show called MXC and they take Takeshi's Castle and dub the voices to make it funny and at the end they have the "Most Extreme Eliminations of the Day" which is the worst falls and such

It's called MXC here too, and it's the FUNNIEST show on TV. Kenny Blankenship's Most Painful Eliminations of the Day!! I love the log drop, where the contestants have to try to jump from one rotating log to the next to the next, etc. Nearly everyone falls off, and they almost always bash their heads or faces against the next log or else they get their legs and bodies bent into painful positions!

MXC!! YES!! I watch that show all the freakin time. Log drop is great. Skipping Stones is another great one :).

How about the game Avalanche. It isn't on very often but it's extremely funny. The best game I think.

High Rollers - and yes, it's an absolute classic game. They do the cartoon-style, legs-a-blur but moving nowhere run... Then plummet...

I've only seen it once, but my favourite game was the one where they run along the top of big giant domino type things. This guy lost his balance but kept going and smacked his chin on the platform they are suppoed to try to get to.

For the last two Xmas holidays is a row, Takeshi's Castle has been, for me, the single best programme on the TV... Over the holidays, Challenge TV go a bit OTT with there coverage of the great show, but it never fails to entertain, and makes the rest of the Xmas schedule look quite dull in comparison... In terms of the laugh-per-minute ratio, I can't think of a show that betters it... although, I must confess, that the laughs are interspersed with moments of Schadenfreude glee. My favourite show is the A-Z compilation of all the various games, but here in sort of preferential order, are my favourites...

1. Bridge Ball  (The shot accuracy is quite astounding... head shots are particularly skillful - but the sheer difficulty factor makes this my favourite)
2. High Rollers :D (The sheer determination of some contestants is truly breathtaking)
3. Skipping Stones :ouch: (This looks painful no matter how many times you see it - also the 'So near yet so far' factor is at work here)
4. Wipeout :dunce: (The easiest 'Are You Psychic?' test around... you can tell before they start who will end up in the water or not)
5. Dominoes :odd: (I can't explain how anyone has ever succeeded at this game, but they have)

Avalanche is the funnies game I think. Contestants have to run up a hill and get to the top. What makes it difficult is boulders are rolled down the hill. The conyestants can hide in gaps in the wall but the Emeral guard try and push you out. When the contestant gets hit it looks like it really hurts. One contestant made all the boulders get stuck because she was so fat. My Dad was in fits of laughter!

I remeber this show from the 80's, when I still lived in Japan! My buddies started calling me MXC when we were playing basketball and when I started punching them, they told me it was an popular Japanese game show on the cable. Still, I don't have cable, so I had no idea that MXC was the "Takeshi-Jyo(castle)" Are they really airing the current shows, and not airing the old episodes?

ive seen this on pay tv, Its sooo funny, lol. Most craziest show ever, the japanese must be soo bored, to come up with these ideas, but man are they funny
