Australia's most famous road rally event started today. The results aren't up yet but I was cruising the site having a look at different stuff when I came across this: Competitor List This year there's is a Ferrari F40 entering aswell as many other famous cars. There's also a whole bunch of GT-R N1s which is cool. Once again there's an abundance of Porsches and WRXs including one 2003 GT2. (I saw a road version today. Godamn they are some insane cars) Also a Mitsubishi Evo 6 TME (AKA Evo 6.5) which are pretty hard-to-find.
I might post some pics later.

Hopefully Speed Channel will cover this! One of my favorite road rallies due to the beauty of the surroundings and nice cars.

I'd love to do this event.

I put up a post of an old BMW 'Bavarian' sedan from the early '70s running an M5 straight six. If I pulled a big win in lotto I'd love to build something like this and run it in this event.

Mind you, I doubt I'd be in quite the hurry some of these boys are in.

One of Porsche GT3s or similar usually wins this. Great event, though.

Yeah - good luck with that. You might want to read up on the nature of the event and have a think about that.

Yep, Jim Richards is driving one. It's a GT2.
At the start of the race I thought it might be the wrong choice, however going into the final day running second, only 3 seconds behind the leader is awefully good, if not up to Jim's normal standard.
Having said that, with rain expected tomorrow (and the white's GTR seems to do well in the wet) the GT2 may be a handful.
I tell you what though, the WRX is the real surprise, leading on the penultimate day.

here are some photos

Just by looking at some of the pictures, I'm amazed with the variety of competitors that race this rally. I don't know much about targa rallies, but man... I'm impressed wonderfully by the variety, and even the racing.

kikkoman, some nice pics there, especially of the fron on pic of JM. What camera you got there? Digital?

That F40 (the best car ever made in recent times) is awesome. I would feel privilaged if it raced pass my house like that

Results (in order)
Sullens/Rabbet - 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA
White/White - 2001 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II N1
Quinn/Wenn - 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo (GT3)

Use proper grammer.
Use a dictionary - it's grammar - and Porsches are still dull, whatever the level of your language skills. Methinks thou art pedagogically challenged...

Tony Quinn and Keith Wenn have been promoted to second place with the disqualification of the Jason and John White Nissan GT-R. They were disqualified because of three minor issues. 1. Not having a steel mesh cover on the intercooler. 2. Using a non original strut brace. 3. Fitting an intercooler spray that was not standard.
They pleaded guilty to the mesh charge and not guilty to the others. John said that they had received advice that the intercooler spray was standard. He also said that they had convinced the eligibility panel that the strut brace was of the same specs as the original and offered no performance gains. Apparently the mesh was damaged while circuit racing and that they had forgotten about it when a new one didn't arrive in time for Targa Tas but they were told by pre race scrutineers that it wouldn't be a problem. They were disqualified from the event and banned from CAMS events for three months.
