is the gameplay with let's say a light 675hp TVR tuscan speed six is good enough to play without TCS-ASM was kinda hard in GT3 :/ I had to use a slight TCS-ASM to be able to drive this thing in GT3.
I'm powersliding in 4th gear :/ didn't tune the car that good I know...

I was just wondering if the left-right movements where better with a joypad in GT4 , in GT3 I found they were not precise enough to play with oversteering-monsters.

Since its a FR car, I would recommend setting your rears at 14 (for less understeer) and 3 or 4 (for oversteer). With this setting and others like brake assist will help you punch the turns faster than those that turn their ASM and TCS to off. I find sliding loses lap time. I can do Midfield Raceway in 57 secs with Minolta Stage 3 not 4 Turbo with ASM and TCS help but get 1 min to 1min 2 secs without them. I hope this helps. I love FR cars...more intense driving. :)

You Definitly always get a better lap time with driving aids off. If you know how to control
the car and give the throttle amount you will definitly pull better times with it off.
To me driving aids always hurt my lap times.

Get yourself a Toyota Minolta '88 GT Race Car and tell me with your settings, what time do you get without Stage 4 Turbo and NOS... I gotta see you handle that car with TCS and ASM off.

i seriously doubt there is NO traction control on built up high horsepower beasts in real life. they would be useless.
Wrong. Real race cars use no form of TCS. It was experimented with on some cars (I believe F1) but they went back to not using it. Also not used on drag cars.

F1 still uses them...just saw them talking about in Speed Channel. Australian GP.

When people say no TCS and ASM it’s because when they are off you have total control of the car and if you can drive without them you show your real abilities without the help of technology.
So what if you can make better times with them, you can’t have all the credits for this achievement if it wasn’t you’re talent as a great driver that made it happen.

Anyway, thats the way i think about it, but i'm not criticizing who use it, it's just my point of view. 👍

Well said...

My own settings in GT3 were TCS 0 and ASM 0 for almost all my cars, the only exceptions being very high powered RWD cars, such as the TVR Speed 12.

I personally find ASM to be a complete pain, turns almost any car into an understeering nightmare, just limits the cars potential.

TCS I may set to 1 on some cars (as I mentioned above) but just to get better traction of the start and out of low gear corners.

Got the same car (both stock and fully tuned), I run both with TCS and ASM at zero and actually find the faster car easier to drive. The adjusted susspension, gears and racing slicks mean the car handles better than stock and hadles the power better.

I sometimes wonder about how some people (and I don't mean FRST, I just picked that post as it has the same Tuscan as me) tune there cars. For me the old saying "Power is nothing without control" is kind of a motto, I rarely carry out full engine/turbo mods as most cars can't handle it and I get faster laps with less power.

However this is only with every other upgrade carried out first, you have got to be able to change every aspect of a cars setup to fully exploit high power.

Can't wait to try out GT4, I don't think my habits will change.

how is the wheelspin in this game? is it somewhat closer to real life?
ie. if you have the setting on 0 and you rev the crap out of the car in 1st, do the wheels just spin without the car moving? or do you slowly gain speed?

Not true, because I am watching the F1 right now and they were talking about adjusting how much TCS to use....But I personally don't like to use TCS or ASM.....unless absolutely necessary.

It's proportional to the power and weight of the car, a car with excess of power will take more time to build speed then a car with the power more proportional to it's weight, but none of them will stay in it's place (Burnouts) without the use of breaks.

Everybody's complaining about lack of TCS on garage cars in 2 player mode but, honestly, we are lucky to even HAVE garage cars available in 2 player mode! Just ask the poor guys with japanese copies......

You're right, but there isn't a single soul to play with me anyway!! So i don't care about it that much.

And maybe I’ll buy the Korean version.

ferrari cant use it

Well let's steer back onto the topic. I figured out how to switch off the driving aids during 2 player mode. Go to your home and then options and then 2 player. There you will see a drop down box which should be labeled driving aids or something of that nature. Select off.

i've been trying to drive my ~730hp benz e55 without any assits....but i can't keep the tires from spinning in like 4th gear.....any tips?

I know you don't like to use ASM and TCS, but try to set TCS to 1, just 1, it will help alot, especially with those monsters 700 HPs and up.

BTW, Camaro race car such a great car, it's very easy to handle, i really love it. 👍

Indeed, I remember in GT3, it was my personal fav.

And that's coming from a Ford/Mustang fanboy.

ferrari cant use it

Say what? Ferrari uses TC in F1 to very good effect. Believe you me, if TC (and stability control, both are used in F1) wasn't faster, F1 teams would not use it. The problem is that most people are used to the TC nannies in a chevy which are tuned for weather, not speed.

The Ferrari Enzo has a TC-race mode and a mode without any TC. The only driver who was able to put in a faster time with no TC than with the race-TC mode was Michael Schumacher himself. 99.9999999999% of people here are not Michael Schumacher. That is to say, that in real life almost everyone here would benefit from a race traction control set-up (and even Scumacher uses it in F1 with it's greater P/W ratios). Gran Turismo is a whole 'nother story of course, but the real life argument favours traction control.

Let me do it right now

Damn, I just went to buy it and it doesn't let me...I guess I gotta win that car.

Anyway, I've done races with the Audi r8 and I got a 5:56 or something with
it on the ring if that means anything to you. That's with all Driving Aids off.

I think i know how to turn it on, i just played with NO TCS with my friend (2 player).. so i found how to turn it on....

1) go pick any car (not from your garge) and set TCS ON and click okay, then change car to one of your garge, it's should have TCS on when you start game (still no option but when you start game, it should be on)

2) if still not work, go to option => 2 player => TCS on/off (i'm not sure if i'm right but when i get it back i'll check and post again)

What IS TCS and AMS, what do they stand for? What do they do? Is it necesary?

I never saw these before GT4, but I figured to leave em on since it was default. But now i'm getting more hardcore into the game and would to know everything single little detail so I know how to keep upping my performance.

TCS and AMS.. o.O grrr no idea what they do. Please help.

Dear lord you are all so wrong in so many ways.

1) The topics about problems with the traction control system being off. Not wanting it to be off. This really sucks because drag racing-as much as you may think it is stupid to do in gt4-is impossible. Turning at that is not even fun.

2) In no way is it realistic, Any fwd car with a lot of hp will spin, yes, but not in 5th gear, thats rediculous. My friend had a 380 whp srt4 and it would spin 1st and 2nd, and some of third gear, all of 3rd when it was cold, but 4th and 5th would call for stupid hp.

3) I just want traction back on so that 2 player mode will be fun again. If anyone figures it out post, and stop talking about cars none of you have been in or undertsand. On a side note: gt4 is not all that realistic to me, its really fun but there are lots of problems and they can all be found in fwd. Why cant fwd be like gt2 again that was the best to be able to launch a fwd car at 4,000 rpms and run 11's

Okay in 2 player mode my friend and I wanted to see who could drive a viper better, and the tires spun all the way to 6th gear. We were going freaking 60mph in 6th gear with a viper, transmission auto set to the widest setting.

IT works!!!

I did it!! TCM and ACM in 2plyr battle garage!

1st pick a arcade car with acm tcm on, then go back into your garage and pick ur car, repeat that step with 2nd plyr and it will work!!

ACM TCM in 2plyr battle!

Cool, I've yet to try it.

Thanks if it does work. :)

I was racing my Cerbera today, and spun for literally the entire track, up till 180 mph when i had so slow for some turns :grumpy:

With low powered cars such as Mazda Miatas and cars of that class...I like to have TSC and ASM OFF...
but for HIGH POWERED CARS i like to have TSC and ASM on (but not all the way) so my acceleration isnt KILLED :D
Truly, with a high powered car in !!GT4!!(im not talking real life here) it is better...
You just have to get real good
with no tsc and asm you skid and drift alot(unless you can control it but u still have some skidding involed) and that is slower
whats faster
a skidding and drifting and skyline getting a somewhat good line and deliberatly FLYing through it OR...
a skyline Taking a turn nice and solid with a nice APEX and a good aceeleration out of the turn...
certainly the drifting looks better
but not in the case of a fast lap attempt
ASM and TCS or actually good in some cases
no one can say TCS and ASM sucks b/c everyone has it on SOME cars and they have it for a reason too

...And still real pros can go faster without tcs even here...

Hardcores run without TCS as a badge of honor. To some its like using a cheat code.

Fine. Good for them. GT4 is too easy as it is, and anything that makes it more of a challenge is a plus. My hat's off to them.

Just don't try to tell us that you can always, invariably, uniformly go faster without TCS than with it. That is simply not true, especially on overpowered cars. And let's not get started on the effect of TCS on rear tire life.

Let's get real here, people.
