Do you view using TCS, ABS, etc. as part 'cheating' or as part of your tune?

I am thinking of trying to do all courses with all of these off and tune my cars appropriately. I am assuming they are like 'easy mode', but I'm not sure.

not cheating but i consider it a different league kinda like modern warfares hardcore mode.. although i will not race with someone using tcs etc.

Hmm at the same time, I just tried it and I don't think there is a way to tune my 512BB '76 to be drivable at all without ABS on. I can just tap the brake in a staight line going 100 and it goes into an instant spin. If I turn ABS on 1 it doesnt spin at all even when braking while turning. I don't think I can fiure out how to brake without ABS on, at aleast not for this car...

**inb4 elitist answers.

It really all depends on the car/scenario for me. If I'm doing a champsionship I usually have TCS on 5. For my normal use I use 1-3. When I'm online and want to do doughnuts, I have it off. It all depends.

With ABS on every corner and car can trail brake and with TC you can just smash the accelerator in corner exit like on off button. I don't think these aids as cheating nor unrealistic but i get more enjoyment out of the game when i try to figure out how to control the car with just my two feet.

The most important thing about games is to have fun so everyone should just use what is fun for them. :)

Well since real cars in the real world have TCS and ABS, and every exotic sport cart made these days have full computers dedicated to the TCS system, and some of them are nearly undrivable without that computer running, well i fail to see how purists or elitist people consider it a cheat to run them.

TCS 1, which pretty much just gives you launch control, unless it is like the 599 or something is basically undrivable without a higher tcs setting. ABS 1 cause lets face it the DFGT's break pedal is so sensitive it is easy as heck to lock the wheels of a car up even touching the break pedal.

Nevermind that heavy settings slow cars down, for most aid systems, if a person knows the car they are driving and can drive it well without aids at all they should be faster in the vast majority of cases if cars are at all equal in performance.

Threshold breaking non abs allows a car to stop in shorter distances. TCS and other aids systems often use heavy modulation to keep the car stable hence you accelerate slower and so on.

If two people are driving the same car and one has heavy aids on and the other knows his car inside and out and has no aids on yes the aids off person should always be faster.

Prime example the NASCAR challenges and the car itself, has very heavy TCS running, turn ABS off and the car accelerates much faster.

There's nothing wrong with using assists. If you ask me, the real pros are the ones who know when to use assists and when not to. Trying to go "hardcore" and keep them all turned off is only going to affect your performance when you drive a car that was built with assists in mind and you end up struggling more than is necessary.

I think Skid Recovery is cheating... it's just too easy to drive a car with it on.

The other aids are okay with me, ABS at 1 for me always and TCS is always off for me.
ASM and TCS slows me down a lot and since I don't have a G25/G27 (with the load cell mod) ABS off is a bit of a pain.

Another question is what is your b-spec driver using?

Obviously, I want to tune my car the best I can for AI bob. I'd tune my car differantly depending on what the assist settings are.

For that matter, what do the a-spec ai drivers use? If that can even be defined.

Well i got one of the games where i have no b-spec options other than i get the option to swap tire types......so whatever the game has b-spec bob set to. I think he definately does not run anti skid though lol, since you can watch bob get the tail out on some cars or if bob is very tired :).

AI i would assume is just the AI, the AI has unnatural downforce and traction, but the AI is also usually just driving the pace the game has programmed for that particular AI. Most challenges and whatnot the AI is not very hard to defeat. Unless the game sticks you in a junk car with comfort tires.....

agreed.
Its very challenging, exciting, and (most of the time) rewarding to drive with almost all assists off (abs set at "1" for me).
I havent even used a controller yet, so I cant comment on how hard it is to drive without assists on the DS3.

All of these slow you down so if you want to "cheat" and go slower I don't see what the big deal is.

Exactly..

they don't necessarily slow you down...if you have a car that is impossible to get the power down to the ground, then a low TCS setting will help you accelerate out of corners...ABS certainly doesn't slow you down...

This...

and this.

Most newer sports cars have some sort of TCS. Know when to use it and when not to use it. I always laugh at these homers that start online lobbies with all the assists off and a 900hp limit. Their races are crash fests every time, but hey, they are "hardcore" right? :dunce::dunce:

This won't be a popular view but using the DS3 is in a way a type of cheating. I know not everyone can afford a wheel but when people switch after being good with the DS3, they struggle.
