when i first started the game, i turned off the Stability & Traction Control Systems. (crampin' my style) but, the little ASM & TCS lights keep on blinking whenver i start spinning. i checked the options, and, even after the lights come on during a race, the devices are stilll turned off. what gives?? are they coming on while i'm driving like they appear to be, or did PD just screw up again?

*i can't feel any difference in traction when the lights flash, but it could just be that i've inadvertantly gotten used to them.

I have them off, too, in the options settings. This works in Arcade mode. But in Sim mode, I have to go to the settings of each car and take the levels down to zero. Then they'll be off.

Might have to try that. Also, the ASM and TCS lights shouldn't be on at all in the tach when you have them off. (With them on, they lights are on and, when functioning, start to blink).

I have been adjusting them per car in Sim mode. i did turn of ASm a while ago in the options, but it still blinks while adjusted to anything other than Zero. For quite some time I ran with TCs set at 1 or 2.

Recently made a run at OLR and found that I really need to run TCS at Zero to make the best time.

GT Hero 79, As a test, run 10 laps around Grand valley, then drop the TCS to 1 or 2, and ASM to Zero for another ten laps. THen take a look at the difference.

I'd be willing to say you drop 2-3 seconds off a good lap.

i never thought anything about it, i'll try that here in a bit my bros playing on my system right now (medal of honor) but i'll post my results

TCS is a traction control system. What it does is limit the amount of HP transfered to your wheels. It bascially eliminates wheel spin. So there will be no "Chirping" the tires in second gear. It can drastically defeat your acceleration times.

ASM is Automatic Stability Management. It controls the forward directio nof your car. BY using the brakes, it keeps your car from spinning. If you have this set too high, it affects the ability of your car to corner, there by decreasing your speed. So you come out of the corner much slower than you could.

When you Jam the throttle down without TCS on, you get severe wheel spin, throwing your car around. By easing on the throttle, you can come out of the corner much quicker and smoother. This is where the subtety of PD's programming comes into play. When you first turn ASM off, you'll have trouble cornering. Way more power oversteer. All of a sudden, Your 1000hp viper like donuts.

I'd be willing to bet that a 600hp with no ASM or TCS in the hands of a good driver, can beat a 1000hp viper with High ASM or TCS in the hands of another driver.

The next step from there is playing with the suspension and LSD to enhance cornering.

GT Hero 79. Please post up your times. I'd be interested to see. Also add an explanation of how the car ran. FOr instance, "when I dropped off the ASM;TCS, I had a miserable time with the car spinning, when I came out of the hairpin. I attribute this too..."

i tried it with the settings on TCS to 0.
lots of low-end now, my CLK touring car (subject) chirps all the way into 3rd gear. i'm dropping a second or two off of Deep Forest Raceway with it. although, i spun out on the first corner for the first 3 laps.

Yea I find you can gain time with the aids off :clock:

Problem is if you do make a mistake you lose a lot of time where driving aids would have saved you? :spin:

ok guys i have tryed it now on laguna seca and i was reallly far ahead and went off the road and once off the road i was spinning for what seemed like days i feel likei was going faster i was using an acura nsx at 350hp

Not to be stupid or anything, but what's OLR?

OLR = On-Line Racing.

Which is a bit of a misnomer because it's not head-to-head racing. It's a laptime comparison, often with replays submitted via sharkport as backup.

In the machine test, 400m, without TCS on the Polyphony, I get in the vacinity of 8.9 seconds, with TCS on standard settings, I get 8.6 seconds. So I guess in straight line acceleration it helps..?

Oh yea it definately does when moving off the line if you give it full throttle allen :burnout:

But with TCS off I find you can control the wheelspin with careful use of X? :spin: And then go on to achieve a better Lap Time :clock: probably due to the power going down on the exit :exitonly: of a corner? :chkflag:

And of Course it's nice to do this sometimes :lol:

Viperfreak: You can improve your lap times significantly. It also has a twofold effecet in that it forces you to drive better. Less forgiveness to rookie mistakes.

And yes, Neon_duke and Mr. Holland do have it correct.

OLR= on-line racing.

Disabling TCM & ASM not only improves your lap times, it also makes the game 1000 times more FUN and CHALLENGING!!

It´s the first thing I do when I win/buy a car...

Just try it and you´ll see!

You´ll have a lot more control over your car when cornering, and if you play well, you´ll see it´s much more efficient!

God, you can´t even drift with those things on.... :thatsodd:
